The BMC Mountains To Beach Stage Race (add this to your calendar...)

The BMC Mountains To Beach - 6 days of awesome mountain bike stage racing from the roof of Australia to the surf

Imagine a week of mountain biking, a week of racing, that will take you from the highest mountains in Australia, across snowgum lined plains, down along rainforest lined creeks and out to finish with your wheels in the sand and surf. Snaking singletrack, ‘wind through the helmet’ downhills, challenging uphills and some of the most varied scenery you could want.

Best tyres for the dam?

Hi folks,

I currently have tried a mix of ignitors, high rollers, fat slicks (my commuter, don't ask), wierwolfs ... and I'm not happy with any of them. I'm going to run the dam more regularly and may as well set my bike up or it specifically.

Can you friendly regulars give me your favourite tyre choice? Including front/rear pref if you have one?

Many thanks,
Ric

Andos+Oaks 6th July

Hi there

I'm looking to do a largish ride over the weekend of 5th-6th July. Was thinking of Andos+Oaks or perhaps Wisemans ferry. There is supposed to be some single track along here as well I think so I'm keen to hear about that too.

Anyone keen?

A dilemma?

I have a conundrum.

If I ever had the moolah, as a 6ft 7 bloke, where could I find a full suspension bike?

The answer might be here: http://www.zinncycles.com/gallery1.aspx

The time could be right - 1 Aussie $ to 96 US cents.

I could get 29 inch wheels.

They could build a Rohloff friendly frame for me.

I would be in heaven.

The question is - how do I sell this to 'er indoors?

Hi

I have a Bell sweep r.

It is CPSC Certified.

Can I race with this in Australia or do I have to get a new helmet?

Thanks

Torpedo7 voucher

I received a voucher from torpedo 7 with my last order. It's for 20 dollars off orders over 100 dollars. It expires on the 15th of July.
I'll reply to the first person who posts in this thread asking for it, and will give you the voucher code.

Mountain biking 'worth millions'

A mountain biking project in southern Scotland has been credited with generating £9m annual visitor income and more than 200 new jobs. The 7stanes scheme covering Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders was first set up six years ago. A survey commissioned by Forestry Commission Scotland shows visitor numbers have now hit 400,000-a-year.

Environment Minister Mike Russell said the area had become a "world class mountain biking destination".

Forks need a service

Alright boys and girls with far greater knowledge than I,
I need to get my forks serviced (reba race 29er) but i want to make sure they are in good hands and that they understand fork setup as well. Sowhere would i find such a workshop? what sort of cost should i be expecting?
Is DIY an option or should i just take it to a bike shop that knows what they are doing?
Cheers

National Parks and tourism

Based on the call for comment Rob posted here http://nobmob.com/node/5487

Below is my submission

The Secretary
Task Force on Tourism and National Parks
GPO Box 7050
Sydney 2001

Dear Sir

As a keen park visitor and avid cyclist I read with interest the
recent report into park usage and am pleased a task force has been set
up to help encourage an increase in sustainable tourism use.

A major limit to my visitation, and that of many other cyclists, is
the severely restricted access of cycling on trails with in National
parks.

Tourism and NSW national parks

Some rather exciting news that could mean better access to NSW National Parks may be forthcoming in the future.

The NSW Government's State Plan seeks to increase visitation to our national parks, and reserves by 20 per cent by 2016. To meet this target it is vital that we provide high quality and diverse visitor experiences and promote these special places effectively, while ensuring the protection of their conservation values.

...

Submissions are invited from interested individuals and organisations on tourism and national parks. Written submissions are invited, and should be lodged by close of business Monday 29 August 2008.

Yes - I know - August 29 this year is not a Monday, they must mean the Friday that week.

The addresses for submission are on the page this was taken from here:

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/commercial/tou...

Any suggestions about what needs to be said in response? If you do write can you please post about it in the Action I've Taken forum.

New NSWMTB Trail Advocacy List

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The good folk over at NSWMTB are getting organised. They are trying to co-ordinate advocacy actions at state level and to this end setup a Wiki a while back, and now a mailing list.

I believe the plan is that the mailing list will be low volume for announcements and organising action when it needs to be taken. If you don't want to miss a chance to help advocacy campaigns it's probably a good plan to join this list.

There's a link to the list top of their Wiki, here:

Welcome from your local member

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This is partly off topic, but I recently became a citizen and today received an introductory letter from the local state member.

Of course this is just spam that they send out to everyone, but I took it as an opportunity.

I replied in thanks for the welcome. Then pointed out a few things that were on my mind. Supporting a renewable and sustainable lifestyle for all is required. Less dependence on the car, better public transport, more and proper cycle lanes, more access to public lands for recreation, etc, etc.
