NEWBY'S

My family of four , 2 adults, 16 and 13 year old, would like to start mountain biking. We are not sure what bikes to buy as beginners. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tyres

Hi, I am riding the Huski 50 and Dirtworks 100 and was wondering about tyre choice. I am running Kenda nevegal 2.35s at the moment but thinking about 1.95s or 2.0s. Would i notice the difference? eg. rolling weight and grip. i will be using tubes. Does tyre size affect the chance of pinch flats? Is there anything i should look for in particular when making a choice for an enduro tyre?
Thanks
Trev

Manly Dam Sunday 24th Jan 5-8 hours...

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi everyone. as you well know today (sat) was too hot to get any significant hours up without major side effects (like dying or turning into dust) so i plan to get over to the dam tomorrow ( sun) and have a day on the mtb.
This is not a ride meeting but instead is an informal invitation to all those who will be out there and feel like
A- saying hi as you go flying past me
or B- ride with me for a little bit

I have no set direction but will not stop except for water top ups at the car park by the hydro lab.
I may even make my way up to Cascades for some hill climbing.

Personally I like to ride through puddles (on a rainy day) but yet to find myself in THAT situation.

For Sale: MTB Park, slightly used. Some winter sports opportunities.

Well, kindof Eye-wink

The assets of Intrawest, the company which owns Whistler-Blackcomb ski resorts, and a key partner in the Winter Olympics, are slated to be put on the auction block.

Watagan Forest Rd

always with the looking around for something to do
a little bit different
or just seeing great places

Ourimbah gives me the idea of slogging up the incline to ride a lot along the top.
and the next ridge up shows a nice ridge line, that goes on and on .....
so to start at the other end needs to be a 400meter climb in 2kms to get to the start
that's a hard 1 in 5, probably greater if it starts of easy early
Map My Ride route
(the hard part of Red Hill Rd at Ourimbah State is just under 1 in 5)

Thankyou

Just a quick note to all the riders that actually stopped or took the time to ask if they could help this morning whilst I was out riding terrey hills this morning (Perimeter track ) and the bolt on my crank arm cracked leaving me helpless and only being able to walk my bike home. It is much appreciated and also a good thing to know that there is so many people out there willing to help out.

Broken suspension arm bolt

I went for a ride around the Dam this morning and as I have done hundreds of times, I dropped off the large rock on the left thats behind Allambie Heights School, hit the ground and heard a massive bang. The pin that connects the suspension shock to the rear arm had completely sheared right through. Below are some pictures!

It was a long walk down to the bottom Sad

1x9 conversion

Has anyone else used the widgit? http://www.widgit.com.au/

Recently while looking at some posts on 2x9 conversion I stumbled upon the wigget...

So having worn out 3 middle rings (my bikes way of telling me that the chain ring is worn is when i stand up to grind and the chain slips over the crank.. a very nasty sound) in 12 months and almost never using the big cog and only really using granny because I'm lazy and I can, so began my internal debating over a 2x9 or 1x9 setup for my "red hill" bike..

St.Helena - what has happened???

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I went to so the St.Helena Track last weekend, and discovered to my horror that the entire section from the Oaks turnoff to the crossroad junction has been widened and made into sandy fire trail! When did this happen?? I live in Syndey so only get to go there every few months, so presumably this happened a while ago? I last did the trail in August/ September, so was expecting the same sweet singletrack that it has always been. I couldn't believe what had been done, and didn't even recognise the trail crossroads so ended up turning left (on the main track) and got lost.

Maybe we shouldn't wear helmets.....

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/society-and-cultur...

What a stupid article. Fails to mention the fact that the reason there are less accidents with more bike users is specifically because there are more bike users and better acceptance with other traffic.

Any article that recommends not wearing a helmet, even just to ride the shops and back is frankly irresponsible. While were at it, anyone see this:

Fork and shock servicing

Hi,
New to Aus. Need to get my fork (rock shox) and rear shock (fox) serviced, can't find any authorised shops the google way so thought i'd ask here. Even if their not an authorised shop- can anyone recommend a shop where they've had this work done before? I'm living in the city, so city locations would be great but all recommendations welcome
Thanks
Richie

Hi, I have just arrived in Australia and I'm living in Sydney (Dee Why). I have done adventure races in Brazil for 4 years (expedition including). but I don't ride a bycicle a year ago. I want to buy a bycicle and start the training. And I would like to find some group to train.

If you could help me I will be grateful.
