total fire ban

Garigal has "Total fire ban- no access" signs up at the Wyatt Ave entry at the start of the Heath/Bare Creek track at Belrose. There is nothing about it on the DECC website. I was a bit pissed off but turned back. Is this NPWS's usual trick of putting up a sign and leaving it there for weeks on end way after the event ?

Non-shimano crankset

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

i've been getting by on some raceface evolve cranks on a Hope BB, but the middle chainring is rather shagged, and is misbehaving and skipping on certain chain lines and the inner ring is not far behind. Instead of buying new rings i am thinking i'll upgrade the crankset, but would keep the Hope bb.

To date, i've been running non-shimano for the sake of running non-shimano but it seems with cranksets they simply have the best product (XT or SLX) - steel/carbon middle rings and the pinch bolt setup to avoid excess loading of the bearings.

Wednesday morning ride?

Anyone game for another Wednesday morning outing this week? That's on the 2nd I'm talking about.

Thinking an 8:30 start. Possibly a variation on Sunday's ride but starting from Wyatt Ave.

ok, 3 months ago we ness and i did our 1st lap of the dam in just over 1hr 20. we have since bought giant trance x2's (sweet rides) and started riding pretty regularly. i timed a lap last week and mangaged a lung busting leg burning 38min 45sec and was pretty chuffed, ness then did a 40min on the dot. both pretty happy, and riding improving every ride.

MTB Insurance

Hey does anyone know of an insurance company that does mountain bikes.
I've just got a new second hand bike and I thought it might be a good idea to insure it?
Is it preferable to place it under household contents- specified or get 'niched' insurance?
Does anyone have any ideas or tips or experience?
Thanks

Road site out in the open

As some of you will know, there are a number of riders in our midst that enjoy riding on the road. A while back we created the tongue-in-cheek named 'scummers' group to cater for these people but this was little known and hard to find if you didn't know about it.

Enter road.nobmob.com. This is a public site for all the road related content and as such should be easier to find. On the plus side for some poor misguided souls who only like to ride on the road, use of this site only shows road related stuff in much the same way use of nobmob.com only shows MTB related stuff.

That is... unless one edits their profile and selects to see content from one place when actually using another. Eg. if you select to always see content from road.nobmob.com you don't actually ever have to login there to see what's going on - that content will show up for you on nobmob.com. This is akin the the way the 'scummers' group worked and I've set that option for everyone in that group so you really shouldn't see any difference at all.

So... long story short... loads of work for apparently no change. I'm sure there was a good reason for doing this though... watch this space Eye-wink

Mont 24 Hour - Race Video

Hi Gang,

In case you are new to the Mont 24 Hour track at Sparrow Hill - I have just uploaded a video to YouTube and also to Videotime.com.au (for download). This will give you an idea of what to expect with the track.

I do this for the love of it - and in the hope that maybe you will give me a 5 star rating! Smiling

What a Tyre

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

What a remarkable tyre, recently I got a pair of Continental Explorer and was impressed by the weight or lack of it tipping in at just a tad under 500g, traction on the climbs and comfort of these tyre are great, while not the greatest on hard wet clay they suit other condition and my riding style.

Wanted to Buy: Dual Suspension bike in small to medium size, good condition

Looking for a quality second hand bike for my growing eldest son (12 y.o.) , height 160 cm (now) 170 cm (soon)

He's worn out his old Spesh FSR and I'm looking for something that he can use for the next 2 years (he's keen to compete in XC juniors races)

- Suitable for XC rather than AM (i.e. 3 - 5 inch travel)
- considering Epic, Trance, ASR, Stumpy or similar
- must be small or medium frame
- will consider frames / partial builts / components.

donating your old bikes

we are needing to make some room in our garage so it's time to get rid of some of the old bikes (don't worry the good ones live inside the house). So i've been looking for some groups/charities to donate the bikes to, so far i have found the following website that lists a few organisations and i'll contact a few of them tomorrow ( i already emailed one of them a little while back but have had no response)

http://www.bicyclerecycling.com/15.html

has anyone else donated their old bikes to a charity etc? if so which ones?
