Complete bike or frame and build from OS

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Has anyone done the maths on wether to just but the frame in Aus and get al the other parts from overseas i.e Chain Reaction etc.
I do not understand how the LBS can charge an extra $1300 from SLX group set to XT on a complete built when I can get this for all the parts closer to $900 not including wheels, headset. So taking into account the original cost of the SLX group set and then add the extra dollars for the upgrade. Is it worth the extra say $2000 than getting this in OS and getting someone to build it up?
Anyone help or comments appreciated.

Have you ever helped maintain the tracks you ride on? Here's a chance to help improve the tracks at Yellomundee Regional Park in conjunction with WSMTB Club. Saturday 25 May from 8.30am, followed by a BBQ lunch (by WSMTB).

We will be doing erosion control work to make the tacks more sustainable - so bring shovels, wheelbarrows, etc - and a ute or two would be great! Wear trousers and boots.

All welcome. Keep an eye on the WSMTB Facebook page for any last minute updates.

New Toy

Newbie to the site, loving the rides and maps, great forum community....

I was a MTB mad teenager and have since got back into it, my 8 year old can, to my surprise handle some rough rides. We've been spending time at the Hornsby track last few weekends and loving that.

Anyway I thought I needed a full suspension bike but struggled to find a bike big enough for my 201cm height.

Got this recently (hopefully photo loaded below), it's having a service this week, hopefully a good purchase, no big bills........

Looking forward to trying it this weekend !

Specialized vs BMW

I've often read the stories on here about incidents involving cars but I've been lucky enough to stay out of trouble.....until this morning! I was heading along William Street towards the city in the bike lane and as I'm sure most of you will know, the downhill run from Kings Cross and the heavy morning traffic means that you are normally travelling at a similar pace to the cars.

661 elbow/knee gear in shops?

Hey

Looking for recommendations for shops that have stock of 661 gear. I've not run elbow and knee protection before, sick of bark coming off! So I'm in 2 minds about whether to get the sleeve type (rhythm, veggie) or the bulkier Rage, Evo.

I've been to a few shops around newie, where I live and the central coast but no one has much to try on. I disliked the riot elbow gear, too restricting.

I'd rather buy stuff locally than go online, any recommendations for shops, looks like I'm going to have to go to Sydney, would be tops.

Cheers

[Mod. moved to shopping]
