Appin update for 01 Nov
From WMBC...
APPIN MOUNTAIN BIKE TRACKS
The Wollongong Mountain Bike Club was formally advised this week of the outcome of the latest Board Meeting of the Tharawal Land Council. The news was not good. The Council has informed us that they will not allow us to use their land for Mountain Biking. This follows weeks of lobbying and attempts to make presentations to the Council. In the end the outcome rested on a single letter that we were allowed to present putting forward our case.
This is a devastating result and one that will affect hundreds of people from the Mountain Biking Community.
The Land Council stated when asked for the reasoning behind their decision....
“This decision was reached with concerns as to the impact on the environment of the land and impact on the cultural heritage of the land.”
When asked whether this affected all bike riding on the land?
“It is private land, therefore, like anyone else's private property, any access without authorisation is considered trespassing.”
The Wollongong Mountain Bike Club will continue to lobby for access to the land in an attempt to persuade the Council that MTB is not only a positive healthy pursuit, but that it can be done in a sustainable and environmentally friendly fashion. The benefits of MTB in the area spread well beyond just the physical benefit to the participants, but the presence of MTB’ers in the area has also reduced the impact of motor bikes, 4 wheel drives, dumping and other less desirable pursuits that have carried on in the area prior to WMBC setting up a track there.
Unfortunately they may be mistaking us for Motor bikes or Four Wheel drives, both of which have caused significant damage in this and other areas.
We, as Mountain Bikers embrace the natural and unspoilt settings that we ride in. Our aim is to retain the environmental and cultural value of the land.
Should anyone have connections or influence with the Land Council please don’t hesitate to make contact with them to try and convince them of our motives. Any contact with the Council must be made in a civil and constructive manner in order to benefit the MTB cause. Copies of any correspondence sent to the Council should be copied to us to help our lobbying efforts.
We are now searching for a suitable site to build another track. Any suggestions here would be helpful..................

Halloween Ride
A good fun ride the old Full Moon Ride. Except the Moon didnt come out until 9pm... And i was having a beer and a schnitzel by then.
And the track was a giant sand pit... Im sure i heard some one say they hadnt ridden in so much sand since they were on a beach in Byron Bay with Jennifer Hawkins..."
Actually it was a surreal ride - thanks to what was left after back burning got a little out of hand... Everything - burnt. Badly.
But what did come out was a bunch of weird things...
A scary lefty...

Raceprep Highland Fling Final Video
We've just posted the 5th video with tips on final preparations for the Highland Fling, featuring Jenny Fay and Anthony Shippard. This video also includes a brief interview with Huw Kingston about new additions to the course for 2012.

Bring on the Fling
My last fast ride before the Highland Fling in a week and a half. I did a warm up lap to check out the conditions then a fast one. Starting from the parkway seems to make the lap a bit easier.

Lane Cove National Park update for 31 Oct
Rode (and walked) from Ryde Rd through to Kissing Point Rd today and it's all pretty good. The rocky bit after the hike-a-bike section is getting pretty sketchy, but probably quite enjoyable for those who like their riding a bit more techy than I do these days. The rest is dry and in pretty good nick. Two walkers and one mtb rider out there today (well actually two if I count myself....)

North Turramurra update for 31 Oct
Rode the North Turra sniggle today and it is in fair nick. It flows nicely and a little bit of track work has been done, but there is one fallen tree that maybe Craig Gordon could ride under, but for me it's a dismount. Another fallen tree just near the creek crossing has a couple of "B" lines developed around it which are getting a bit messy. The creek crossing has had some work that makes it look a bit more stable (and rideable).
The fire trail from Macrae Pl to Golden Jubilee is in pretty good nick, the Jubes mini XC track is still fun downhill but a slog back up, the techy loop out the back of it is well signposted and fenced as "not for bikes". The hills between Jubes and the Grosvenor Track are not getting any easier (and in fact are a bit loose in places). Grosvenor Track has a nice traffic line all the way out to the turn around. Lovers Jump Ck track is fine apart from the usual issues of the rocky creek crossing and the stairs. The usual quagmire at the bottom of the stairs is dry! Never seen it like that before. Maybe somebody fixed a leaking pipe??

X Fusion vs Fox Triad rear shock
Hi all,
Looking at swapping my X Fusion O2 RLA rear shock on my Spesh FSR XC to a Fox Triad shock. Just wondering if anyone has made this change and what people's opinions are of the Fox Triad.
Thanks
