Another pricey ride

Well it's only been a few weeks since our mudfest drivetrain destroying nightride and one again this one will end up being expensive.

Turns out the disc was rubbing the caliper because the whole axle was bent when Tien used it as a seat.

Any ideas how much a Crossmax axle will cost!? Sad

Tassie Trail

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on best kit to buy for a trip I'm planning to the Tassie Trail. What is best type of bag for carrying kit, a back pack or under seat bag, I'm going light and have looked at the Carraidice SQR Trax, but all the MTB riders appear to use backpacks. Is this because of weight distribution? Any advice on this for a long ride?

Also what is the best head light to use for night rides?

Lastly has anyone done a ride like this (480KM's) and what sort of preperation did they do to get cycle fit for 6-7 days full riding?

Cheers
Hemsy

2008 Australian 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championship Registration

I tried to register our team this morning and again just now, got this message.

"2008 Australian 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championship Registration
I Registration is temporarily closed. Registration will open again tomorrow (7/8/2008) morning at 9am."

As team Captain should I be nervous?

Hi,

Is anyone racing the flight centre epic in QLD 24th August? I'm looking to bum a lift to the race from brisbane or share car hire costs with someone.

Drop me an email or call me if either of these are possible.

Knee Injury - Help

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

OK, I know I've seen some of you guys with strapping around your knees so I'm looking for some suggestions. I did triathlons many centuries ago and stopped after being unable to resolve a knee injury which would flare up when riding. After many ceturies of not riding, I got into mountain biking about 4 years ago. Surprisingly, until now, I haven't experienced the same problem with my knee (I'm guessing because of the constant shifts in body weight when MTBing as against the fairly constant rotations on the road).

New servers for NoBMoB?

I wish! No, just for the LHC. "The project is expected to generate 27 TB of raw data per day..." So a bit more than us, eh?! Eye-wink

El Cheapo GPS

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We've had some talk about GPS lately, here's one for 180 bucks:

http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/WNCUGN8GT

What is really rather good is that it has an electronic compass - a rare feature indeed. In case you don't know, without this a GPS can only tell which direction it's facing when moving.

What's the catch? Well, not specifically for riding or fitness so no NRM and no virtual partner and all that. The Edge is still the only one with these features from what I can tell.

Anyhow - I find this on the 'net:

Fork lockout?

Hi guys, I'm looking to do some sort of intra-day enduro event by the middle of next year as a goal for mtb skills and rehab from some old injuries.

On the equipment front, is a lockout on the front fork required and/or useful for these events? I have a Jekyll 800 with a plain-vanilla coil-sprung Lefty Max 130mm fork with rebound only, no lockout or pedal platform. Is it worth getting a lockout fitted to the front? It already has a Fox RL pro-pedal rear shock. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Hawkeye

Angry Doctor route map anyone ?

Does anyone out there have a route map for the Angry Doctor ?

I know the course is a bit different from last year but I haven't seen a map for either this years or last years race.

I probably won't get the time to go down for a recce before the race, but I wouldn't mind getting a feel for the route anyway.

I'd love to hear some reports of last years race to get an idea of the terrain..... particularly in comparison to this years Dirtworks 100.

Otherwise, I might see some of you down there....( but only if you're running very slowly !)

I think I'm jinxed...

You may have to sign a disclaimer if come along as I seem to be bringing bad luck to every ride I attend recently. Went for a spin with Matt_P today at Red Hill and he ended up in casualty with a rather large pedal induced hole in his shin. So bring your body armour and a first aid kit. Either that or leave me in the car park where my 'black cat' / 'walking under ladder' qualities can do no harm...

Sydney's drivers 'worst' for bike rage

August 2, 2008

SYDNEY drivers are more hostile towards cyclists than motorists of any other country, says a world authority on transport.

Christian Wolmar, a Briton who was invited by the State Government to promote bicycle use in NSW, said Sydney's cycling infrastructure is 10 years behind that of London.

Manly Dam - Changes to the route

Hi Guys,

Given the changes that are being made to the Dam, I was wondering if we should be wiping the Hotlap slate clean as once the "renovations" are finished, new times will not really be a fair comparison with the old. What do people think?
