Funny: You know you are a cyclist, when...

You know you are a cyclist, when...

You pull up on the steering wheel of your car to go over a speed bump.

You see a fit, tanned, lycra-clad young woman ride by, and the first thing you check out is her bike...

You find yourself rapidly switching across four lanes of traffic to check out bikes on the back of a car...

You spend your time at work on the internet watching the weather ...

You mourn for your old junker bike when you get a new one.

You're driving you scope out the rock formations on the side of the road and think " I could ride that..."

Perimeter Trail Condition?

It's likely I will be taking a newbie buddy on a ride at Terrey Hills tomorrow (Sep 14) so ask the question...

Did anyone ride there in the last week or so and was the Perimeter wet?

There was a lot of rain last weekend, but I'm imagining it will be OK in most spots by now, can anyone say otherwise?

Cheers!

P.S. Yeah, yeah - I would post a newbie ride, but... said buddy is a little bad with clocks so doubt we will be sticking to any particular time, and as is complete beginner who knows how long this will take! Eye-wink

Efficency

This may be an out there question but...

I was riding home last night on the XC bike (Specialized Stumpy) and i normally ride home on the other bike (Giant OCR Compact road bike) after cursing the hill up to North Sydney while following a commuter and thinking gee the XC bike is inefficent on the road! perhaps a carbon bit here or there would help, harder tyres blah blah blah

I was thinking....

Looking for some firetrails so I can get used to my SPD's

I was thinking of taking a ride this sat to try out my SPD's, never ridden in them before apart from in the carpark and promptly fell off the first time I stopped.

I'd be keen for a ride round Cascades (non technical) or Terrey Hills unless other people have some suggestions?

Failing that I'll take a leisurely ride out and try not to get lost!

I'm *almost* back on the bike...

So after 5-ish weeks off the bike due to the broken wrist (scaphoid) I finally had the cast taken off yesterday!

Back on the stationary gym-bike today, and hoping to be back on the real bike in a few weeks time.
I'll need to, given the 10kg of beer-weight I've put on...

See you on the trails soon,
Don

Free bike frame and bits - free to good home

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've built up a couple of bikes lately and have some spare parts in boxes on my balcony that i'd like to see someone get some use out of.

I pulled all the good bits off my old Gary Fisher and put them on my wife's Trek. All the bits off the 2006 Trek 4300 (below) that were replaced i offer free to a good home (perhaps an upgrade on the wife or kids bikes)
She hasn't ridden the bike much (about 60km) and all the gear is in very good condition. She hasn't learnt how to huck it yet Eye-wink

Bike Workstand

I'm sick of propping my bikes up on chairs and boxes, i need a workstand

Anybody got any recommendations for a good bicycle workstand.
I'm pretty keen on a DIY if it turns out more financially viable.
Any comments appreciated

Awaba XC Build Day - Sunday September 14, starting at 7am.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Its time for our next build Day, the following is an email from the HMBA XC coordinator.

Build Day is Sunday Sept 14 kicking off at 7am.

Hi all track builders!

Since I last updated you all we had a very successful build day 3 and unfortunately had to postpone build day 4 due to bad weather. But it's on again and hopefully this rain we are having will clear by then. Keith Bruce and I walked a fair chunk of the yet to be built tracks on 31st and checked out what's ahead so have a plan for us to open up approx 500m more track on this next day.

St. Helenas trail restoring days (Sept + Oct)

Hi guys!

I just received this from MWMTB and thought it might be of interest as we often talk about wanting to help maintaining our trails. Sounds like this is an opportunity at the Blue Mts. St Helena's track which many of us have enjoyed in the past Smiling

Cheers
Carolin

"Received a request from Peter Miller for volunteers to help restore the Saint Helena area in the Blue mountains National Park.
All those who use the Oaks fire trail would be familiar with this area.
See attached letter and web site http://miller.emu.id.au/pmiller/st_helena/
if you can spare some time.
Brett"

Chiropractor recommendation - special offer this Saturday

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

There's been quite a bit of discussion recently about backs, knees, and general structural health of the body. I've been using a chiropractor for over 6 years now for body maintenance and 'structural' well-being. My chiropractor, Brett Grant follows a holistic approach to overall health and support of my sporting activities, and I highly recommend him.

He uses the Activator Technique, which I would describe as a low-impact method of alignment (he does an absolute minimum of traditional 'manipulation').
