Cowan Trail
Can anyone comment on the legality of riding the Cowan Trail that runs off Long Trail at Terrey Hills please?
It appears to be a fire trail but has a sign saying walkers only...
There is also this comment in the ride section for Terrey Hills:
"Cowan Track
The Cowan Track forks off West about 850m from the Long/Perimeter junction. Although it is signposted, "Walkers Only" we have word from a that park rangers have confirmed riders are allowed here."

Commuting
For all those mtb commuters I am having some difficulty deciding the best path to take. I am looking are starting to commute the 14km from Balgowlah to Work in the city but don’t know the best option to take.
I have a giant trance 1 07 model for the commute but don't have a spare wheelset to throw slicks on for a quick change over between mtb tyres and slicks. I also don’t have the space for a dedicated commuter.
City Bike Depot Cannondale sale
Hi all,
I went to CBD on Saturday to buy some winter riding clothes and they told me that they'll have a sale on from tomorrow night (16 June). Cannondale are sending over all their "old" stock. I cannot remember how long it will be on for. I assume until all stock is gone.
Happy shopping!

Anyone ride Terrey Hills on Friday Night?
Did anyone ride around Terrey Hills on Friday night?
Just that I hear from the rangers a 4WD has allegedly been along Duffys Track, Perimeter & Long causing all sorts of damage. Allegedly they were doing a bit of roo shooting too.
If you saw anything give the local parks office a call, or PM/email me and will pass the info on.
Need help - Manitou Swinger 3-way Shock
Hi Guys, sorry this is a bit of a blast from the past. I'm wondering if you could cast your memories back.
I've picked up a Manitou Swinger 3-way secondhand for my 2004/5 Jekyll 800. Currently fitted with a Fox float RL. I've not yet mounted it to the bike.
Unemployed paid to bike trails
If only this could happen in NSW
A GROUP of 10 long-term unemployed jobseekers are gaining new skills while they help to build a world-class mountain bike trail at Amamoor in the Mary Valley

Shorter Stem
im thinking of changing my stem to a much shorter one. Broke my arm and now doesnt straighten, so i cant grab the bars comfortably. I've heard it increases the handling.
Is this true? any other advantages or disadvantages?

Cheap Avid Bleed Kit?
Anyone know of such a product?
I'm not really that keen on paying $60 for a couple of syringes and some plugs..... (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?M...)
I know Alligator made a universal one that T7 used to sell, but it couldn't do Avids. Surely someone else makes some cheaper aftermarket kits?
I found these Formula bleed kits which apparently do Avids as well, can anyone confirm? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?M...
They are a fair whack cheaper at $26 too.
Any help would be great thanks, my elixirs need bleeding....

Merida X-Fusion 6Hr Enduro
Our good friend Duncan at DIY MTB / X-Fusion has put together a six hour enduro. The race will be run on one of the sweet 'SCUM' xc tracks near Nowra. It is flowing single track with just enough fire trail added in to aid passing. It will probably follow a simillar format to the WWS. Deb and I have signed up and are looking forward to it.
Here is a link to the website. http://www.diymtb.com.au/6hour/
If someone could help me post it in the Ride Calendar / Race pages it would be appreciated.

Baiting & Trolls
Listen up people... I'm sure everyone is getting quiet sick of some of the name calling going on on a couple of heated threads in the forum.
Debate is good. Name calling and tit-for-tat bickering is not. If you want to do that stick to email or bugger off to where all the other kiddies hang out.
If you do not add value to a conversation expect that your posts will be deleted.
Just move along. Point taken?
P.S. There is no need for a whole bunch of 'Sorry, but...' replies here, and you can guess what will happen to any crying that is posted on this particular thread too!
Bike rack fine!
Copped a $327 fine for "Obscuring number plates" for our tow bar bike rack.
Now we genuinely had no frickin clue about the requirement for special bike plates but the size of the fine is pretty harsh.
Legally speaking, pleading ignorance is far from an excuse, but has anyone been successful in getting off these sorts of fines?
The size of the fine is a little harsh I felt. If it ranged something similar to not having P plates on or something to that effect, where it used to be around $80 - $120...fair enough. Quite happy to take it on the chin and lesson learnt but shit! $327!!
Manly Dam
I had a chat with the Manly Dam rangers today.
Apparently on Monday NPWS were out inspecting the track (for the right reasons) to see how a managed trail works.
However they were very concerned that while the trail was closed, sign posted and on the web site. Over 100 inconsiderate people were seen riding it.
With the great breakthroughs that the MTB community have had in the last two weeks due to the dedication of a select few (thanks Rob and Co). This is really not on.
Damage has been done to the trail, but more importantly to the cause.
End rant.

Inter-state MTB Hire....
Having got a leave pass for a weekend in Bris-Vegas..I have decided to pack the essentials and leave the bike at home.
The plan is to hit-up Daisy Hill for a couple of days....early August.
That does mean that I am going on holiday without the loved ones and would like to be able to find a suitable ride at my destination.
Has anyone hired the use of a MTB before?
have contacted ForTheRiders bike store...will see what they can do...
Any advice greatly appreciated!

NPWS?
Hey everyone, Boulder here,
I am a bit foggy with whats going on with all our mountain bike tracks and the NPWS, I known i'm being pretty vague, but all i have heard is rumours about manly dam closing and bantry bay to.
if someone could spare the time to spell it all out for me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all
PM Upgrade - Clean your inbox!
I'm thinking of upgrading the PM module to a newer (and naturally better) version. It changes the way things work to more of a 'chat' model than being similar to email as now.
Trouble is that as this is completely different model there is no upgrade path and will have to clear (delete) all messages in the system.
I notice there's 137 unread messages lying around but over 14,000 in total. NB: privacy advocates can chill out: 'select newmsg, count(*) from privatemsg group by newmsg;' doesn't exactly tell you anything but counts
Any objections? I would archive the old table of course and be able to pull out anyone's mailbox and email it to them on request.

Bikes in Car Advertising
Have you ever noticed how many car manufacturers use bikes in their ads? I find this a little ironic but as most of us refer to the car as a 'bike carrier' it's hardly surprising.
FWIW as I had to take a break from riding lately (medical - meh) haven't been driving much either. In fact filled the car last night for the first time in over 2 months!
Anyhow, that aside, here's a little game for anyone bored - how many car brochures or images on car manufacturer websites can you find with bikes? Post the links up here.
I'll start with:
