In 2013, the Brownie Points Burner will be raced on Sunday the 25th of August. Yes we tried a 2 day event there previously and its bombed, but so do the trails. Evil climbs and epic descents plus the much mentioned Taree Tip Riders Trails.

We hope you've been saving your brownie points lately, because this is one marathon race you don't want to miss.

Just Beautiful

Standing on one of the many causeways, I felt this view needed to be captured.

Nepean River View

This is an amazing view, the only thing that ruins it is the quarry on the other side.

The Gate

At the end of Riverview Rd you will find this gate which is the start off the trail so to speak. The Pavement only runs to top of the hill. A key Note to remember is for the return trip. Allot off speed can be gained coming back down and the last thing you want to be doing here is a superman impersonation.

Mt York, all of it

that was a lot more than expected.

I figured it might be long, it wasn't as long as thought, but plenty long enough.

9am to 5pm is a long day in the saddle.
28kms, two descents, two ascents.

Up Lockyers when you wanted to be up Lawsons was a tad bumma.
But down Lawsons was fun and it eased the hurt.

Sniggling a trail along Lockyers and being too close to see the trail made me go wide on a rock which put me in the loose stuff on the next corner which had me face down in the trail going hmmm.

Hillfest + 4 gates = Fun

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Slight change of plan for this ride. Instead of doing laps of 4 gates we decided to hit the Northern Beaches Hillfest circuit and put in a lap or two at the end if possible. I knew this would come in around 45Km and 1300 vertical plus a single 4 gates say, would be around 1700 vertical and 60km but it came up slightly less somehow - I blame Garmin Connect - it's vertical calcs are a little off and doesn't show altitude half the time Sad

Come along and ride the 4 gates. And again... And again... And again...

Plan on doing this until my legs don't work any more, come along for a few gates, won't hold anyone to any particular number Eye-wink

As discussed before, I can't go for an epic or anything too early on Sat so propose a few hills for some fun...

Meet at Terrey Hills shops then ride Centre (yes, backwards), Waratah, Towlers Bay, Elvina, up (yes, backwards) Duck Hole and back to shops.

I can't be bothered to work it out, but should be under 40 clicks and take 3 hours or so. These are some nice hills (esp. Towlers and Elvina) so be prepared. Sadly there is some black stuff to join them up... but... meh!

Hill training, Best Locations?

Hi,

I've just started a training program to get me fit for the Karopoti (50km) and Colville Connection (72km) both in March. Program is mixed between Road and Mtb sessions. As part of the Mtb training I need to do some hill climbing training to improve technigue and build strength, what are the best places to go for this?

Cheers,
Jay
