New to NoBMob

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Guys, I am new to NoBMob and wanted to introduce myslef. Originally from France I picked up MTB a couple of years ago in the US before moving to Sydney last year. I ride in Lane Cove, Terry Hill, Blue mountain and GNR area. I am mostly interested in XC riding, 20 to 50 Km in lenght. I recently spent 10 days in the Snowy with my wife and discovered many exiciting MTB trails there. My wife is also a keen rider. Couple of questions:

1/ Can I put my name for any of the ride in the calendar even though I do not know any of the riders?

Basically make sure you join the NOBMOB group and then you can compete against each other to see who score the most baskets for maximum meters.

You can change your name and where your from etc under Edit Player.

I am Crouchy on this. Best score I have seen is 181.

See what you can get.

MX Rider at Oxford Falls 09/01/2010

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just got a call from Blondie telling me that as she was driving to work this morning she passed a bloke who had unloaded an unregistered moto off his ute and was preparing to ride. This was at the bottom of the Oxford Falls DH runs.
there is absolutely NOWHERE to legally ride a moto there, let alone an unregistered moto.

I am posting here as I am not sure what actually should be done...

It's not NP as far as I know?? and the fuzz seem not to act on this quickly enough...

Hey all,

Who has tried this with their Garmin? Am using GarminConnect at the moment which I'm finding OK, but lacking in many respects. A lot less features than the now extinct MotionBased....

What do you guys reckon? or hold out till GC catches up to what MB had?

Just having a browse now.. seems cool...

North Turramurra Mapped

Firetrail thins to sniggle

Thanks to a local tour by Lach last week we've just finished mapping out trails around North Turramurra.

Overlooked for a long time, this area is actually pretty large and goes into number three spot in the Northern Beaches - areas by trail distance. Sadly the vast majority of this is firetrail of the out and back variety but it has some small pockets of single track (yes, outside of NPWS managed lands!) that add a little interest. It's a good destination for training though - some rather brutal climbs in there!

Apparently this has been made possible by some new firetrail created recently by the local council, so if steep hills are your thing, go check it out.

Buying a bike - interest free

Ok - got the nod for a new bike but the catch is it has to be on interest free credit as I don't have the cash hanging around. Anyone know of a LBS bike shop that do interest free? GE would be ideal as I already have the card with plenty of credit on it. Bit limited as I was looking for a Giant Trance or Reign but could be swayed to another brand.

New York Times article about Danny MacAskill

We've seen the videos but here's an article that talks about Danny's amazing rise to fame:

Didn't even realise Danny had his own site either:

Melbourne - worth taking your bike

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just got back from a couple of weeks in Melbourne. I took my bike down because I was driving and had plently of room and thought I would try out a few of the local trails. Riders in Melbourne are pretty lucky with so much legal single track close by in State / Regional Parks. Here are some of the trails I rode:

Lysterfield Park - about 40 minutes South East of the CBD. This consists of around 20kms of extremely well maintained singletrack that was well signposted. There is even a Trailmix bike store located there with bike hire, information, coffee, maps and clinics.

Ourimbah (or Appin) Sunday 17th

I'll be free of oversees guests soon so looking to go a bit further afield than the Dam, anybody fancy Ourimbah on the 17th, thinking around 9am? I see I just missed an Appin ride which is a shame.

Ourimbah early Wednesday

I am thinking about going up to Ourimbah early Wednesday (be there by ~6:30am) morning for my 1st ride up there. Happy for others to show interest or provide tips as it looks a little confusing for a 1st timer. If there is interest I will post. Hopefully weather starts improving. Where is this sun that keeps getting advertised?

Hong Kong

Hi,
I'm heading to HK for a few months but not taking my bike due mainly to storing it in a small apartment.
Has anyone been riding over there or know of a good place to hire a bike or if there is any good trails?

Cheers

Jamis trail X3 upgrade

Hi all
Curious to see what you think is the better more cost effective solution to a better ride. Currently have a Jamis trail X3 2009 which cannot currently handle the type of riding I would like to do eg. drops, small jumps etc standard trail riding / tech. so I am considering upgrading some of the components to make it a better ride or should I just get a new XC bike ? any feedback of your thoughts and recommendations of parts to upgrade or quality XC bikes that ride well and are durable would be great.

thanks
Matt

Wildflower Garden ride???

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Happy New Year
Fellow nobmober's.....I was riding the management trail (east) around the back of the St Ives showground followed by a shortest descent to creek below, but was stopped in my tracks by what I think is the gates to the wildflower garden..... Question? How does one link up this trail with the other side (west to phillip st etc....). I did not attempt to trespass through these gates, however i did come across a single track to the right some 50m before these gates. This track is super steep, only Danny Macskill would ride down it. Is this the only trail around these gates????

Crankbrothers Joplin

I have issues using a QR seat clamp as I find I constantly am hitting my inside right knee on the release. Therefor I'm looking at getting a crankbrothers joplin remote seat post. I am just after any feedback from people who have used these before mainly regarding 2 things;

1. Do they rattle a lot as I don't like rattle noises coming from my bike

2. Does anyone use these with a saddle bag or would it be too heavy

Cheers
Brian
