Shimano wide shoe stockist?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a new set of shoes and would like to get some Shimano SH-M088E to try on.
I've been to Cell bikes but they only stock the normal narrow fit.
Does anybody know a shop in Sydney that stocks a good range of the Shimano shoes in Wide?
Alternatively can anyone suggest a similarly priced/quality shoe in a wider fit of any brand?
Cheers...

Pads & full face helmet recommendations

I want to progress my jumps, drops, and ladders again, so I would like to finally get at least some knee and elbow pads and a full face helmet. What would you recommend? A reasonably priced and stocked Perth LBS would be great too.

Proposed Belrose Waste Management Site Bike Park - Biobanking Agreement

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey guys,

It appears that the Belrose Waste Management Facility has entered into a formal agreement with the Dept of Health &/or NPWS to provide 10Ha of land as part of a biobanking arrangement to offset the new Frenchs Forest Hospital destroying the endangered Duffys Forest vegetation on site.

Oxford Falls advice - Deep creek to Mona Vale road/Forest Way Supacentre

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey all,

It turns out that my office is moving from Frenchs Forest to Belrose, so I'm looking for some advice on the best trails to use to get from Narrabeen/Deep Creek to the Belrose Supacentre..

I'm hoping to stay off the road as much as possible.

I did some preliminary trail scouting but found myself climbing from deep creek to the Bahai temple hill.. other than the sweet Deep Creek single trail it was unpleasant (pushing my bike up rocky escarpments most of the way) and i'd prefer to avoid that one being my daily commute.

What happened to Stringybark Ridge?

Does anyone know what's happening at Stringybark Ridge? I went to an info day there ages ago and also filled an online survey. Haven't heard anything more since.

Trails Database gets some TLC (and more to come)

I'm not sure how much of this people will have noticed, but... thought it was about time to say a few words about our trails DB.

This started out as just a few words about local trails but after a quick glance at the page above you'll see it's grown into much more.

While this section of the site has been here for a long time, it's had a bit of TLC lately (and will get a bit more in the coming weeks & months).

There is a whole load of information here and it can be a bit daunting, so in general the changes are aimed at making it easy to find 'stuff I like'.

The changes so far have been:

  • Remove reliance on Google Maps in favour of Leaflet - looks great on mobile.
  • Nice little thumbnail maps on the 'At-a-glance' section for each trails area.
  • Introduction of a point of information (POI) content type. Instead of just listing facilities we can now pinpoint them on a map (with relevant icons of course).
  • Maps for individual areas can now show trails colour coded by difficulty (where authors have rated them), as well as those POIs.
  • As well as the Northern Beaches area overview map on the trails DB overview there's a new Trails Finder page that shows all the areas to ride on a map.
  • A little reminder message on all these content types: this is a site for the MTB community, and as trail info can often change, anyone is welcome to contribute with better information if they have it. You know - just like a wiki.
    • Well, that's for a start... there's more coming! Yes, a nerd's work is never done! Eye-wink

Calling Fox 32 FIT 100mm or 120mm owners

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi Guys

I've just picked up a set of second hand Fox FIT forks to replace my SIDs as they allow 650b wheels. The thing is I'm not sure if they're 100mm or 120mm forks, I got them cheap because the previous buyer thinks he bought the wrong length. I'd prefer 120 but am not fussed if they're 100.

Could I ask someone with either forks to measure the length of exposed stanchion between the bottom of the crown and the top of the seal? Mine are 116m so I'm not sure if they're 100mm travel that don't use all of the stanchion of if they're actually 120mm forks

You can do it in your own time. Evidence required e.g photos, garmin, map my ride, strava, signed stat dec Smiling etc

I can organise a jersey with "A Century of Manly Dam Night Laps" or similar for those who complete the challenge. Price to be determined.

Look forward to any comments or updates on progress.

Garmin 500 Barometric Altitude Accuracy?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I use a Garmin 500 to log my rides and have noticed today that I am getting some dubious altitude readings.

Today I got a 150m spike, up and back down again, in the first 200m of the ride log. Now I know I am good but even I couldn't ride that. I also did Bobbin Head Fire Trail down to the top of the steps, this was logged as being at -15m. I have gone back and checked past rides and last week it logged the same spot at -20m. The head unit had a software upgrade between these two readings

SMH article about Lane Cove

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/planned-cycle-paths-in...

Article about Lane Cove park, I think that it's on about a paved path rather than single track, but some may find it interesting.

What I found interesting was the part about Centenial Park. It would be great if they opened up the outer loop to mtb, there's plenty of people who ride it now but I don't think it's legal.

Is there a good iPhone app for a newbie like me?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've searched the App Store looking for an app that will map out the trails for me (I'm a sucker at getting lost), tell me where they are if I'm out and about somewhere in Nsw, and give me the status of the tail as well as information I.e how long it is, difficulty, average time etc etc.

Demoing a Specialized Epic

I'm trying to choose between an Anthem 29er and a Specialized Epic Comp 29er.. I won't ask the question of which I should go with since the internet is full of answers to that question.. But I've had the chance to demo an Anthem and am wondering if anyone knows of a bike shop that has an Epic that I could demo.

Thanks!

Looking for a Lake Parramatta Loop

If anyone can shoot me a good Lake Parramatta loop for tomorrow I'd really appreciate it. I rode out there last year but I'm sure I missed a lot of trails. I've got about 2 hours and I enjoy a bit of technical descending.

Any info greatly appreciated.
