rear shock swapping from Fox RP2 to Fox RP23

Hi there,

I'm mainly riding fire tracks on a Giant trance X1 fitted with a rear Fox RP2 shock and I'm thinking upgrading this rear shock with a Fox RP23.
Beside the fact that this operation would lighten my wallet for about $500, I would like to know if I would get a significant benefit from this upgrade.

Thanks in advance for your comments.
Cheers

Hybrid of last two posts - Non-road bike, fast commuter, off road capable, geared or single speed, complete bike, 29er.

I'm after the best of every world to get me commuting to work during the nice summer months. I'm travelling bondi to homebush, which is a bit of a treck when i'm not used to riding on road, so i'm after something that will inspire me.

As the title says, I'm not keen on a road bike (too much lycra required), but do want something light and responsive. Rigid probably. I'd like it to be tough enough to take off road.

I'd like the option of going singlespeed, although initially i think i'd go for gears.

I don't want the hassle of building it myself so it'd need to be a full bike.

Deal Extreme Torches

Someone was recently asking about DIY lights, cheaper options than Ay-Up, etc, etc.

Well - if you can't build your own but want that cheaper option there are various Cree powered torches floating around at very reasonable prices. There's an interesting post on MTBR about Deal Extreme gear for example:

Although DX appears to have some quality issues you cannot argue with their prices.

The TR-801 can be had with a Q5 Cree ($17.52):

Anyone keen for this on sunday (28th, this weekend). Does anyone know if any racing is due for that Sunday because this is just purely to scope it out and I wouldnt want to be in the way of racers. If people are keen ill lock in a ride meeting. Either way, the old man and I are gonna go check it out as we've never ridden there before. Im sure the trusty rides section of this site will help us out.

Ride Database Entry:
Great Northern Road
Meeting Point:

Wisemans Ferry - by the East ferry crossing (turn right bottom of the hill). There is a good parking area by the kiosk here.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

A long ride in preparation for the Southern Highland Fling leaving 2 weeks to recover before the Scott 24 hour. I had in mind a 70 to 80k ride starting at wisemans ferry then up the sandy hill and continuing 35k along Gt Northern Road. Then turn back and go down Shepherds Gully and finish ourselves of on the 8k road back to the ferry.

This is a training ride so minimal stops but the pace will not be race pace. A moderate pace to average about 15kms / hour is ideal.

Bring heaps of food and water and a spare tube and everything else required for big a day out.

epic for sale,, maybe!

toying with the idea of upgrading my specialized epic but as its heavilly upgraded i dont know its true second hand value. Its an 07 epic comp thats only been used for racing in the last year as i have an enduro for general trail riding. Its got bontrager carbon bars and stem, juicy ultimates ( used twice ) noir carbon cranks ( used about 6 times ) carbon seat post and ti railed seat. X0 grip shift and rear derailer. Not ridden since front and rear shock service and rear pivot bearings replaced. Estimated cost if new would be around 6 grand plus. I have no idea how much to ask for it.
