Finding the trails at Ourimbah

How hard is it to find the trails at Ourimbah by myself? I've never been out there but plan on going this weekend and was wondering how much fun one can have without actually knowing the trails. And what are the downhill tracks like, being more of a more fun down that up guy?

Help with new bike for training on.

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Would like some help as I have a Merida big nine carbon team bike but would like to have a second bike to train on. Just test rode the Trek superfly 9 and really like the bike but I plan on doing some XC events the Convict 100 as well as some 4hr races this year. So I'm looking for some help I what bike I should train on that won't make me slow on my main bike if that makes sense.

Garmin gps file editor

I went for a ride this morning and about 10km in, the garmin turned off. I pulled over, restarted it and carried on. When I got home the first part of the ride isn't recognized by the either the garmin or the the conputer. (It's a Garmin 810 so doesn't carry on from the same ride like the 500, it starts a new ride.) The rest of the ride uploads fine to Garmin Connect but won't sync with Strava. I've tried manually export both the gps and tcx files and uploading to Strava but it says there is a problem.

Can anyone recommend a good gps editor that may be able to sort the files out?

Mt Buller "shuttle" and time

We're spending two weeks in Mt Beauty in March and want to head across to Mt Buller for a couple of days. As well as the trails on top of the hill, we'll ride the Epic trail. It sounds as though a few people on here have ridden there recently. Can anyone tell me if there is any way of getting back up to Mt Buller on a weekday? The "BlueDirt" shuttles only run on weekends. Also, how long does the Epic take to ride?

Visiting Sydney from the states - the end of March

I am visiting Sydney from March 24 - April 2nd. I ride and race mountain bikes in the States. Looking for a place to rent a mountain bike and hoping to connect with some people who also love to mountain bike to go on a ride or 2.

DIY Carbon Frame Repair

Small crack in frame and some rather pricey quotes left me thinking that I should just do it myself.

Super easy, just sand it down to existing fibre, slap on some epoxy and a carbon patch. Ideally use a vacuum bag but in lieu of that a freezer bag and duct tape as tight as you can to force that resin in to the fibre and make the patch as compact as possible. Then sand until smooth and paint it.

A few hours worth of tinkering and what looked like a disaster has been sorted at a cost of less than $50 in resin and fibre - yay!

St Ives - action needed by 27 Feb

Hi all

Kuringai Councils draft plan of management is considering mountain biking given St Ives sniggle cuts through it and they have land at HART.

The sniggle is basically as busy as Manly Dam and we need to ensure that riding is recognised.

There are at least 9000 mountain bikers in this part of Sydney, please make sure Council know they need to be part of the solution by providing trail and linkages to other land managers as part of the whole of government strategy published by NPWS in 2011.

Snowy Mountain Mountain Bike Festival

My mates and I did this at the weekend - an excellent event that I'd definitely do again. The two day, 4 stage format makes a nice change from the 100km events.

Keep a look out for it next year as it could do with a few more entrants.

Off your trolley...

I came across what looks to be over 50 trolleys stashed in the bushes the other day at the dam, not far from the Parkway. My guess is the homeless guy that lives in there may be a hoarder...

Has anyone ridden at Falls creek?

I'm tossing up mt buller vs falls creek. I believe there are great trails at both, but they are 4 hours apart!
Buller has the new alpine epic trail, falls creek has similar I believe and has also hosted championship races..

If I lived in Melbourne, I could do both on different weekends. But I live in sydney!

Any recommendations and insight appreciated.
Cheers

2 brand new Yeti's stolen from secure underground car park, 2 block locks on the garage door & chained together with bike locks etc in the garage(what do you have to do to be secure). Reported to police with serial #'s photos & video.

Black ARC-C (29er) large & Medium frame 575 (27.5) Yeti turquoise. Have loads of video but with heads wrapped doesn't give that much help. They took over an hour to bust throught my garage door early Friday (Feb 20th)morning between 1 & 3.00am afer crow barring one of the fire exit doors to gain access to the car park & bringing bolt/chain cutters with them.

Stromlo is definitely on our list but we'd like to ride some more trails also I've heard you guy's are spoilt for great single track down there so give me the low down please!!!

Roubaix thief North Sydney caught on video surveillance.

The thief looks late twenties, fit as a bike rider, black tee-shirt, blue jeans, khaki cap, small backpack which probably includes side cutters and small bolt cutter. He also has my dark blue helmet with black sun shade and with helmet mounted light which is a little unusual. Video shows him very casually walking in and riding out, a pro, with I am sure many of our bikes under his belt. The Police also now have the pictures. Please call CrimeStoppers if you recognise him.

Signs to guide people around Bantry Bay loop?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The new Gahnia and Serrata trails have bought many more people to ride in Bantry Bay which is great.

What I've noticed though is that there is no guidance for people to link the trails up... So people are just finding their own way... And the most obvious is to go across the southern oval in Forestville and up the walking trail that links to the Bluff. There's two issues with this:

A. It puts riders onto the same trail in opposite directions
B. It puts riders onto the rockshelf / carvings which are now out of bounds.

Dropper seatpost and top tube converters

I've always lugged my 06 Reign around on a towbar mounted rack with a top tube converter. Today I switched out the seatpost for a Giant Contact dropper post - has anyone had any experience with dropper posts being ruined by top tube converters?

I assume the posts work really when used properly, ie, being sat on, but not sure whether they'll go as well being pulled the other way when in transit using a top tube converter.

FYI, I can manually pull the seatpost so it fully extends even when the trigger isn't pressed...there's no locking mechanism to stop it moving upwards.
