Gutterball @ Oxford Falls

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Recently someone posted a ride at Oxford Falls and I commented that riding Gutterball was illegal. This is the very steep chute at the East end of Morgan Road Firetrail if you don't know it, or know it by another name.

Well, since then I have found a proper overlay of the National Park boundaries and stand corrected. The Eastern edge of the National Park boundary ends before the marked firetrail and thus NPWS have no jurisdiction over the trail we know as Gutterball.

Brits Domination (!)

I would just like to say well done to the Brits in the Track cycling. As a Pom myself it makes me proud to come from such good stock, this year anyway Smiling

Oh, and the Aussies did quite well too.

What number comes after 6 (as in - Olympic cycling Gold Medals)?

I'm going to say it since no Aussie is going to mention it - what a phenomenal and inspirational performance from the British road & track cycling teams in the Olympics. If you're British, of course..

What next - a podium finish in the MTB events?

Huzzah!

Ed: If you could complete the form here, that would be tops:

http://nobmob.com/node/5989

1. What is your name.

2. What is your age group.

3. How long have you been riding.

4. Have you noticed any changes in the trails you have ridden on.

I can't believe it, but seems true. Here's the perfect GPS for your Raleigh Grifter!

Bairne Track - what next for a starter???

Being reasonably new to MTB I found some info on Bairne track on this site and did the ride last Sunday: great fun for a beginner. I also did Soldiers Point and only about 200m of Portuguese as I was'nt sure how far down this went, roughly how long does it take to do Portuguese back to the main track? Also, what other tracks in the area can anyone recommend that are a bit more technical than Soldiers point ie: the next level up without wrapping myself around a tree!

Barrington Tops

Hello Again,

Ok, so I thought I'd start a new thread for this one (if you read about the roof racks) Anyway, I just read up a bit on Barrington Tops. Does anyone know if there is singletrack out there or if it is all fire trail? I believe we might be staying to the southeast of the park so I want to be sure it will be worth going the extra distance!

Thanks,

Maria

I made a .crs and .gpx compacter tool (reduces size to less than 20%)

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi all!

Thought I would let you know what I?ve been working on till dawn (and a little more) this night:

I created the "CourseCompacter" application to compact (compress) the size of Courses for my Edge 205.
However, I made it compatible with .crs & .tcx and .gpx files so that most GPS devices should benefit from this "track compacter".

I have done some tests, and they are pretty amazing.
The results vary depending on what kind of Course or GPX file you load.

New spokes and wheel trueing on a Sunday AM?

Just got back from a nice ride with my youngest in Royal NP...and now just noticed 2 busted spokes (nipples) and wheel wobble on my DT Swiss 4.30 rear rim.

Question: I wanted to go on a ride tomorrow (Sunday)...any suggestions where I can get (on the LNS, on a Sunday morning)

a) DT Swiss spokes and nipples
b) a quick "on the spot" wheel trueing service?

Appreciate your suggestions.

Thx Hans

Garmin Edge Training Center - Please assist

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The standard map in Garmin Training Center is crappy. Yes I know I can view it in Google earth but it looks like a million little photos laid down instead of a nice red/purple line. Please, I have been reading GPS and mapping forums and BS for about 2 hours. Save me! All I want to do is d/l a map and stick it in the Garmin folder and see a better map in Training Center. I never new the world of GPS was infinitely complicated.

A map with some topo lines would be nice, and a few more streets than the basic map shows.

Majura or sparrow hill?

Heading down to Canberra to see the world cup leg, and thinking of taking bikes. But as im yet to head that way can anyone reccommend the best ride, either majura pine or sparrow hill. I ride fairly often but will be joined by some inexperienced yet fit(ish) friends. Looking to get them into the scene so a good ride here could persued them to buy bikes! Any advise welcome.

Rear air shock, needs pumping up?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I have been riding my first dualie for a few months now and decided I wanted to try out an air shock to compare against the coil I have now.
So I bought 2 second hand shocks (very cheap) to try out, problem is when I installed either of them as soon as I sat on the bike the shock didn't hold my weight at all and just compressed fully.

First I thought they were both faulty but that is very unlikely seeing as they came from two completely different people.
So do the shocks just need pumping up?
