Cyclists ...be counted - it counts!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

From Bike North:....looking for volunteers to count cyclist for Super Tuesday

Dear everyone

As you may be aware 'Super Tuesday' was started in Victoria to try to obtain hard data on the number of people cycling past selected locations on a single day of the year. In 2009, it was attempted in Sydney and the City of Sydney was the key participator.

Melbourne hire

Does anyone know anywhere specific in Melbourne where I can hire a decent rig to try out a few of the tracks mentioned in this thread: http://nobmob.com/node/12158

Also any tracks worthwhile within reasonable driving distance of the CBD?

Max HR

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

There's been a lot of talk on the forums about the lower end of one's HR. I just wanted to ask something about the other end of the scale....the maximum HR.

On the ride this morning into work I was surprised to see that my HR monitor told me that the max HR for the ride was 203bpm. That seems high if one uses that old 220-age formula (I'm 28). I don't think it is an error either as I have seen it in the 190's before. The average HR for the ride was 158bpm for the 1hr 12min ride. I find my resting HR is usually in the mid 50's.

Anyone tried the generic brakepads from T7?

I'm up for some new pads in the Juicy brakes - looks like $40 an end is the going rate. This is pretty ridiculous, so I've ordered some of the aftermarket "Alligator" branded pads off T7, for about a third of the price.

Has anyone used these and got feedback?

Cowan track closed

Did Perimeter and Long yesterday and checked Cowan. The signs at the head of the trail clearly state that it is for walkers only. I took some photos but I don't know how to load them onto the site. Any ideas from anyone?

Selling Frame - Worth a freshen up?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey All,

My current frame (Heckler) is too small for me. I need to get a larger one so this one has to go....Unfortunately I can’t shell out and buy another one without selling this one first.

Being an ’04 model it has its fair share of scrapes and cable rub marks however the frame is sound and has no cracks or dents. I will replace the pivot bearings and include my DHX5 Coil shock and DT Swiss air shock in the sale.

Newbie going Clipless - SPD with platform or not ?

Hi All,

Thought I would try using SPD pedals rather than platforms (have too many scars due to slipoffs etc) and wondered whether I should go for SPDs with cage/platform or not ? Havent used clipless before.

Mainly ride Manly Dam.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Doug

Andos condition for long ride

Hi Team

Has anyone seen or ridden Andos in the last week or two. I know there was tree clearing but I'm hoping it will be open again for an Oaks and Andos up and down epic this weekend. Someone posted that the trail was totally cut up and soft. Any ideas if it will be rideable or worth the effort?

Thanks
Sly

Increasing Tyre Size - Geax Saguaro TNT

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

It would be great to get some opinions on increasing tyre size - i currently use a Geax Saguaro TNT 2.0 on the rear and have been generally happy with the overall grip, wear etc - that being said this is in comparison to a crossmark 2.1. I use a Nevegal UST 2.1 on the front.

General blurb about the tyre is:
• Arrojo's natural evolution: same polyvalency and low rolling resistance. A tyre that nicely falls in between the Mezcal (dry, compact) and the Barro Mountain (wet, loose).
• Low rolling resistance thanks to the central uninterrupted knobs that enhance speed on compact ground;

Sunday 31/01

Hi,I need to get a few ks on the legs pre Husky. Thinking of a lap around Narrabeen Lake via Red Hill and Terry Hills. A similar ride last week was 48 ks and took me just over 3 hrs. Depending on the forecast thinking of a 06:30 start or if it's not going to be too hot 14:30. Any one keen?

Lost my nerve

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm a newbie - very green to all this but had been enjoying it immensely. Before Christmas I came off and landed on my head going quite quick(for me) down one of the hills on the Terry Hills trail. I got a bit banged up, broke a finger and had a lump the size of an egg next to my eye. The subsequent black eye at work created quite a few comments as well! (the finger is still very sore).

Struggling with the dam step up

No, not the multiple step ups but the one just around the corner after the boardwalk; i.e.

http://nobmob.com/node/212

I used to ride up this more often than not but seem to rarely do it nowadays. Is it just me or is everybody else struggling with this too? It certainly looks like erosion has taken its toll on this part of the dam and has made it that much harder especially as you seem to lose grip on the rear tyre. Perhaps the crossmarks are no longer up to the job.

Ranger response to manly Dam feedback

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

It seems like Council has to some extent taken on board the feedback we've given them regarding recent "improvements" to Manly Dam trail.

I rode the descent to the Hydraulics Lab on Saturday for the first time since my OTB last March ( Laughing out loud ), and noticed some changes since I walked it about a month or two ago.

1: The section of trail near Allambie Heights Public School that runs into 19th Hole appears to have had two of the awkwardly spaced logs we complained about removed, and I had no trouble negotiating it.
