Recumbant Dualie?
Erm...
I put this in 'General Gear' cos am not sure I'd want to ride this off road!
Red "Muddy" Hill
Went up Red Hill today and thought I'd post to let people know how muddy it was.. well I have to say that it has to be the wettest I have ever seen it.
Not very drivetrain friendly and I had to cut short my usual ride to a slow 10K or so.

Majura Parkway Redevelopment
It seems that someone down in Canberra has come up with a plan to redevelop Majura Parkway and turn from standard 2 lane road into 4 lane (+ shoulders) dual carriageway. Red line on the image here shows where they plan to put the road and the thinner orange line shows where it is now.
Note that the proposed road goes straight through the vineyard and some of the most established and iconic tracks in Majura Pines such as Intestinal Track, Pooklestein, Damn Track, BMX Berms.
While Majura is a working forest and we know one day it will be cleared (in stages, sustainably one would hope) building this road in the proposed location makes no sense. Sure, there are sharp corners to remove further South, but why can't they leave the existing route around the forest and vineyard? It's not like it has any sharp turns or hills there and can easily and safely be driven at the speed limit?
Can't find the submission address right now but will post it up when I do.
You can post your comments to [email protected]. I assume just about anyone here would think cutting Majura Pines up like this is a rather bad idea?!
SRAM XX
Some details emerge on SRAM XX (10 speed for MTB).
Seems ring combos (not mix-n-match) will be "26-39t, 28-42t, and 30-45t" and cassette (which take 9 hours to machine out of a solid lump of steel! Think $$$!) in "11-32t and a very interesting 11-36t".
This means your granny will be less granny (26/36 smallest combo) and big dog will be less big unless you take the 30/45 ringset and suffer a granny of only 30/36. Yeah, don't think this is prime time for lazy bones riders quiet yet, but the 'roids will like it.
Meeting of Belrose Waste & Recycling Centre Community Advisory Committee
I hear that the Belrose Waste & Recycling Centre Community Advisory Committee are having a meeting at Mon 15th (June 2009) 3.30 pm at Covenant Christian School, directions here:
http://www.covenant.nsw.edu.au/contact-location-...
It would be good if someone from the MTB community could go to this. I believe the plan for the old Belrose Landfill is to turn the area into a recreational site and although this might not happen for some time it's important for the planners to know MTB riders are here and could benefit from this.
Ourimbah
Thinking of a ride at Ourimbah tomorrow and keen to hear from anyone that might know if the track is good to go or if it also needs a few more days to dry out.
Burning Trails, not looking good for Nobmob
Those results aren't looking good to have a Nobmobber present in the final three.
Maybe its time all the Mob involved get together and decide which one of them they want the rest of us to vote for.
Remember we only get one vote and we need to make it count.
Mike Baird, MP - Mountain Bike Park Access
Manly MP Mike Baird brought up the issue of trail access in state Parliament yesterday. This is very good for trail advocacy work and I'd like to publicly thank him for taking an interest in our sport and plight.
Below is the transcript of what was said, taken from http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/Prod/parlment/h...
This is also available on the member's website here: http://www.mikebaird.com.au/interactive/speeches...
There is a press release here with a comments form to complete if you'd like to show Mr Baird your gratitude directly on his site too. All too often people moan at the bad and don't congratulate the good so it's very worthwhile showing support for this action:

Here's hoping something good can come of this.
Manly Daily - Taken for a ride
This is interesting
http://manly-daily.whereilive.com.au/news/story/...
What I actually said was that there were only 5Km of legal single track in the local vicinity. But I guess that's the same thing - I mean, we don't condone illegal activities so it's pretty much the same thing.
Any good Climbing areas near good trails?
So to cut a long story short, newish to mtb but long time climber.
Does anyone know some nice cliffs near a good trail? I am thinking of a fun combined activity day for some like minded friends.
(I am assuming most would be up in the Blue Mountains?)
Stolen Specialized Stumpjumper Comp
My bike was stolen a month ago from the "workshop" at Pedals Plus in Mona Vale. The owner of the shop assured me they had posted a notice here but as I can't find any mention of it, thought I should do so myself.
I bought it second hand and only had it for 3 weeks before it was pinched, so I'm struggling to think of any identifiers. Best I can do is say it was a 2007 Stumpjumper Comp dual suspension Mountainbike in very dark grey (close to black). I actually thought it was a 2008 model but, as the kid at the shop took great delight in telling me, it was actually 2007 spec.

Manly Dam is Closed
As we've discussed, this really shouldn't need saying. But for those who can't make their own mind up here it is from the rangers:
The mountain bike trail at Manly Dam is CLOSED due to the recent rain and wet track conditions. The track is completely waterlogged and runoff from the catchment is further adding to the problem. We'll send out a note when we've reopened, but please be aware that it most likely that the trail will be closed until next week.
Please spread the word to others.
Anyone wishing to be added to the mailing list can email us at: [email protected]
Thanks again for your cooperation.

my suspension fork
Hi guys MountainBiker hear. i have a Diamondback Zetec X4 and the suspension fork on the bike is not the best but i wouldn't say its crap i just need something softer.....getting to the point i was wondering if anyone could suggest/recommend any forks that would fit my bike (the bike is a small i think 14"have to look it up on the website) and is soft enough so a 12 year old could push it down (I'm 12 yes i know I'm young but i love mountain biking)but i have a budget $300 - about $450. I have no idea on how to look for a fork that would fit my bike.

Scammer?
Hey guys I stumbled across this guys adverts over the web and they are a little fishy...
He doesnt give phone numbers or an address, but I wanted to just see if anyone knows about it:

I googled it and did a brief browse, and nobody has so far come up with complaints of scamming. I emailed the guy to ask for some more info.
latex tyre sealants
Is there any reason why i shouldn't use art mask making latex solutions for use in my homemade tubeless setup?
See http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Art-Masking-Fluid-100ml-R...
If i shouldn't use this, where can i find a latex solutions that's not $500000000 Stans or DT swiss solutions?
thanks

Does riding a Mt Bike make me an alien?
I hadn't really noticed before. But On Sunday I went for a burn on the bike. I was riding up a rd in Elanora, very slowly as it was very steep. I past a guy that was walking down the street, we made eye contact so I said "G'day", and gave the small nod. He looked at me, totally ignoring me and looked the other way. So I said loud enough so he could hear. "I'm good, thanks". Then later I was riding again in Elanora (I know, I'm desperate to ride my new bike... LOL), and past another person, in the same senario, to which the exact same thing happened...
Ridin' vs Running
With all the rain lately I've started to climb the walls and as a last resort I went back to the old habits and went for a run just to get get out there. The effect is severe leg ache the days after. I'm starting to think that running and riding uses quite different muscle groups and resorting to running might not be such a good substitute for ridig after all?
Is there anyone out there who knows anything about it? Is it good to combine or will running "eat" away on the rinding fitness or is running a good approach to keep the training going even when it is wet?
