Garmin Edge 500 HRM problems
Got an Edge 500 Premium Bundle earlier this year and have had to send the HRM and the whole lot back 3 times now.
Read all the help sites about getting the HRM to pick up properly (swapping the battery around, removing the battery for about 5 mins, resetting the Garmin itself) all to no avail. Even using a different strap. Battery charge is fine (checked that too)
All work for about 6 weeks and then the whole cycle starts again. HRM detected but no reading, or reading 60 BPM in the middle of a 4 hour race.
Anyone got any tips, besides sending it back again.
to give this forning before I leave : lot of different oil, tire sealant, redrum - Pick up in Arcnliffe
I am leaving Australia for good at 12pm
If you leave close to Arncliffe, I am happy for you to come and pick up a box with a lot of oil that I have here : redrum, fork oil, chain oil, wd40, degreaser, lot of tubeless tire sealant
I would prefer to give it to someone than putting it in the bin

ODI Rogue grips
Looking to change the grips on my 2014 Giant Anthem 27.5, What attracted me initially was the larger grip size, for bigger hands, comfort and grip. Does anyone ride these?
Do any perth shops stock them?
Specialized Sworks Epic World Cup
Well after a long wait, my new bike has arrived, and all I can say is the wait was worth it !
Check out some of the pics of my new 2014 Specialized Sworks Epic World Cup !
I can't wait to get this baby dirty over the Christmas break. Keep a look out, and you may see me riding past !
Thanks to Peter and the amazing team at Cyclery Northside and Specialized for getting the bike setup for me.
Now that I have the best marathon bike around there are no excuses for next years Absa Cape Epic - just need to sort out the engine now !
Thredbo Riding advise
Going to Thredbo for a few days early Jan. My thing is XC, any advise on XC rides in the area is welcome. I'd like to ride up to the top of Mt Kosciuszko and tick that off my bucket list - is that allowed? Would be a great climb from Thredbo if it is.
Cheers!
Next years marathon race dates
While planning what events I'm going to enter next year, I found it easier to make a list of all the NSW and ACT races in date order. I thought I'd post them up here to help others.
Marathonmtb also has a list of all the races but their list also includes races across the world so hopefully this list is a little simpler.
If I've missed any, let me know and I'll edit this post.

North side track conditions
The Eastern Suburbs got pelted with hard rain early on Sunday morning which left me thinking the same would have happened on the North side.
Looking at the track statuses it appears that there was nothing of note. Did you guys up North manage to avoid the rain?
WTB Easton Converter from 15mm to QR
A friend has some Easton EA90 (or EC90s) that they bought for a bike with a 15mm through axle. When it came it had some caps to make it QR compatible. The now want to put the wheels on another bike that has Quick release fork and they can't find these caps anywhere. Easton is between distributors in OZ at the moment so if anyone has these caps or knows where to get them please PM me.
Oaks status?
Planning on catching a train to Woodford and riding down the Oaks tomorrow morning. I've just read on fb the firetrail has just been graded. Does anyone know the area of affect?
Found..... Battery
Found a battery for a light set at the Dam this morning.
Let me know if you want it back.

Why a bike is better than a woman
So recently, I engaged in a discussion with a friend that indicated that he would have to spend some time with his girlfriend in the coming days as I needed to get out on my bike after a long study period. This resulted in the conversation inevitably turned to "You should get a girlfriend, mate." Seeing as a good portion of other 20yos are with girls, it was worth a good session to consider whether I should give up cycling and find one, but I discovered 28 reasons why this shouldn't be the case. Enjoy (and don't take it too seriously)!
carbon rotors - update?
i seem to remember some people here ordered carbon rotors off that kettle kickstarter campaign.
i wonder how they're going.
anyone willing to share their experience?
Ok, so who now has a branch thru their leg?
So.... A Wednesday cascades night ride ended badly for someone that one of you knows out there... They ended up in the ED with a stick 2 inches into their leg! As you do... Anyone care to shed any more light on the situation, or know how mr sticky is recovering?
Otherwise I hope everyone's injuries will be healed in time for Xmas (there seems to be a few going around of late).
And before @hawkeye says it... We will need photos...

New To Riding
Hey everyone just got a mountain bike and have just started riding. I was wondering if there were ever any group rides I might be able to tag along with. I have looked at the red hill trails and others and other and they look like mazes and I don't want to get lost. It would be really nice to ride and learn the trails with other bikers. I've done the Manly Dam ride three times (went from 1 hour down to 40 minutes already) now and while it's fun I think I may get bored of only riding that. So if anyone is riding and wouldn't mind a tag along I would love to come and ride and meet some people.
MTBa takes back control of the National Series
MTBA Takes Control of 2014 National Mountain Bike Series
Mountain Bike Australia announced today that the 2014 National Mountain Bike Series will be brought back under MTBA control and delivery. The recent re-structure of Cycling Australia’s (CA) Commercial and Events team means that the arrangement under which CA delivered the previous National Series is no longer a financially viable option.

Drivetrain maintenance
My bikes getting on a bit now and is getting a bit "loose".
I do maintain my own bike. Every 2-3 rides i take my cassette off and chain along with chain rings and give them a solid clean, i lube the chain every ride and all that yadayadayadaa....
I haven't done gear cables and outters on my bike yet and its probably due for it so my question is how hard are gear cables to do? What tools do i need and what cables must i go for, any tips or tricks.
Thanks fellas.
Jono.
riding with C7 fracture?
hi guys,
had a follow up call from the hospital today and it appears they've missed a little detail on the weekend..
it's called an 'undisplaced fracture of the C7 spinous process' ?
in my case they said everything was sitting exactly where it's supposed to be and i don't even have to wear a neck brace and should do gentle neck exercises and to just keep things easy until i feel better.
the question is.. at what point would one consider an easy ride on a fire trail a 'gentle neck exercise".
just wondering if anyone's been through this before and how long you've been off the bike.
Rotor diameters
I've just picked up a set of 2014 XT brakes from Pushy's in the ACT for a good price ($100 an end, sans rotors and brackets) and need to pick your brains on appropriate rotor sizes.
Currently the Scalpel 29r has 180F/160R with the Elixir 9s.
Will 180 be too much on the front with the XTs?
Planning an MTB road trip, early 2014. Looking for suggestions of where to go
I'm thinking of doing an MTB road trip from Sydney in early 2014, and trying to work out a list where to go and what trails to ride. I've probably got two full weeks to play with. I ride XC, AM, Trail type stuff and would consider doing longer rides, or overnighters too. I'm currently on my own, so would be happy to have a victim... er... fellow traveller or two. Thinking late january or thereabouts at the moment.
Some things on my wishlist would probably be;
Knee replacement
After putting up with the pain of damaged knees for the past few years and having just retorn all but one ligament and shredded what was left of the miniscus and articular cartilages, I'm going for knee replacement surgery and looks like it will be total knee replacement, but deciding if I can get away with the less radical surface replacement.
So the question is - anyone still riding MTB's after these types of surgery. Any recommendations/suggestions/information? Any and all info will be appreciated.
Avag,day
FOUND: Topeak computer
Found at Menai this afternoon.
Let me know if you or someone you know has lost one.
thank you Giro...
... for saving my brain.
this was a close call and i still can't believe i got away with nothing that wouldn't heal by itself.
The helmet was a giro Aeon if you're interested and i am thoroughly impressed by the way it spread the impact all the way around the helmet. especially as it's featherlight. will certainly be replacing with another Aeon.
big thank you to the Ambos from Picton for doing an excellent and speedy job. (will contact them elsewhere), and my mate Simon for doing all the right things.
