Towlers Bay
At a Glance
Short-ish (9K?) out and back style ride down some steep firetrail, along the water's edge and back up.
Towlers Bay car park - West Head road.
The trails along West Head road are pretty similar and typified by firetrail from the road and steep descents to the water below.
Park up at the car park on the right hand side as you head up West Head Road. From here, head out on fire trail which will gently undulate until you come to the descent (you'll know when that is!). Towards the bottom of the descent there's a right hand turn, forget that and go straight on where the firetrail will peter out and become a grassy path. Keep on going right down to the water's edge where there's a disused holiday home complete with (empty) pool and remains of a wharf.
Then, back up the path a little, bearing left staying parallel with the water and hopefully coming out near another wharf which is in a better state. From that wharf carry on along the water and begin to climb. Circle back round to your right and climb some more. Hopefully you'll now come to that right turn that was passed on the descent, so turn left to get back up to West Head Road.
Recount the fun of the downhill as you grind up this trail. Take a well earned break near the top for a great view of the bay.
