Sticky Piston

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Folks,

I have recently had probs with a piston in a set of Juicy 5's that wont fully retract...

I bleed some fluid to help increase the gap, and always ensure (yeh, right) that I remove the pad prior to applying anything.

Just wondering what people use for lubrication??

I used a little bit of silicon spray in a syringe just around the pistons, which helped, but I am worried that it may attract dust (I am in the NW)

Ideas??

Ps. And no I will not be buying a set of brakes from other reputable brands in the interim, so don't type it!

Top Flick

Best video i've seen in ages... Solid footage and score but keeps it very simple both cinematography and gear. I love it.

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

hi all,

have/or are any of you guys currently using any ax-lightness bike parts?

I have been thinking about various upgrades, for instance seat post and saddle whilst trying to stay all carbon

any reviews would be appreciated or any other brands for that matter

thanks,

Calories, Powermeters, and a lovely video

Hey all.

So I havent forgotten I have promised to wrtie some stuff down in a regular blog about training. I am just working on the format, and how to make it 'real' for all levels of rider. There might even be some videos (if JP and I ever get to sit down and plan it)...

In the meantime, I wanted to share this link with you all. It written by a guy called Allen Lim, who is pretty much a 'go to' source on food and fluids.

Cascades Monday 27 Jan

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi everyone,

Going out for a ride on my new bike tomorrow.

Heading to the Cascades trail, parking at the end of Wyatt Ave as per the trail data on this site.

Will be there about 7:30am and plan on spending a couple of hours hitting the tracks.

Haven't done MTB for about 25yrs, so this will be all new to me again.
Back in the day there was no suspension, no disc brakes, no dropper posts.
And the bikes weighed more than the dual suspension rig I'm riding now.

Got a Specialized Camber Expert Carbon Evo and so far very impressed.

Where to start

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Gday, my name is Gus and I am living around the Orange area. I'm looking to get started in XC mountain biking. I have purchased a second hand Specialized Pitch Pro, in as new condition, and am wanting to get out for a ride whenever I can but not sure how to start being at the beginner level.

Cheers

Gus

Emu Heights to Yellomundee

Does anyone know if you can ride trails from Emu Heights and link up with Yellomundee Regional park? If so anything one needs to be mindful of?

Car choice

Ok, this is off topic but sorta related.

I'm shopping around for a new car and leaning towards the Subaru Outback 2.0L turbo diesel (manual).

Its no secret why. It's MTB friendly and has enough boot room to replace my shed.

The other alternative is the X-Trail, but feels heavy. Have driven it and has some grunt but feels very heavy.

Outback seems to have the better handling but is a little pricey sitting above $42K.

So question is, does anyone have any one of these two cars and if not, experiences with a good car that are MTB/outdoor lifestyle friendly?

Tubeless

I've just got a bike with tubeless wheels and I know nothing about them. Couple of really basic questions: They seem to lose a little bit of air over a few weeks - is this normal? Also when you are out riding what do you take in case of puncture (or whatever tubeless do when they deflate?)

Australia Day Weekend Deals

While we encourage everyone to support local bike shops, and in particular our local sponsors, Bike Addiction and Bicycles Online... it's understandable people shop around for deals.

To that end, wanted to point out that Wiggle has free shipping on everything plus a couple of coupons to use:

Save $25 when you spend $190: MONEY-OFF-1
Save $70 when you spend $375: MONEY-OFF-2

Clubs need volunteers

Every one likes to race and most people appreciate the efforts of those organising it.

Most are happy to help out where they can in the lead up on the day of a race but have you ever thought about becoming a commissaire?

The commissaire is the one who makes sure things are being run safely and fairly.

At club level you can also be an organiser or entrant and generally doesn't take too much out of your time. That said they are essential to the running of the race.

Call out to all the motorcyclists on the forum

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

First off sorry rob i wasn't sure where to post this.. And im sorry because i no this subject is taboo on the forum, but it is relevant.

Now. a few months ago i went n + 1 Laughing out loud I bought a road motorbike as a weekend toy.

Now my question is my dad is a very keen motorcyclist so i've been learning from him, reading books and doing research of my own. Now what amazes me is just how much quicker and comfortable i am now opposed to when i started and how i hold my average speed so much higher and am using the tyre much more/leaning over etc etc..

Cane Creek DB air CS

I'm looking at swapping out the rear shock of my Mojo HD for the Cane Creek DB air CS.
Anyone have any feed back on this shock?

Wingello - Anyone know if it's closed this weekend?

Might sound like a strange question but I've driven down there only for the mtb trails to be closed for a scout camp. I have tried Googleing it but I can only seem to find fire danger closures for the state forests, nothing for event closures.

Found ..... Multi tool, Manly Dam, Sunday 19 Jan

Found a multi tool at the Dam today, it wasn't there on my first lap, so must have been dropped between 12:30 and 1:00

Send me a message if you lost one and let me know the brand, hopefully I can reunite it with its owner!

Hot weather and hydraulic brakes!!

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Made the mistake of leaving my bike out in the sun (40c here) for awhile. Came to get on it and the front brake was really dragging and unridable. Worked out the heat had either expanded the oil in the system, and/or other parts of the system. Put it in the shade and once it cooled down everything was normal.

Moral: dont park bike in direct sun when its hot.

FWIW.
