Western Sydney Parklands - MTB update Feb 2014
Hi all - great news from Western Sydney Parklands. Josh French advises:
"As Yolanda advised you in August last year the Trust has allocated funding to construct a Mountain Bike Course at Cecil Hills in the Western Sydney Parklands.
Smart Phone GPS or Garmin / Similar Bike Computer
I just lost my dumb phone and am in the market for a new smart one. My question is are smart phones adequate for GPS tracking and current location on a map whilst out on the trails, or should I be looking to get a separate GPS Bike Computer?
The primary use for this is going to be finding my way around new trails here and overseas, so I need current map location etc.
If phones are OK are they all essentially the same, but depend on the app it's running? ie. can I get away with buying a cheap phone?

mt canobolas allmountain/gravity trails
Hi guys heard there were some longer gravity runs on mt. canobolas. I'm based in dubbo but will be in Orange Sat the 22/02. I have rode Kinross a lot but never canobolas. I have a gravity enduro event comming up and I am keen to get some training in. I would appreciate any advice to steer me in the right direction or i can even provide a vehicle to shuttle if needed. Cheers

2014 4 seasons 3hr series
It's on again!
Remember when life was simple? Remember when you rode your bike to have a good time?
When you rode because it felt good and the company you rode with and the tracks you rode were more important than having 1000 categories to choose from and a big list of swag to choose from.
Well CTMBC are taking it back.
We're stripping away all the hype and complications and just having a fun series of 3hr races celebrating the seasons.
Nicolai Fatty
I'm loving the look of this and want to try. The drive and gearbox look interesting, upside down forks too

26inch tyre for a trainer
Looking for advice on what the minimum width tyre I can use on a bog standard 26inch wheel so I can reduce the noise from Gel roller trainer. I've hijacked the Wife's Giant Boulder to hook up on the trainer but the noise from the tyre is too great. Tyre is currently 26x1.95.
Also, will tyre pressure effect noise? Currently at 50psi

Custom hardtail creation
Hi all,
As a bit of a side project in the future I'd love to build myself a custom XC racing hardtail with an emphasis on being ultra light weight
for those who have undertaken a project or who have an idea about products out there, i'd love to hear what you would use in your opinion for the components, gearing, brakes, tyres, rims, frame ETC
Price range doesnt matter as atm its all a dream i would just like to hear what you would all suggest given the wide range of products out there
Cheers,

Bike Recommendations
Ok so I have approx $5k (maybe stretch a little bit more but dont say anything) for a new XC 29er dually. Ideally new but would consider good condition used if the right bike. Have looked around a bit but nothing like hearing from guys who have owned and ridden. Any suggestions for a new or even anyone got something they are considering trading which would fit the bill??

Stolen Intense Tracer, Manly, 15/02/2014
Hi,
My Bike was stolen from the TV broadcast compound at the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing at Manly Beach on the 15/02/2014. It was taken between 4-4:30pm While there was security and police around and thousands of people around, We also had a ladder stolen so the security was f*cking useless.
There is probably less than 5 CRC blue Intense's in this country, i only personally know of 1 more blue Tracer, so if you see one riding around or for sale it is probably mine. It has been reported to the Police and they have photos and its serial number.
Rear shock play
I ride a Trance X Advance 2012 with an RP23 shock that has now developed some play in the top mounting bolt. I suspect the 2000kms it's done has worn the silver things that insert into the eye of the shock and they need replacing. As you can probably tell by reading this I have no mechanical aptitude what so ever and have had to learn maintenance as I go. Anyone know the name of the parts I am referring to and where I can get replacements from? Also, do they need to be pressed in tight with a special tool or does the bolt tighten them up sufficiently?
Every bit helps
Hello all
I received this email this evening from a riding buddy in Addlaide. Essentially it's a call to arms to help all riders of all disciplines.
Hello,
I'm sending you this email because you ride a bike or you're a MAMIL or somehow part of the cycling community... and my friend Adam needs some support for his project which is aimed to help cyclists.
Solo Twenty-Four
A short vid featuring Brett Bellchambers at the WEMBO 24 hour Worlds last year.
Great nite-time sequences capture the feel of events like this really well.
Epic or Superfly ?
My shortlist of 29:ers is getting shorter.
Is there anyone out there who has ridden both an Epic Matahon or better and a Superly FS 9.8 or better and can offer some comparisons. I've only ridden the Epic myself and it was superb but Superfly keeps getting great reviews so I'm keen to hear from anyone who have ridden them both and can offer their thoughts.
If the comparison is for a small frame - that will be fantastic but I'm happy to hear from any reviewer regardless of frame size.
Many Thanks in Advance
Access from Morgan Rd Fire Trail
All - Having never ridden Oxford falls.
Can I access Wakehurst Parkway, from the Deep Creek eastern end of the trail. (Legally of course).
Or do I simply turn around and ride the way in.

Adamo seats?
Anyone tried one of those Adamo seats for MTB riding?
An important request from the Mayor of Warringah - remember to share the trails with courtesy
We have received an important request from the Mayor of Warringah regarding concerns some residents in the area have about riders behaviour on the track around Narrabeen Lagoon.
Please take a moment to review this and take on board his message (and one that we have been supporting for many years) that the trails are there to share.
Obviously this is a particularly family friendly trail and not only should riders take care when approaching and passing walkers and joggers, they should also be aware a large number of young children learn to ride (and to love riding) right here.
Full details can be found here: Cyclists on the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail. Please follow up on that thread.
Cyclists on the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail
We received this letter from the Mayor of Warringah last night.
Please note the Mayor's concerns and remember to always be courteous to other trail users. I have updated the General Trail Etiquette page as is suggested.

Making the Leonardi Racing Kit General Lee 11/40 SRAM cassette kit shift properly!
For my previous comments on the General Lee (GL) adapter see - http://perthmtb.asn.au/node/43354
After much adjusting, tinkering, swearing, cursing and using objectionable language, I've finally fixed the shifting of the GL adapter to be close to my SRAM and XT systems. Initially I could get the system to shift to a higher gear (smaller sprocket) but hang changing to a lower gear (to larger sprocket) or shift to a lower gear ok, but hang shifting to a higher gear (to a smaller sprocket). I've now got it shifting both ways with no hangups.
