Garmin Edge 705
I'm looking at purchasing a GPS system in the near future and the Garmin Edge 705 seems to be an ideal solution from :
http://www.ryda.com.au/ProductDetails.asp?Produc...
Can anyone let me know what comes with the unit in terms of maps or how I would get the maps / routes on there e.g. Manly Dam to record my times etc ?
Is it worthwile getting the cadence component as well ?? and does the unit work fine if it's in my camelbak or does it need to be mounted ideally ??
rough edit of Skinnys stack
Ok it's a very rough edit but the skinny was hell keen to check out his stack and the boys want a quick look at the road gap

NPWS Camera's about
I have seen a few signs around Garigal & Bantry Bay stating "cameras in use". I thought they might be a scare tactic but I actually stumbled on a camera today at Cascades on the main track. They are green camouflaged boxes. So beware if you are venturing into a closed off section (which you shouldn’t be doing anyway).
SMH article relating to cycling
Keep an eye out for an article in tomorrow's SMH summer section.
The snippet suggests quite a story and creates some suspense. May be nothing but looks like it might be a riders v's walkers/residents debate.
The picture assigned to the snippet has an MTB rider with a Bike Addiction jersey....
Wonder what this story might be about and whether we will see any of our reps interviewed?
My guess, something about Manly Dam.

Caffelatex
Anyone got any experience with the Caffelatex sealant? Looks good in theory, of interest it says
"no ammonia and is 100% tire and rim friendly"
which should put an end to some of the de-laminating issues people have been having too.
Looking at it simply from an economic view it looks good too, USD $29.99 for 1000ml and they suggest you use 50ml per 2.10 MTB tyre
Schwalbe Direction advice
Hope you all had a great XMAS and are looking forward to 2010 (i just can't wait to see the end of 2009).
% of HR on Garman 705
OK, So I have this Garman Edge 705 and I can't work out how to get it to display HR as a percentage. I usually display in training zone but percentage is useful as well. I'm in IT, it can't be THAT hard!
Can anyone help?

Everyone out there in the mountain biking community have a safe & Merry Christmas to all , see you in the New Year !!!
Malabar Headland
The guys over at Rotorburn have been talking about a network of singletrack out on the Malabar Headland south of Maroubra.
I sussed out this morning and it's pretty good for something so close to the city.
Here's the map.
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=...
The terrain is a mixture of tight technical singletrack, and Moab style bare rock with lots of technical features.
This definitely provides another local option and is potentially another Manly Dam with good management.
Time off over xmas
I've got some time off over Christmas; I've only ever really ridden manly dam, red hill and Ourimbah. What trails should I try out close to home that is decent? single track or technical preferred.

Beginner's ride advice
I want to take my 11 year-old son on a mountain bike ride in the Sydney or Blue Mountains area. What would be the best route for a beginner?
Blue Mountains - Fire Ban?
G'day - My apologies for what may be a n00b question.
I've recently made it over here from Canada. I was hoping to ride the oaks and andersons, and I'm getting a little confused by the fire ban policy. The DECCW website is listing a major fire in the Blue Mtns Park, with a few closed or affected areas. Does this mean that the oaks and andersons trails are closed to riding as well?
I've been keeping an eye here:

Cheers.

In line with the advocacy work that a number of local riders have undertaken with the Blue Mountains City Council (BMCC) at Old Bathurst Road (OBR) and Nichols Pde [Here]. The Bushland Management area of BMCC is in the process of drafting submissions to council to recommend for or against continued access to OBR and Nichols.
The Nichols pde site has been targeted for closure with BMCC reps’ views of OBR being more positive, but still unsecured.
Revolution takes on Twilight
hey all. Just got off the phone to JT from Revolution magazine.
He's just heard about our twilight series and was so taken with the concept hes bringing up some photographers with the goal of running a story in the next mag. He want it to focus on grass roots, characters and up and coming riders. All the things that make the sport
Anyway at this stage they are going to aim to get out here for the round on the 19th of January so we need a big roll up to show how popular it is.
Bike rage - hawkeye hit by car
Hi guys. Just letting you know I'm off the bike for at least 6 weeks after being deliberately sideswiped in a hit and run on Warringah Rd nr Forest Way westbound @ ~6:50am Monday. Just got back from RNSH this morning, and am sporting a Ti plate and screws in my hand and have major road rash on my elbow, shoulder and hip.
The good news is he was caught by an off-duty copper who witnessed the whole thing. I haven't yet caught up with the Police as the ambos whisked me off to the trauma unit.
Just be careful, guys. They're out there.
Survivin Thredbo ...
Hittin Thredders for the holidays and am absolutely shittin myself n petrified about my rig and skill level...
Saw some tubes and it looks pretty hectic.
Far from being a DH rider, I would say we're XC intermediate riders at best.
Will we survive on XC rigs with 5 inches of travel?? Or are we better off rentin out the leadweights?
Is there flowy downhill rides to do?
Also we're thinking about hitting up Sparrow Hill on the way through.
Anything else worth the look that is within our route??
MTB training course
I had a quick search but the terms Training and Course are too generic.
Can anyone recomend a training group or company that do skills days? I have been riding for about 18 months but want to do a skills workshop to improve my technique and give me some pointers.
Empire AP-1
Slow day. thought i'd post some pr0n.
how about a sand-cast DH frame with no tubing? (save the seatpost/handlebar/headtube/BB/pivot/yougetthepoint)

been out since 2007, but still yet to gain momentum i think. Interesting concept of building a dh bike primarily to increase sprung/unsprung weight ratio.
Brisbane
do you know of any mtb rides in brisvegas ...
i found this site but don't know which trails are nearby (ashgrove / dorrington), flowing, without motorbikes / 4wds etc ... http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/brisbane-trails ... something like the oaks would be absolutely perfect ...
i'm driving to brisvegas this saturday for 3 weeks with my anthem and two yukon xmas presents for best friend and her daughter ... both girls are extremely fit / healthy but neither have ever ridden any kind of bike (on road or dirt) before ...
