Do as I say, not as I do.....

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Thought I'd post this up for any neewbs or those starting their own maintenance. A few weeks ago I decided to strip the bike down and give it full service, remove linkages, check bearings, clean bottom bracket, grease pedal ports, etc etc.

Anyway, has some problems getting my pedals off my XTR cranks, so in my infinite wisdom combined with a tremendous lack of foresight, I place the shaft in a vice (wrapped in a towel) to get some more leverage. For some reason it was the only part I could place in the vice to get to the pedal axle (was the drive side arm I was dealing with)

Posting Claissifid Adds

Just wondering how long does it generally take of a classified to be posted on the sit after it has been submitted? I did one last night and am not sure if I made a mistake and that's why it hasn't appeared or if it just takes time to be posted.

I need a new wheel

I just don't know where I put my wheel! Like, I had it in my car along with my bike but when I went to get it out, it was not there!

I was wondering if anyone might like to give me a wheel they have lying around? It was a quick release wheel with Alex rims on my olde chunky Cell Bikes bike. I have a spare brake rotor.

Initial Out-of-the-box service

I just recieved my brand spanking new Scott Scale in the mail yesterday, and I am in the process of putting it all together.

Can I do all this myself? Or is it smarter for me to just shell out the cash and put it in to a bike shop?

All that needs to be done is the front calipers to be attatched to the Fork, brakes adjusted (they seem very weak, would they need to be bled/reserviced after sitting in a box for so long?), and maybe the gearing/derailleurs adjusted if they need it?

I am not mechanically retarded, but would prefer to do it right for my expensive toy.

Glenrock Recreational Area - Newcastle

Great work Rob for adding Glenrock to the trail database.

For those of you who haven't been up there (Newcastle) before, Glenrock has some great XC single track to check out. Lots of fun, some technical stuff, but all very manageable.

A great day trip from Sydney or the coast - and close to the beach / town if you feel like a surf / swim / beer afterwards.

Wildflower to Terry Hills via rylands - perimiter trails

Hi just wondering if anyone could give me some info on this ride. It looks possible from looking at the maps page but is it an easy ride to get lost on? [eg. spending all day back tracking from dead ends] Also if possible, which direction Terry Hills - StIves or vice versa? I'm riding Rylands, Wildflowers next weekend weather permitting so will get a bit of a look at that end, then thinking about a big loop on the 6th or 13th. If this loop can be done how many km's? cheers.

Better Image Navigation

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Had a bit of time to kill just now and have made some improvements to image navigation.

Basically, added some right/left arrows and AJAXified them so one can scroll through the thumbs before selecting one to view in more detail. It works with or without Javascript (fallback to usual page loading), but really... what are you doing running a browser without it? Sticking out tongue

Also squashed the header a bit when viewing images... saves screen real estate.

You'll need the new CSS or this won't look very pretty - do a hard refresh (control-R usually).

Total Fire Ban Confirmed

Total Fireban / trail closure at NP's (20/11/09)

Heads up... this just came in from a local ranger:

Please note that there is a Total Fire Ban predicted for this weekend (21 – 22 Nov) this will lead to closure of all fire trails and tracks within the Sydney basin parks.

Here’s the Rural Fire Service website link to check Friday night if the ban will in fact be placed http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?cat_id...

Keep safe.

Update: Confirmed for Friday 20th. See image.

There are some rides planned on the Oaks this weekend, but looking at the above and given the forecast temperature and winds it might be wise to postpone. Or at least double check conditions before setting off.

I don't know if this is a one off thing for this weekend, or a policy set in stone. It would seem wise to stay out of larger and more remote parks when the fire danger is extreme, but out of every park in the Sydney basin seems a bit excessive. Will update with more news as it comes in.

Trail Status of Canberra Trails

Hey,

I am going on a trip to Canberra on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of December (a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), and I am worried that they may be doing trail maintainance during the week (instead of on busy weekends..).

Is there anyone I can call or a website I can check to look for scheduled maintainance?

Hot Lap Vanessa Style - for anyone who's interested!

Doing a quick ride in the morning leaving 9.30am before it gets too hot from Narrabeen. Park at the old entrance to Narrabeen Fitness Camp. Be ready to ride. If coming from Cromer Connection meet at The Sand Pit around 9.45-10AM. My mobile is 0414 430 220.
If you can't make it I'll probably do another ride late Sunday afternoon.

CRAMPS !!!

After I finish my rides I usually stretch my legs then after I get home & relax I start cramping in the hamstring . Does anybody else experience this ? Is there something I should be taking its as simple as pushing the feet rest back in on my recliner or sitting down on the floor then getting up ??

Is Red Hill off limits now to MTB's also or just moto's?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just heard today that a few moto's were fined $2200 each after they were caught riding in the Red Hill area. Apparently they were coralled by a helicopter and a couple of guys on Moto's before they were caught. Is this for real? Has anyone else heard this or am I being had?!? I always thought Red Hill was crown land. Look forward to the feedback Smiling

Morals....

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I just recently ordered a Scott Scale 20 from overseas, because I do not think I could afford a nice carbon full suspension for my 100km/24hour/enduro events... and I thought I would just have to live with a hardtail for those events.

Anyway, the package arrived from Canada (bought from an EBAY store), and I opened it up to find not a Scale 20, but a SPARK 20....... So now I have a full carbon race ready enduro xc machine sitting still in plastic on my floor at home.

What to do? Should I send it back to Canada and play the morally correct customer?
