For extra special trips away... longer than a day trip at least. Anything else - please post in weekly rides. So, if you're planning something a little bit out of the ordinary then let's hear about it.

Another riding holiday - Canberra or Melbourne

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm thinking of doing a short mountain biking holiday; the candidates so far are Canberra and Melbourne.

Canberra has lots of good trails very close by. I could probably spend most of a week exploring, if only there was something to entertain me for the time that I wasn't riding!

I'd also like to do Melbourne - there's lots of non-MTB stuff to do - but I can't find much info on trails in the area. There's Lysterfield Park, and - well, lots of gravel paths 'suitable for mountain bikes', according to the government websites. I don't know if Melbourne has anything that's even worth riding.

Massive Northern Beaches Ride - TIME!! : Sat 14th April 8:00 a.m.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Greetings!

One ride I have always wanted to do is connect all of the main Northern Beaches trails together to form a massive link - and ride them all in one day. It would be MASSIVE! The ride would go something like:

- Park at Narrabeen Lake
- Do a Narrabeen Lake lap
- Deep Creek trail
- Oxford Falls (east side)
- Red Hill (if we can fit this in somehow - possibly through the Institute of Sport?)
- Oxford Falls (west side)
- Terrey Hills (Perimeter Trail and Long Trail)
- Then backtrack all the way back to the cars at Narrabeen Lake

The order I have set these up may be wrong (I haven't done this before!), but I am sure you get the gist of it. I may defer to someone else on this that has linked these rides up before. So what would this ride take, about 4 to 5 hours? 60km? Easy!! Smiling Remember, it would be more downhill than up on the way back! Smiling

Night Ride - Tuedsay 6th Feb - Terrey Hills

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,

Continuing with the current fashionable night rides I thought I should post one for Tuesday night 6th hitting the trails at 7:30pm.

There are showers forecast but i am ok to ride if it is light or patchy. Anyway it will no doubt be cloudy so lights will probably be be required, no moon in other words.

Can ride either the long track to the look out (22Km) or duckponds/center track (12Km) but will meet at Terrey Hills shops 7pm for 7:30 ride off.

If you havent done a night ride, its good fun and we ride the fire trails.
Dont be too scared about not having lights like electric sunshine as most of the respectable brands are adequate when it comes down to it. Make sure the batteries are fresh and up to a 2 hour ride.

Canberra weekend away to ride!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there,
I thought I'd take the bull by the horns and sort some things out for myself. I know I don't know anyone here yet but this seemed like a good way to meet people and combine the kind of rides I know I can do! Is anyone interested in doing a weekend away in Canberra to ride in Majura, Sparrow Hill or Stromlo? A whole weekend is plenty of time to fit in quite a few different sites. And with the hot weather at the moment, the idea of riding in the cool pine forests is very attractive.

I was thinking of a weekend late in Feb or early in March if others are keen but I don't have any date set in my mind. Make a suggestion! I will probably head down there on a Friday night to get started early on Sat morning to make the most of it and head back Sunday afternoon, not too late. I have camping gear so could either do the whole nature thing or pamper my soreness after the ride with a motel/hotel.

A riding holiday I was thinking about

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all,

Based on some of the good chat I hear from other riders about MTB riding tours in the snowies, I decided to spent some time researching MTB riding holidays. So far, Thredbo seemed to be the most professional looking outfit with their 'Cannonball Run' downhill course, plus some other dedicated XC trails. You would definitely want to do a bit of everything.

Some handy info I located was here:

http://www.thredbo.com.au/thingstodo/summer/acti...

and here:

http://www.rawnrg.com.au/rawnrg.net/default.aspx

From my reading, the cost for a few days away would be pretty competitive with any other holiday you would go on, on a day-by-day basis. I estimate that this would be between $500 to $1,000 for at least a few days away - cheaper if you have been there before.

Things to try to get along to, domestic situation allowing:

STXC at homebush Saturday: http://www.nswmtb.asn.au/index.php?option=com_co...
Using the 4X track and some extra!

Trials at Arcadia on Sunday:
http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?...
For some "how the f*ck did he do that" type action! There's even a beginners section that promises no need to hop or stand.

Will be trying to make at least the STXC on Saturday.

Also NSWMTB has a great calendar which you can check out to see what's on in coming months:

Ourimbah State Forest Sat 13th Jan 2007

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Well after the success of Stuarts Oaks ride I am hitting up Ourimbah state forest.

Where: Red Hill Rd Ourimbah State Forest
When: 8:30am Sat 13th Jan
Directions: http://www.ccomtb.org.au/more_information6.htm (See "Where are we?" picture)

Planning on riding the XC race course several times. One lap is approx 7km and varies from firetrail to tight twisting single trail. One lap should take from 30 to 45 mins.

A medium level of fitness is required to do this ride and the course is aimed at the intermediate to advanced riders. Beginner riders dont be discouraged you should be able to ride plenty of the course. It is much like the latter portion of the Oaks single track....(please correct me if I am wrong).
