Manly Dam update for 04 Jun
Good morning mountain bikers,The Bike Track is currently CLOSED due to wet conditions following the weekend’s rain.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that any and every change to the track status will be communicated via Council's twitter account: @mywarringah and posted on Council’s website at www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/community/mountainbikin... (If there has been no update, it means that there has been no change to the track status).
As it is envisaged that this email notification service will be discontinued later this year, we strongly encourage track users to become familiar with one, or both, of the above means of determining the track status.
Kind regards,
Manly Dam Rangers

Three Ring Circus 2012
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
4Km SW of Wingello village on Caoura Rd there's a small base camp within the forest - seems as good a place as any.
Looking forward to this one. Last year was perfect weather - cold on the start line and just right once going. See you there!

MTB political party?
Following the very divisive deal done between the Liberal state government & Shooters n Fishers Party which has allowed permitted shooters feral hunting in National Parks, whilst us MTBr's are at early tentative steps in securing singletrack in NP's(apart from Glenrock & the Royal) do we take a next step?.Yes we have organisations who are working with NPWS on such programs(GTA & Trailcare) hoping to achieve this, but is it enough?.Do we try & form a political party to represent us?

Red Hill update for 02 Jun

Appin update for 02 Jun
This weekends XC Club race has been cancelled. This has been at the request of the Traditional Owners of the land, the Dharawal Land Council, to not to use the land. This covers 80% of the track. We are in negotiations with the Council over this matter. If you could send a letter of support for the MTB cause highlighting the value of the land for recreational use with minimal environmental impact this would be most appreciated. to: [email protected]
Regards
WMBC Committee
Thanks for all the responses we got to the news regarding the ban on the Appin track use!
Some positive things have happened since then and the Committe has had a positive meeting with the Dharawal Land Council. We are hoping that our usage will be restored in the not to distant future. What must occur in the interrim is an environmental assesment needs to be completed. The club is assisting the council in getting this done. In the meantime please do not contact the Land Council, they have been inundated with calls from concerned mountain bikers and it will not help us to block their normal business operations. If you have an opinion on the matter we would still like your emails as we can accumulate them and add them to our proposal for use of the land.
This weekend we will be conducting a clean up of the area. There has been a proliferation of signs and tape going up recently with the extension of the trails and running of races. We need to remove all the tape, signage and any litter from the area. So anyone up that way please carry a plastic bag and take out any rubbish you see. If we show we respect the environment and can establish and maintain low impact trails we are sure to secure the ongoing use of an awesome riding spot.
WMBC Committee
There is no signage on the trails. If you aren't familiar with the area or the trails they might be best left alone until the current issue is resolved. Any assistance by way of sending emails to the Wollongong MTB Club will be appreciated.

The Kowalski Classic
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
The Ride Canberra site describes the main forest entrance as being the corner of Kowan Road and Sutton Roads. There is a parking area 5km into the forest along Kowan road with gates that may be locked. Call Canberra Connect (13 22 81) for the combinations or ride from Sutton Road for a warm up.
What is The Kowalski Classic?
For nigh on two decades, local trail building legends Paul Cole, Alan Anderson and the mysterious Kowalski Brothers have been hand-crafting trails in the ACT region. Thanks to their dirty work, Sparrow Hill and East Kowen Forest have become single track nirvana. The innuagural Kowalski Classic gives you the chance to race it all in one hit. Ride the Bird, then the Kow, then the Bird, then the Kow!
The Kowalski Classic is the ultimate single track enduro with two race distances taking in the very best trails in Sparrow Hill and East Kowen.

Manly Dam update for 02 Jun
The dam was quite sludgy and damp this morning before the rain came in, and there are definitely going to be wet sections which, if ridden around, will lead to increased trail widening and fall line erosion.
Take a protective approach to the trails if you're heading out for a lap in the next few days.
The Allambie side is very wet, Seaforth is as good as ever.
