Where to ride on the North East Coast
Hey Everyone - I'm coming to Australia in late Aug 2010 and need to get some input on where to go. I want to be near a beach and near good mtn bike riding. I'll also need to hire a couple decent bikes for me and my girlfriend. Because it's in the fall, I'm thinking of going to the Barrier Reef area- do you call this North East Coast? Anyway, any ideas on a good place to go, with warm weather in August/September, where I can hire a decent bike and do some fun rides? I'm on a budget, but have been given a timeshare week, so hopefully that will cover my hotel expenses.
A Big Thanks
I know it's been said a few times inside various threads, but I wanted to say a BIG thanks to Rob, Hawkeye and everyone who actively got involved in campaigning for the re-opening of the Dam and it's successful outcome.
More importantly, without the very existence of this site I'm not sure if we would have had the same outcome, so thank to all those who actively participate maintaining the site.
Some forums can be full of over opinionated, uninformed users but here I think there is great attitude that encapsulates the spirit of mountain biking in many ways.
Protest ride cancelled...
By me at least!
I am waiting for the Inspector to call me back so that I can officially withdraw our application for the protest.
I really feel that organising a mass ride around the dam will not be a benefit to us and will just irritate the residents.
The Inspector feels this would be ‘negative publicity’ and work against us in the long run.
Greetings
Hello Chaps (and chapesses)
Just another new rider who has recently dropped into the area. I'm originally from the the UK but moved out here just under a year ago with my (now) wife. Back home I used to do a fair amount of riding both on and off the road and the time has now come to get some off road miles under my belt again.
I'm definitely of the opinion that riding should be a social experience so I'm looking for some people to ride and generally have some fun with. Anyone keen to show a keen (if little unfit) 30 something Pom the best trails that Sydney has to offer?
Lost my nerve
I'm a newbie - very green to all this but had been enjoying it immensely. Before Christmas I came off and landed on my head going quite quick(for me) down one of the hills on the Terry Hills trail. I got a bit banged up, broke a finger and had a lump the size of an egg next to my eye. The subsequent black eye at work created quite a few comments as well! (the finger is still very sore).
Puddles... Ride through them? or around?

watch the guy top left corner.
ha
Personally I like to ride through puddles (on a rainy day) but yet to find myself in THAT situation.
Maybe we shouldn't wear helmets.....

What a stupid article. Fails to mention the fact that the reason there are less accidents with more bike users is specifically because there are more bike users and better acceptance with other traffic.
Any article that recommends not wearing a helmet, even just to ride the shops and back is frankly irresponsible. While were at it, anyone see this:

Hi, I have just arrived in Australia and I'm living in Sydney (Dee Why). I have done adventure races in Brazil for 4 years (expedition including). but I don't ride a bycicle a year ago. I want to buy a bycicle and start the training. And I would like to find some group to train.
If you could help me I will be grateful.
Fernanda
Back on the bike - yeeeehaaah
After a 7 month absence, I'm now officially back on the bike !
So far only road commuting but hopefully some light offroad around March ( hopefully in time to train for Dirtworks...)
The ride in this morning felt great although my fitness is seriously below par. The sessions on the trainer have certainly helped though as I wasn't quite as bad as I though I might be.
