Husky 50km vs Convict 50km

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I did the Convict 50km last weekend (loved it) and will be doing the Husky 50 end of June. Can anyone tell me what I can expect in comparison to the Convict? Hopefully when I get a few more of these under my belt, I won't have to keep asking for everyones advice.....

LED Lights

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm looking seriously at lights, and my dream would be a set of K-Lites. http://www.klite.com.au/ But at $729 for a set, that won't happen too soon.

On the other end of the spectrum is the following (which includes free shipping). A work mate ordered some LED torches through this website & has been really happy with them.

What kind of experiences have you guys had with cheap/expensive lights? If a $39 light lasted through winter, then blew up, I'd still be happy!

UNITY - XC FR DH DJ AM

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

All

I'm noticing a few comments that are not constructive to the overall riding cause.

Whatever discipline we are all in this together.

When I started advocacy with NP's 4 years ago I rode 80% DH or FR. So did a very large proportion of other contributers. XC was after dark on weekdays to keep fit enough for gravity.

We knew full well we were unlikely to get DH in NP's, which is what many of us rode, but knew that by swinging NPWS as far as we could (XC and AM) everyone would benefit when we consider the doors this policy change opens up on less sensitive land tenures.

Garmin mount alternative

Saw this little beauty called the barfly. It seems like a great idea to get the edge off the stem/bar and out in front.
Not so good on a mtb but would be fantastic on the roadie. Evil

Writing letters to politicians and newspapers

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All, just wanted to broach a little issue that came up today when talking to The Manly Daily about our recent brouhaha with Rosemary Loughnane and the other NIMBYs, and to make some suggestions.

It appears that at least one person has taken the sample letter that I posted regarding the MD article and copy-pasted it to their email client and sent it off.

While I'm flattered that you think it was so good Sticking out tongue - and I and everyone else definitely appreciates your support Smiling - some thought needs to be applied to how doing that might be received.

Someone has been working on Killingworth trails

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I live at Killingworth and used to ride the trails here years ago. I have not ridden my MTB out here for several years until this morning. Someone has been replacing the sagging/dangerous wire mesh bridges with new wooden ones, and some bog holes have been filled with rocks/logs to make them ridable again. Whoever is doing the work I thank you, because the trails are ridable and fun again. The trails are still dry weather only though, and the usual 4WD and trail bike damage still remains. Keep up the good work.

Lost wedding Ring at Stromlo

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi all, I lost my wedding ring last Saturday (05 May) while riding Mt Stromlo. I think it happened when I removed my gloves in the car park. I have had a good look around but it's nowhere near where we were parked. Obviously it has great sentimental value so if anyone picked it up please please get in touch with me. It is a tungsten carbide ring with a pattern of notches along each edge (see picture). Thanks.

Forestville Park PoM

Hey guys,

An FYI that Warringah council has released a Draft Plan of Management for Forestville Park. This is an area of bushland and playing fields at the end of Currie Road, Forestville. It's a critical link for the Bantry Bay trails if they go ahead.

I want to build up a resource database. I hear people make quotes from documents and I often would like to know where they come from, Some examples "Mountain Bikes are sold more than Road bikes" and "There are more middle aged men Riding bikes than there is playing Golf"

If you have Advocay Links bookmarked away or know of other resources, please share.

So far all I really have is the following

NZ Herald - Bikes bring more money than wood from Rotorua forest

Just thought that I'd post an update on my latest creation.

Since building the 29er HT my 26" Ht has been a bit neglected so with the current weather being crap I thought about making it into something along the lines of a fast urban cruiser.

surly bush comuter

Just sharing my build of a bush commuter

surly pacer (real steel)

changes from standard = MTB cluster (36tooth bail outs)
SLX derailer to allow for the big cogs.

double wrap bars (for comfort over the gravel)

33mm CX tires by Maxis

spds for ease of bike swaps.

I will use this for commutes from up the hiils to Midland way along the bridal trail and other fire roads. Plus road time on the flat.

I rides real well with plenty of give in the frame for the bumps. The weight is high though by it'll be pretty bomb proof.

Adaptrac - adjust tyre pressure on the fly

Just spotted this on Gizmodo. Interesting way of adjusting tyre pressures while riding, could probably be simplified to adjust shock pressures on-the-fly too.

Local downhill tracks Orange Bathurst Lithgow?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi all!
Keen to get back into downhilling, I live in Bathurst and was wondering if Orange or Lithgow have any legal tracks to ride and whether there are any races held there? I had a search but didn't turn up much, not a good sign!

Thanks!

What happened to Avid Juicy brakes?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all; long time no see...

Was hoping someone could help me out...

I have a 2008 Giant Reign 1 any my Juicy 3 brakes have kicked the bucket. Went to buy a new pair online and get the impression Juicy's aren't made anymore? Am I right assuming they have been replaced by Elixir range? Will Elixirs go onto my fork and frame okay? Can I use all the spare Juicy brake pads I have in my garage in the Elixirs? Will Elixir rotor go straight onto my wheel? I'm a bit concerned that my Juicy's are apparently 6 inch rotors (152 mm) and looks like Elixirs are sold as 160 mm...

Alloy jockey wheels

Hi all,

Has anyone tried either of these alloy jockey wheels

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rear-Jockey-Wheel-Der...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bi-King-Amita-11T-Cer...

The first one claims to have some float which would be good on the top wheel. Any other suggestions for good jockey wheels?

Thanks

Sram and general help

Hi everyone, i've got a few maintenance related questions. I've taken the rear cassette off and i've noticed that theres markings on the hub, im sure its normal but i wasn't sure so i took a few photos.

Im also trying to take my sram crankset off and im not sure how to do it. I noticed theres a hex screw witch im assuming it is but theres also 4 pin holes which i suspect might also be related.

Thanks for the help!

Jono.

Great Blue Mountains Trail: Upper Mountains Component

An interesting read for those that don't know about it: the feasibility study for the Great Blue Mountains Trail: Upper Mountains Component, dated Feb 2010. This is a shared use walking/cycling trail between Leura and Mt York.

Unfortunately it's not a mountain bike single-track or nature walk, but more like a tourist walk/commuter track. Still, would be a great thing to have anyway.

http://www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/yourcouncil/policiesp...
It under "G", for "Great Blue Mountains Trail (GBMT) Feasibility Assessment". Look on the right for the link to the PDF, or click here:
