Oxford falls
Hi all. Newby here. Went with the wife to do manly dam last Sunday and had an amazing time.
I am planning to do some of Oxford falls trails this Sunday 3rd nov. I am doing it alone this time. Just not sure about where some if the trails are so if anyone reading this is going too (you don't have to ride with me) but if you could point me in the right direction of the best rails if I look lost! I'm on an old giant rincon mango/black colour.
I used to hit everything in my teens and early twenties but now im 31 with 2 kids I don't have the balls I used to have!!

Gear cables
Looking to change the rear derailleur inner and outer cable. Can someone tell me the difference between the Deore and Xtr cable set and is it worth the difference in price?

Is there a noticeable difference with the more expensive ones as compared to say the cheap ones on ebay? At the moment I have Jagwire braided ones that were stock.

Australian Cyclists Party launched
Interesting article here, on Cycling Central.
Omar Khalifa, who previously headed up Bicycle NSW and resigned after his attempt to reform the organisation to make it more accountabke to members was blocked by the board, talks to Cycling Central.
During his tenure, BNSW was widely considered to be at its most effective in cycling advocacy.

600 members have joined in the first 2 weeks. Another 150 are needed to join by mid November to contest the 2015 NSW election.
POV Videos of tracks
Hi forum,
Just wondering if anyone has a link to a point of view or video of someone else riding the technical downhill trail in cascades?
On a more general note, is there a list of good youtube vids of ie manly dam and other trails around NSW that is worth watching? If not, perhaps this thread could start a list of good vids. I want to see how the pro's handle the tracks I ride and see how I can improve.
Cheers,
Kris

First Time Race Tips
Hey everyone,
Next sunday I am participating in my first ever race. "The Kings School MtB Classic", It's a 2 hour race with a partner, where you each do a lap and then that's your lap time.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips for a first-time racer including things to go over on my bike? I generally just like riding with my friends so I'm not too serious
Cheers
Chris
Thanks!
Went for a quick ride today at the Dam to check the race bike was ok ahead of the fling.
Lap 1 went well, 30:xx mins (including a bit of traffic).
Lap 2 was going well ... Until - the second creek crossing! Warning - there is a tree down on the left of the track, I cut it a bit close, the branches whipped my bars around. 11 stitches in my chin, 3 large grazes on my arm, and 1 front wheel so bent it won't turn within the forks! Walked the bike to Allambie heights and got home from there.
Shocking FOX kashima and new recalls
Well I'm wanting to gauge everyone's thoughts on what's going on with the FOX forks. I've encountered three other riders in the last month that have all had their kashima coating on their shocks wearing away. One 26" and 2 X 29" shocks. I thought this outer layer was supposed to be quite tough, but now I'm thinking my old alloy Fox shocks never had this issue and seemed to last for ever.(still lasting actually!)
Lake Woodford?
Blue Mtn locals,
I'm taking my son and mates to skateboard Glossop Rd at Lake Woodford tomorrow.
Fairly certain that there has been no fire activity in the last week, but don't want to travel from the beaches to find access blocked.
Any locals know whether or not the road is open at the moment?
Any info appreciated.
Cheers
MV Road Sniggle / Trail Care
Hawkeye and other trail care guys
As you have seen for yourself the singletrack that is there and being added to just off monavale rd is fantastic.
Some easier areas for the kids, plus some more technical stuff for those who are interested.
Given its location, proximity to st ives showground, and in basically a piece of land that was otherwise dissused, but a great terrain for building sniggle, this offers a prime area to continue to develop a nice little trail network.
How is this land managed ? Is there anything stopping further development of these trails ? i think a couple
POV McGarry's 2nd place run at rampage
We've all seen the canyon back flip but this go pro of the entire run shows just how ballsy, technical and exposed the rest of the run is

Pedal power= bushfire donations
Had a fleeting idea, to put it bluntly, these fires are just ridiculous and I for one am wondering what to do, as much as I'd like to don a suit and fight fires it probably wouldn't help having an untrained wannabe run about, then my thoughts turned to nobmob, this is fairly large community and I then thought about organising a charity ride, then again remembered I have no experience in this and what with the current conditions it wouldn't make much sense to have large groups in the bush.
So I finally concluded that we could all self regulate donations between us, and the genius sum?
Saddle Bags
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a saddle bag that is durable, doesn't move around a lot and an fit a spare tube, multi tool, tyre levers, co2 canister and valve in it but is not massive?
Frayed shifter outers
So my bike is not even 2 months old yet and whilst cleaning it today i noticed that the shifter outer housing is fraying.
It looks like the plastic ferrule has broken and the outer is slowly peeling back with about a third to half of the strands hanging out.
Is this something i should just call wear and tear and fix it myself or is this something i should take back to the LBS for under warranty?
The bike has never been in an accident so i am surprised to see something failing so quickly :/
Help with the right tyre choice
Hi Guys,
Havent posted for a while but have been doing heaps of riding.
Im doing the Anaconda again this year and just have a few questions with regard to tyres. Ive got a Trance X1 and am still running the Nobby Nics that it came with. I have found them to be a pretty good tyre and havent lost the front end yet.
The ride leg of the anaconda isnt very technical compared to other ride legs and has a lot of open trail and gravel roads so i probably dont need such an aggresive tyre.
What's a reasonable distance to get out of a XC fork?
What do you think is a reasonable to distance to get from a suspension fork? How many K's do you have to do before you think you've done enough to justify buying a new one? Only interested in XC forks, 100 to 120 mm. I'm not particularly interested in how long your forks lasted or how the ones you bought back in 1989 are still going strong. Down-hillers can skip this thread.
Sydney trails overlayed on google maps.
https://mapsengine.google.com/map/embed?mid=zBN7...
I made this for personal use because I was tired of checking for trails to only find out they are well over an hour away. After making it I figured someone else might find it useful. This has the name, nobmob link, and meeting point from the trails in the northern beaches, blue mountains, and sydney north, south, and west. Some trails are not listed because they lack a meeting point or something else.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if any the information on this map is not correct.
Back Protectors
So while I am sitting here recovering from a broken rib, posteriorly right next to my spine, I'm thinking I might invest in a spine protector before I get back on the bike.
So I am after the XC crew's thoughts on them, good/bad/worthwhile/waste of time?
Cheers
