Pressure to my work building owners

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I have been talking to my HR office at work to try and get a bike rack in the parking inside the building. So far, it has been over 1 year and we got only 4 emails from the trata manager saying :'NO'.
There are 11 floors, with about 3 companies by floor, and i was told there are another 2 in the building companies also pushing for this.

SCUM tracks/Husky Enduro

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was down the Sth Coast over the weekend and decided to attend the South Coast United Mountainbikers (SCUM) 30/60km race. I've been going down to Jervis Bay for years and through laziness never realised such great tracks existed so close. I entered for the 60km but due to a half hour late start (loads of entrants for a club event), and the course being a bit longer than I expected (33km) I pulled the old DNF after one lap as I had to attend a birthday party (Basically too knackered for second lap!!).

Too young too stupid

May be I am becoming too old....

I finished riding Menai around 12 today when one teenager with a full suspension cannondale was waiting by the end of the track. He was wearing thongs, shorts and a tshirt, as if going to the beach or just a ride to the shop.
2 minutes later a mum droped another teenager with another full suspension bike. This guy also wearing appropiate cloth for the beach.

Glenrock ride

Continuing from this I will be up near Glenrock from Xmas day for a few days. I have never been here before and my plan is to go for a spin maybe on the 27th December. I know it close to Xmas but does this suit anyone keen to join me. Would be good to get someone with local knowledge Smiling
Cheers

Manly Dam "works in progress"

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I came across two dudes from Warringah Council this morning (12 December, 9 am) who were removing some of those dangerous extra timber steps on the Allambie side - under the powerlines at the start of the timber track down to the 19th Hole.

A real improvement! Smiling

Dirtworks Accommodation

Hello... I thought I would give 'those in the know' the heads up - I am not organising any accommodation this year at Dirtworks.

The accommodation we used the last two years is not available. Neither are ANY of the facilities....

As it is private property no camping is allowed their either... The whole place is OFF LIMITS

Better check your camping gear!

Menai or RNP for next Wednesday?

This will be the last Wednesday night ride for me before Christmas and the end of this year, and wanted to put it to the vote on where to ride.

I'm voting for Menai because I completely stripped, cleaned and rebuilt my Enduro yesterday and it feels like a different bike. You never know, I might start to like it soon!!!!

Also I've been riding the park nearly every day just recently so I'm a bit over it.

Frenchs Forest to Nth Ryde

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I would like to start riding from home (Frenchs Forest) to work (Nth Ryde) and am looking for an interesting (ie dirt) way of doing it.

I can cut through Cascades and come out at St Ives, however I'm then left with road the rest of the way to Nth Ryde.
Does anyone know of any way of linking up with Lane Cove NP? I've been looking on Google Earth and thinking perhaps from Davidson to East Killara then across the highway to somewhere behind Gordon?
Am I doing this the hard way?

Does anyone already do this sort of trip?

Announcing MTBSSN - the Mountain Bike Strategy for Sydney North

Announcing MTBSSN - the Mountain Bike Strategy for Sydney North!

This idea was born following from the NPWS Sustainable Cycling and Mountain Biking Workshop with NPWS staff and many cycling organisations from the Sydney North region and further afield.

This site has been created for the user consultation and planning phase of a project that will hopefully become, or add greatly to the overall mountain bike strategy in the region. It isn't just for mountain bike riders, but for anyone with an interest in trails in the region. Even opponents of riding are encouraged to take part in this consultation.

If you do not take part in these discussions then when things start moving, perhaps in a way you don't like, then you (no matter what side of the argument you are on) will have no-one to blame but yourself!

As I'm assuming most people reading here will be riders please take a moment to visit this site and add your ideas that will become part of a 'trails wish-list'. It doesn't matter how crazy, how unlikely your idea is, just get on over and post it up anyway. Of course it would help greatly if when posting you explained why the idea is a good one, from user, community and ecological point of view. Also consider the ease of construction and maintenance and sustainability of the idea (ie. straight down a fall line of a steep hill would be a big no-no: too easy for water to channel and cause errosion).

Hopefully the more ideas the community comes up with, the more likely it is some of those ideas will be found acceptable by all parties involved and some of them make it all the way from planning to acceptance and eventually implementation. Well - that's the dream, let's try and make it happen!

One last note: because the MTBSSN site is built on the same platform as NoBMoB, if you have a login for NoBMoB it will work on MTBSSN so there is no need to re-register to get involved.

St Ives showground and surrounds

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Following from the North Shore Times. Need to keep an eye on Ku-ring-gai Council and any call for public submissions, as development of the area has the potential to impact on mtb access to the trails through from St Ives Chase to the Ryland Track and on the Quarry Track / Linigen Pl links on the other side of the road.

Bike Computer "Flea"

Ok, I lost the magnet from my bike computer "flea" and have had one made up for me by the fitters at work, but the question was just asked of me, "Does the magnet need to have the positive pole out or the negative pole out ?"

I guess I could wait til I got home tonight to try both before I Loctite it in place, but does anyone here know which way ?

Cheers, Toddy

MTB apps for your iPhone/iTouch

discovered this on MTBR - may be of use to those with the iPhone/iTouch or similar - or maybe a reason to buy one Smiling
looks like if you upload some of the apps it could do away with the need to buy other biking gadgets eg bike computer, gps trainer, HRM etc (i have not uploaded/tested the apps yet so don't quote me)

Recent Feedback From National Parks Ranger

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Came past a National Parks ranger on Sunday whilst doing Perimeter trail. Stopped for a chat and asked him how things were going with us mountain bikers. He said the cross-country riders were not the problem, but the downhillers who build ramps and create all sorts of damage, etc. were a constant headache. He suggested that things were under way to open further tracks for mountain bikers, but that progress was going to depend on whether the downhillers start behaving or not. He said we should try to talk some sense into them.

Horses @ Terrey Hills

Anybody know if there tend to be many horses on the Perimiter / Long track early morning, between 7-8am?
Thought I might go for a quick blast out and back before work rather than the road option round akuna bay.
Cheers
