Tour News - More EPO Doping (Roadie Warning)

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

First off, those who aren't interested in the Tour, please refrain from regurgitating the old MTB vs Road debate. No one is forcing you to read this...

Just saw on the news that another rider, Riccardo Ricco aka the Cobra has been booted from the Tour (the 3rd in this year's Tour) and resulted in his team (Saunier Duval) withdrawing from the Tour altogether.

What I don't get is that EPO was/is one of the most widely known drugs in cycling and with the testing becoming almost foolproof, what possesses a pro to go down that road, knowing that everything is at stake?

Family-friendly trails near Ourimbah / Central coast?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Do you know of any family-friendly trails near Ourimbah / Central coast area?

I'm planning to take my wife and our 3 boys (7, 10, 11) to a friend's farm near Ourimbah SF / Yarramalong / Dooralong Valley in a week or so...

Any recommendations for any family-friendly (easy) trails near this area?

Anything within an hours drive (e.g. Watagan Mountains) is OK.

Pilgrimage means bridge is closed for cars - can i ride it?

I was thinking....
With the Pilgrimage to Randwick this Saturday the harbour bridge is shut to cars from 2am till 5pm.
Does anyone know if i can take advantage of this on the bike and ride the main bridge deck. It would be an awesome ride (perhaps take the little lady - i'll be in the good books for sure.)
Anyone else interested in joining us. (I feel a group ride in the works)

NOTE: I promise not to "bar" any pilgrims. I am a reformed MTBer (i have seen the error in my selfish speed-hungry ways)

Narrabeen Lake loop - help?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So i'm looking at doing the nice flat Narra Lake loop this weekend with my g/f and possibly other friends.

Now I know the majority of the way around but i'm still a bit unclear on where you go after the Sports Centre....

On exiting the Centre you have to ride along Wakehurst Pky for 'about 500m' in an easterly direction, then take a dirt road to the left somewhere to make your way to the foot bridge over the creek, correct? Is this left turn off Wakehurst Pky in between the two road bridges? Is the course i roughly plotted on the image below about right?

Anyone into photography?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm interested in improving my photography. I bought a new camera a few days ago.
Are any of you guys into photography?

The reason I ask is that I'd love to go on a ride and take pics of riders (and have people take pics of me). Obviously a typical nobmob ride is no place for this - stopping every so often to drag out the camera would not be feasible. Stopping periodically for photography is inconsistent with a flowing, fun ride.

I rode Ourimbah XC on Saturday morning. Great ride. It has been shortened quite a bit. Down to about 8kms per lap.
To note - the drop-in before Jurasic Park has been cordoned off.

MYSTERIOUS DISCOVERY! The Trail of the Pharaohs...

Don't you love to discover the unexpected on those new rides....

Thanks to guidance by local "coastie" Andrew and (office-bound) Kurt we found ourselves in the deep valleys of Brisbane Water NP.

By means of a late intervention and cryptic descriptions by Kurt (PM'ed 20 minutes before the ride) plus Andrew's excellent hand-drawn maps...we made our way to what was described as the "Secret of the coast"

Bike security

Hi,

I've been thinking about how to keep my bikes secure in the shed that I have in an apartment block. Its just a small shed about 2.5m x 1.8m concrete floor and brick walls.

Great Website for Buying Tyres

Just stumbled accross this website while reading reviews on tyres. The prices are very good (about $45 for Nobby Nic's or Racing Ralph's). The key though is that the delivery charge seems to be a flat rate of EUR30 regardless of the order (which is normally where you get smacked with Jenson etc). www.bike24.net Apologies if this is a well known website!!

Help! I need a helmet cam buddie

Having recently acquired a new 'Hero helmet cam' I quickly realised it makes pretty dull post ride viewing if you're on your own! If anyone fancies doing a couple of laps of the dam at the weekend let me know. I usually do a lap in around 40 mins so I guess I'm about average fitness. I'm originally from the UK and can't wait to send the footage home to show my mates what they're missing in the northern beaches.
