Ride tomorrow 9 Jun 12

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Anybody interested in doing about 40km of road, fire trials and some single track tomorrow (9 Jun 12) meet me at the Lisarow Plaza Carpark at 7.30. The pace will be easy, however, there are couple of hills to tackle. Route is Lisarow/Katandra/Rumbulara/Erina/Kincumber Mountain/Gosford/Lisarow.

I tried posting this in My Rides but couldn't get it to work.

What's happening at Freedom jumps?

I have noticed as I am going by on the bus over the last few days there has been some sort of contractor mob at freedom jumps with the gate open.

Does anyone know what is happening there? Are they building or demolishing?

All

Can you please help me get the message out to everyone.

Tell your mates and get them to tell theirs.

The biggest potential we have for more legal trails or not losing more informal ones is in getting approval from the majority land owner in this region that is not NPWS.

TrailCare has been working with the traditional owners and guardians of this land and meeting them for some time now and things were going well.

However this is being jeopardised (20-40km of AM trails at Red Hill and Oxy) and we had to do some smoothing over today.

Hi All
I am looking at putting together a reasonably tough pair of 26" wheels for general trail riding & training in the local hills here in Perth.
I will be using them on a long travel fork HT & a 5" travel duallie. I would like to be able to ride drops & rock gardens without worrying unduly about punctures & splits

A great MTB community

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I just wanted to say a few words about the MTB community and specifically the guys that frequent the trails on the Northern Beaches.

I’ve been actively riding my MTB on the Northern Beaches tracks and trails for the last 12 months. Up until recently I was riding a piece of crap Big W bike but I never copped any shit for it, people accepted that I was just out having a go and were always friendly. In fact when I busted a chain at the end of the Long Track at Duffy’s Forest every rider who came past stopped to check if I was ok and many offered to check if they had a spare link.

So you wanna be a bike messenger?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Can you ride a fixie?
With no brakes?
With toe clips?
Can you bunny-hop a fixie?
Over a 4-foot fence?
Can you do a 180 reverse?
Off a 3m drop?
Can you do a sliders and keo spins and nose pivots?
Can you slip out of your toe-clips in a pico-second to slide under a jack-knifed semi-trailer?

If you said no to any of these, you ain't no bike messenger...

Lower mountains eastern escarpment trails

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi,
I am a year 11 student currently doing a research project for geography. It involves picking an issue in your local area and researching it and providing the results in the form of a 10 minute presentation.

I have chosen to do mine on the Blue Mountains eastern escarpment bike trails as it interests me and i have seen the issue reported numerous times in the local paper.

I was wondering if anyone has any information, links, contacts ect. That would be able to help me with this work.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

For teaching kids how to ride.

Have a look at the video, a guy pushes a bike with no-one on it and it stays upright.

MTB political party?

Following the very divisive deal done between the Liberal state government & Shooters n Fishers Party which has allowed permitted shooters feral hunting in National Parks, whilst us MTBr's are at early tentative steps in securing singletrack in NP's(apart from Glenrock & the Royal) do we take a next step?.Yes we have organisations who are working with NPWS on such programs(GTA & Trailcare) hoping to achieve this, but is it enough?.Do we try & form a political party to represent us?

Manly Dam filming

I ride the dam a fair bit, and thought i might take my video camera out and try and film most of the track while people are riding past, and see what the end result is. When is the post popular ride time, i am guessing 10am-12pm? I am normally there at about 730am and there are not too many riders out then!
Thoughts and comments....

What changes would you make on a Trek Fuel EX 5?

What is the first item (or make it top three items) you would replace on a Trek Fuel EX 5?

I’m looking at getting this bike, but are aware that most factory bikes are not perfect, and that most times you would like to make some amendments to them. So I’m wondering what you would change first, maybe even from day one?

Here’s a link to the specs of the Fuel EX 5:

Manly Dam deteriorating?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was out for a spin last night at the dam - the inner west had not copped any rain so was surprised at how wet and slippery it was. It may have been cause it was dark but it really seems like there's more and more parts that are in quite an advanced state of deterioration. I don't mind at all as it adds to the spice but it doesn't really feel like a novice' s track any more. It seems to me just a matter of time before a really bad accident happens out there with the volume, and wide rider ability who hit that trail.

Aerial filming rig - looking for guys to film with

I have been flying an experimental aerial filming rig for the last 6 months and want to try chasing some guys on bikes.
I heard there was a solid jump line up at Redhill or Oxford falls somewhere?
Is anyone interested in hitting it or other interesting features in return for some free footage?

Here are a couple of recent films I made with the quad:

Knees protection

Thinking maybe it's time to protect those (becoming old) knees.
From what I see around, seems that Six Six One brand is quite popular.

What's the difference between these?

I only do XC, no DH.

What do you have guys? Do you reckon it's necessary?

Great trails

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

You guys have some great tracks around here. You've obviously got some very dedicated trail fairies around your way!

I visit the Central West (Mudgee, Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst and Lithgow) from Sydney about once a month with work and bring my bike when I can. I've riden Geurie, Kinross and Rydal and am going to try Mugga Hill out in a few weeks time. What's it like? Is it similar to the other 3 tracks? I'm just wondering which bike to bring.

Thanks,
Jason

Bad news from the Wollongong MTB Club yesterday. The email that has gone out to members is as follows...

Thank you for all of the messages regarding the Appin Track.

We have been using the track without formal permission from the owners, however Derek has been in contact with them on several occasions discussing the continued use of the track.
