Jerusalem Bay

Has anyone ever riden from Cowan down to Jerusalem Bay? Or, gone further and ridden right down to Brooklyn? I've been thinking of making a morning of it although am worried about how much walking I may have to do. Then train it back up to Cowan.

Manly Dam Step Ups

After the large flat rock that you tend to stop on and check out the view is a climb up towards Wakehurst Parkway. In the details on this site I think part of this is refered to as the step ups. I would like to know if anyone can actually ride their bikes up this?

Dirtworks Post-mortem

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

A very satisfying (for the most part) and somewhat eventful weekend at the Dirtworks. Plenty fun I think, although personally, I'd rather not experience this again (which is no-one's fault but my own).

My MB profile is here:

http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/2662125

If you have a profile or time and want to share please do - I'll slap a table up, we had some cracking times so well done all!

For me, as I say on MB, "First 50 looking good, around 70Ks beginning to falter, last 20Ks - pure hell! Didn't eat/drink enough to keep the early pace going. Doh!"

All-Round Bike

I'm currently riding a 2002 Norco VPS atomik. It's great, but heavy and not enough gears. I'm looking for a more allround bike, want to spend about $2000. obviously dualie, discs, reasonable travel, No crazy 8" DH monsters, reasonably light. Anybody have any ideas, what are you riding, what do you like? any opinions welcome.

Been looking at Mongoose Teocali, Giant reign???

Would love a S-works enduro, but who has $7000 for a bike.

cheers

BBQ???

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Everyone,

I've noticed that there are a lot of rides and general bike issues being posted. But what about a planning a BBQ so that everyone can meet everyone? I mean most of us generally meet each other every week or every month on a ride and not every ride is suitable for everyone.

Some thoughts:
Have to have a gas BBQ'S (or several!!!) so we can eat
BYO??? or have a kitty????
Near enough to a track so we can have fun as well (Manly Dam, Terry Hills, Narrabeen lakes??)
Far enough ahead so that we can plan ahead. That is no earlier than July

Missing Images?

Erm... has anybody noticed that sometimes images from our site don't load properly? I mean, there's a place holder on the page with a little red cross top left where you'd imagine a nice, shiny image should be?

I think there's something funny going on with some firewalls and IE6 (same firewall, FF doesn't seem to be a problem), but can't be sure.

Please comment below if you aren't seeing the site in all it's... erm... glory? Eye-wink

Roof or towbar racks?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there,

Newbie here just getting back into riding and looking for the best options to carry two bikes around. At the moment I do not have a tow bar or roof racks (car has build in rails) so my two options are.

1: Buy a tow bar and bike rack for the back of the car which could be expensive considering I need the tow bar as well as the rack.

2: Get roof racks (which I could use for other purposes) and some racks for my roof.

I'm just curious about peoples opinions on the two types of racks and if there is a particular brand that anyone would recommend.

Thanks!

Maintenance Seminar - anyone want to come??

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi,
After the crap weather we've all been subjecting our bikes to there has been a bit of chat about servicing and maintaining the bike. A few people suggested maintenance seminars and I know Bike Addiction in Manly will do one on demand if there are at least two people. I've also checked out Renegade's site and the link on their maintenance seminar is below.

GPS - recommendations?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Folks,

I've been looking around for a while for a hand-held GPS unit for a variety of uses.

Mostly for easy street navigation around Sydney & 'burbs. However I would also like to use it for plotting my MTB rides and off-road navigation.

I've found some potentially useful tools (GPSBabel etc) for converting GPS data to KML/KMZ files for Google Earth etc so I can easily display the data.

Now what I'd like to know is what sort of GPS units do the group use (if any)?

I've been thinking a Garmin Nuvi 300 or Navman N60i (which has the benefit/gimmick of NavPix)

Motorbikes at Oxford Falls

Hey all

Have you guys even come across many motorbikes in Oxford Falls? I was doing a few laps around the XC course and nearly had 2 head-ons with motorbikes. Bit scary/dangerous in that narrow trail.

If not then let this be a warning Smiling

Narrabeen Lake/Lagoon

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has ridden around the whole of Narrabeen Lake and know the legality of traveling on the golf course and Sports Institute grounds. I think there is public access on the golf course much to the dismay of the golfers... But, there is a big sign on the Sports Institute telling people that it is private property and not to enter. Which is a pity as its would complete a great circuit. All but 1km is off the bitumen, and is very flat. Great for beginners.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Sydney to the gong in november

As a pom and feeling disgraced by a few mates who did the marathon this year I thought I'd give the gong run a go. I'll be running on my MTB (Giant XTC) - I'll use road tyres, but otherwise as it comes. It takes me a good bit over two hours to do two laps of the dam, so I'm not going to win it.

It's 90km, and in November apparently, here's the route:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~sratcliff/sydney2go...

Any takers? Any suggestions who/what to ride for?

Cheers,
Alex

Lost Gloves - West Head

Hi all,

If by some minor miracle a pair of black, full finger, Vaude gloves, large-ish size - to fit an oaf with little brain, is found by the parking area near corner West Head/McCarrs Creek - said oaf would love to see them again.

Rob...
... who must remember not to place gloves atop car... esp. at night... esp. when they are black and 2 weeks old Sad
