Take, buy or hire? - Traveling with a bike and kids
I'm off to the UK for 3 weeks with the family in June/July and I want to keep riding whilst I'm there. There's also 'some bike race' in July that practically goes past my mum's front door
My options are:
Take my own
Pros: It's my bike
Cons: Juggling with other luggage, 2 kids, Central London and travel up to Yorkshire. Need to bag it or box it.
Anyone got any tips?
Hire one for 3 weeks
Cons: Expensive for a piece of shit spec bike
Pros: I hand it back (hopefully in one piece)
Buy one on eBay
Cons: Left with a bike to move on
Simple upgrades to make for a first time racer?
Hello everyone!
A few friends and I from high school (NHSPA) are going to enter the first XC race my school has ever seen. Being my first (and my peers) race, I was hoping if anyone know's any small but effective/budget friendly upgrades to make to a bike in order to make it more race applicable? I own a 2011 spesh hardrock with 80mm of travel and we will be racing for the intermediate class mid june at yellomundee.
If there is anything extra someone would like to add, maybe about race nutrition, preparation or tactics - please feel free to share!
Cheers

Baby on bike
Folks,
has anyone ever tried to put a 17months boy on a bike ? and which bike ?
Mine is really into wheels and I wanted him to learn the balance... I've read positive feedback on striders but not sure if they are the best/safety for them.
Cheers

Mythical Beasts
Only been riding for a couple of years myself so not that aware of the history of the sport. Came across a magazine "History of Mountain Biking" and found some great articles. One article, "Mythical Beasts" writes how a few Americans started the craze only 40 years ago. By the look of the photos of the bikes and gear they wore compared to today's technology and gear, wow, MTB has come a long way. These pioneers are still riding and going strong, what a buzz it must be to have seen such an exciting and pleasurable sport develop into an international phenomenon.
Cyclists to be licenced
Now I know this is a Mountain Bike forum, however, a few of us also do a bit of road riding, so for those of you worried about bike accidents on our roads, the Minister has the answer:
"Licences for cyclists should be considered as a way to combat traffic collisions, the NSW Roads Minister has said."
and furthermore:
"Mr Gay said he would consider banning cyclists from certain roads in the name of safety." Might have to rethink your daily commute?
I got a bit bored so I created my own cyclist meme
There is so much cyclist hate and anti-cyclist memes I thought I would create a pro cyclist meme for shits and giggles. Thoughts?
New MTB'er
Hello all,
Just wanting to say hi and introduce myself. Been following this forum since Christmas and signed up today. Came back to cycling about 6 months ago after being off the bike for 10 years. The old road bike isn't as comfortable anymore so have been looking to give mtb ago and get away from the cars. So I did the specialized test day at OMV (thanks to spotting the post on here), what an introduction to mtb

NobMob website/trail list suggestion
Gday,
I find this site really useful, in fact I rarely visit other Australian mountain bike sites. I find the always updated trail status' around my area useful, I would not have even known about some around me without the help from this site.
