Bike insurance

Does anyone have their bikes insured against damage while out riding? I believe most contents and portable insurance wont cover you if you are actually on the bike.

Was your submission the the NP tourism taskfork counted?

There has been a bit of talk about the low number of submissions from the MTB community on the recent tourism taskforce.

Details of every submission is on this page (or if they move from there, they are also in the Appendix document):

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/parks/tourismt...

For the record, if you submitted comment supporting MTB access (which is clearly a very easy way to increase tourism and park use) to the taskforce and your submission is not listed please comment on this thread. Just a simple, "They forgot me - Fred Flintstone" will suffice.

Update: Please indicate if you sent your submission via email or regular postal mail.

Update: To clarify - we are talking about the NSW Tourism Taskforce for NSW National Parks as discussed on the DECC site above (not the other trail advocacy campaign about trails in Hornsby which seems to have had more support).

Please do not comment on this thread for any other reason. If you want to discuss this further please start another topic.

How to give bike advice?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

You know the drill, a "non-biker" at the workplace or friend wants to buy a bike to ride to work or weekend etc.

One workmate today told me he'd seen my bike(s) and want one just like it BUT only want to spend $100 (cough)

I tried to explain to him that my bikes cost $5k each but he's back with a unfazed reply, "so do you think i can get a good bike for $100 then"?
I try pushing the price up to $500+ where it gets some parts and names that inspire "some sort of confidence".

No, the price is firm, $100 only. What about a secondy? Nup - saw these new ones for that much at K Mart.

New mountain bike

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,

I'm once again looking for your valued opinion and advice. Plus, I know it's great fun to spend someone else's money for a change Smiling

I'm currently toying with the idea of buying my first dual suspension bike and since I'm not very tall or heavy, I'm specifically looking at women's bikes. My budget is $2500 (and this time I'd like to stick to it).

Here are three I have so far come up with. I have no idea about components when it comes to mountain bikes, so not sure how you would rate these.

Sanyo Hybrid Electric/Human Powered Bicycle

I found this pretty cool..

http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,28348,...

If I didn't actually enjoy the thrill of pushing myself hard whilst commuting to work, this would actually be pretty good.

I reckon it'd be perfect for those who don't have the luxuries of showers at work.. and can get into work on a bike sweat free?

I like the regenerative braking system. Thats clever.

huh, cheaper than all our bikes too! Smiling

I'd never use it, but hey, if it gets more people on bikes, then all the better.

The Mont 24 Hour

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

As many of you may well know, I wish to form a team for the Mont next April. Presently and theoretically this team already consists of Evan, aka 'Ev' and Anke, aka 'Anke13' and myself.
My plan is to enter the mixed fours category though since we already have one girl a rider of either gender is welcome to join. It would seem that if the team were to consist of three blokes and Anke, then that's sufficiently mixed...
Therefore the call goes out for a fourth team member. Woman or man. I'd've invited Whisperer yet he's a tad quick for us.

Does anyone know a printing company who would be willing to help out with a trail advocacy campaign?

Hi everyone,

Hornsby Shire Mountain Bike Alliance (HSMBA) is a group of riders campaigning to get a singletrack trail built in Hornsby shire. Go to http://hsmba.info/ for more details.

I'm hoping there's a bike friendly printing company out there that might be able to help design and print a set of leaflets we want to put out there.

If you know someone that might be able to help, please let me know.

Cheers! Morgan

Possible Ourimbah ride Wednesday....

I might be finishing work a bit early tomorrow and if so I'm gunna head to Ourimbah for a couple hours. Would be looking to leave Hornsby about 4.30.

If you're a slackass like me and interested, drop me a text as I won't be able to log on here before I leave. It's not a defo but I'll let you know in the arvo.

Cheers! Zinn the Merciless.

Keen for a team... (for the Sydney 24)

I'm a bit slow off the mark for this one, moving house at the moment.
(More effort than a 24!)

I'm interested in riding, but no time to think about a team just at the moment.
Would be interested in joining a team 4 or 6, as usual aiming towards the pointy end of the field.

Whisperer

Update: Sorted, part of an as yet un-named mixed team of 6..

KINETIC Road Machine Fluid Trainer

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was using this trainer during my rehab while I could not ride trails. Was purchased new in July and was only used for a couple of months.

This is a fantastic bike trainer, one of the best I have used. The trainer retails for $600 and I am open to reasonable offers. If I cannot sell it for a decent price I will keep it. If you are thinking of buying a new trainer this is your opportunity to save some cash.

Comes with all packaging, manuals, receipt etc.

Features:

- Measurable and repeatable workload
- 6.25 lb. flywheel for realistic coast-down

looking for large pedals

hey guys

i need to get new pedals for my bike
at the moment ive only got the original default pedals, but i find theres not enough grip with them so im constantly slipping

i decided i dont want to get clips since im not doing any sort of road riding and i like to have my feet free in case i lose balance in corners so i can stick my foot out

so im just wondering what kinda pedals should i get.

so far ive only found this one, but there has to be more out there?

Ride Today - Trail or Road

I know it is short notice but as the sun is out and the ride this morning got canned I am still keen to hit the trails or the road about 1:30-2pm. Could do Duck+Centre+Part of Waratah as it can get quite boggy or if I hit the black stuff I will do Akuna Bay+West Head.

Anyone interested?

Cheers

What to do in Melbourne?

I will be heading down to Melbourne for a week before coming back via Thredbo this Christmas.

Where will it be worth checking out? At the moment I will definitely be taking the VP Free but if there is good XC then I may take the Trance down too.

Any ideas will be much appreciated Smiling
