Manly Dam as of the 10th Feb

Anyone seen the Dam today? Keen for a ride, but don't want to push things if there is still a lot of run-off. There's been a couple of nice, sunny, warm days but I'm afraid it may still need a bit longer to dry out.

Questions re RealBike Insurance MTB Cruise

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Quick history, bought a bike last October, been getting around Manly Dam since November (when it's not bl00dy raining!) and thought I'd enter a comp of sorts. Let's not call my Manly Dam laps pretty, let's just say it's a great improvement on when I started going around.

Anyone able to attend council meeting tomorrow?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

If you take a look at the council agenda for tomorrow...

http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/council_then/War...

... you'll see that 12.2 is a motion to 'Reinstatement of Manly Dam Mountain Bike Track Volunteer Days'.

This is a great move, but... there are rumours circulating that something bad regarding the dam is going to be discussed.

I know this will be boring as watching paint dry, but if anyone local is able to attend this meeting and report back it would be much appreciated.

MTB Slick tyres

With all the rain was hanging for a ride so went to Centennial Park. I had my Nevegals on at off road pressure and got hosed by some roadies. This won't do. I managed an avg speed of 27.4kp/h over 5 laps - Roadies can get around at 35 kp/h I understand from websites but want to know has anyone got MTB Slick tyres and will it make a noticable difference to speed/rolling resistance for the price. Was thinking of going back with small block 8's I have and jack them up to 80psi and see if I can catch a Cervello or two.
Continental has a few slicks out anyone tried em - what width tyre is best?

Planning for a bike park in Ku-ring-gai

Proposed areas for MTB park in Ku-ring-gai Council area - Feb 2010

Got this from the council and thought that by posting it here we could get some additional feedback to the council.

Hi all
Council currently has an opportunity to obtain a professional concept design for a off road bike playground.- ( BMX/Mountain Bike)
The most suitable area council has identified is off the end of Golden Jubilee Oval, Esk Street Wahroonga and the old quarry at the end of Clissold Road Wahroonga, both at the bushland edge....

...

If you would like to share you knowledge on community needs, please get back to me prior to me engaging the planners who would create Ku-ring-gai's off road cycling playground concept.

I'd be happy for a phone chat or reply in email.

Mary-Lou Lewis

Pivot versus Yeti

I cant go riding due to rain, so I am considering next bike purchase. I like the look of Pivot Mach 5 or Yeti 575. Now just pretending I had $7k in my pocket. What do people think between these 2 or are there other options I should be looking at. Probably XT build is sufficient.

Drivetrain

Hi being fairly new to MTB (bought my bike 15 weeks ago) i am wondering about how long things like chains, casettes, frount sprokets ect. should last? I don't ride in the mud, keep my bike cleanish, and lube the chain every 20-30 km's . Are there any other areas I should pay special attention to?
thanks

hatch back bike racks

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 hatch on which I would like to use a rear tailgate mounted bike rack (don’t want to do the tow bar option and prefer to steer away from the cost of a roof set up).

The main problem is the silly little spoiler at the top of the door. There are no racks yet designed to properly accommodate this however I have seen a couple of similar situations (Golf, Subaru) where a rack has the straps running over the spoiler.

Oaks Trail Status?

Got a ride down The Oaks booked with a few mates for Sunday. Does anyone have an update on the state of the trail with all the rain the last few days?

Rain's supposed to clear substantially overnight Saturday evening, but I read just a few minutes ago there has been land slippage interrupting Blue Mountains train services, including one at Woodford. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/02/04/28...

This'll be my first time on Oaks - but I'd rather it not be on a wet slippy trail. Any current information would be welcome.

fitting tight tyres

Trying to fit a new Schwalbe Nobby Nic Tubeless tyre onto a Bontrager Race Lite tubeless rim and I can get one sideof the tyre on but the bead on the other side is impossible to get over the rim. I tried soapy water and plastic tyre levers with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

McPhails + Meryla Pass Group Ride - Feb 28th?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm looking at doing another McPhail's downhill + Meryla Pass ride soon,
and I thought I'd see if there was interest in doing it as a group ride.

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=...

I recall that few guys on here mentioned being keen to do this one, so it's
just a matter of finding a good date that works for everyone.

Based on the previous thread, the popular choice was to park at the bottom
and do the Meryla Pass ascent first, then ride back down McPhails.

The rough plan would be meet in the Valley at 8am (this would mean leave

Tyres - For Wet/Muddy Conditions.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Everyone!

I fairly new to Mountain Biking and this is my first post here on these forums!

Apologies if i have missed a post on this topic, i had a look around, and some helpful topics but nothing regarding wet/muddy coniditions and tyres

I've been riding since about September last year, I am currently using a CrossMark 2.1 on the Rear, and a Rendez 2.1 on the Front. These have done very well over the last month or so since i put them on the bike. The set that is sitting ont he sidelines now are Specialized - The Captains 2.0/2.2 which came with my bike.

[Hornsby Area] Please "Bang the Table"!

Please "Bang the Table" and comment and/or vote on some of the pro mountain bike comments:

www.bangthetable.com/oldmansvalleyhornsby

We want MTB incorporated more within the design. We need a MTB link to go from Hornsby, down to the Fire Trails in the valley. This is THE (almost only) ideal location to get out of the valley and up to the Hornsby Plateau.

It doesn't matter where you live, you may like to visit one day and ride the trails once we secure them.

All support appreciated.

Thank you!
