Narrabeen Lakes loop
A number of weeks ago I was keen to check out the loop so I could take my missus around it. It was the first time I had gone around and got to the creek crossing (to get to the golf course with the concrete weer to walk across) and came to a gate with a chain and padlock. Have I got the correct spot? I followed the 'sheep track' across the clearing as per my mates instructions.
I didn't go any further than this gate and headed back to the terminus.
I've now got my missus bike finished and want to get her out and about.
Cheers
Tark

D6 Upgrade Done
What is everyone doing on the site on a Friday night? Shouldn't you be watching the cricket[1]? Or later the TdF?
Anyhow - hop to it... I'll be running a site upgrade once the tour hits our screens this evening. Should be out for 30 mins or something.
All done... and isn't it pretty?
Please start a new 'site topics' forum topic or PM/email me if you find anything funny going on!

fox float 140 rebuild
i hooked into the forks opened them up , washed them all nice and clean, put some enduro seals in, the only question? is motul fl fork oil any good or is there an alternative
Appin meet point
The last ride I posted to Appin I didn't check the site default meet point and it took people to market and burke which had them turning down the road next to the sports field. This lead them to a dead end and a fire trial ride to get to the gate.
I was waiting where I usually park and wondering where everyone was.
Coming from Campbelltown, if you continue on past this street and the shops then turn at the next left, marked with a sign to the scout hall you will end up in the carpark where the gate is.
Brake Pad Wear

Giving riders a bad name
Seen this?
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/media/DecMedia...
Ms Cooper said the NPWS staff had noticed that gold spray paint had been used on more than one occasion to deface signage and that someone was also repetitively nailing cycling signs into trees in the area as well as illegally clearing bushland for bike riding tracks.
How are we ever going to gain legal access with this sort of behaviour going on?
STOLEN NSW - 2009 Specialized Stumpjumper Expert Carbon MTB
STOLEN VIA AN ELABORATE SCAM.
2009 Specialized Stumpjumper Expert Carbon Mountain Bike
This is a brand new bike and was stolen between April/May 2009. The person responsible competes in cross-country & we know the bike was used in one or two events at the end of May. These are facts supplied to the freight company by the person involved. This is not assumption on my part. The bike was last seen on the 19th May by the freight company when left at a block of flats in Mosman NSW.
How recreation contributes to conservation
This article was recently posted on MTBA. The first couple paragraphs say a lot:
A body of empirical, scientific studies now indicates that mountain biking is no more damaging than other forms of recreation, including hiking. Thus, managers who prohibit bicycle use (while allowing hiking) based on impacts to trails, soils, wildlife or vegetation are acting without sound, scientific backing.
The wisdom of prohibiting particular user groups in order to satisfy the desires of other groups is a matter for politics rather than science.

Dry spot for a first ride?
Hoping to take my wife out for her first off-road ride this weekend. Any recommendations for anywhere non-technical that should be dry by Sunday (presuming we don't get hosed between now and then)? Can be up to an hour or so from Sydney. I'm thinking maybe wisemans ferry or the Oaks? Other ideas?
Suntour XCR fork service - need some help
So my forks have not been working well for a while and I should have looked at this a long time ago but I never found the time and just kept riding. Considering these are not expensive forks I figured I might as well learn now before I purchase a new bike and the stakes are higher with more expensive suspension.
Bottled Water is Bad
Seen this?
http://www.smh.com.au/environment/water-issues/r...
Bundanoon has banned bottled water, planning to place free water fountains in the streets instead.
Go Huw! Now if only the NSW gov. would follow you on a few other issues.
Rainy Weekend?
What are the chances of getting out this weekend?
After reading Loz's account of the trails last night even if it stops now I can't see things drying out any time soon. Waaaaaaaaaaa!
Perhaps it's just a weekend for staying up all night, enjoying the sport on TV and sleeping in?

Bike and Shop
Hey everyone, I'm new to the whole mountain bike caper, in the real terms of actually riding on trails anyway! But rode Manly Dam last friday on a bike lent to me by someone who thought they had an awesome bike (although not what more experienced eyes have said) it was a Mongoose something or other (I remember them from bmx back in the 80's) anyway did the job but didn't inspire confidence in how many times it might complete the circuit, so I was wondering if anyone has any basic advice for me on brands and good cycle shops?

Mountain cleaners wanted:
Amazing - the Swiss even clean their mountains.
Many thousands of people in Switzerland do everything day in, day out so that guests in our country can have absolutely perfect holidays. Many do things that others do not even think about.

The dirty way to get to Melbourne
I'm thinking of riding to Melbourne via the most scenic and dirty way possible avoiding the black stuff wherever I can. Has anyone done this? Does anyone know how possible this is? Can anyone point me in the direction of some good online resources about preparing for big epic trips? All help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Phil
Manly Dam Works
Spoke to someone at the council just now and can share these snippets about what's going on at the Dam, etc.
Seems the work done is based on recommendations from an 'independent consultants' report that was completed Feb '08. If this turns out to be a public document I would be interested to see it.
The rangers at the Dam have to deal with all user groups of course and have arranged for the contractors we see working to alter the course as per this independent report.
