Truvativ HammerSchmidt

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

In case you can't immediately tell by the pictures this is a crank/BB package that replaces two front chainrings with an internal mechanism. You get "equivalent to a 22/36 or 24/38 chainring" but with more clearance (and what looks to me like more weight, but can't find those specs).

Mostly of interest to DH'ers (with lots of $$$).

There's a flashy marketing site here: http://www.magicmechanics.com/

And some spiel from NSMB here: http://www.nsmb.com/page/s/2585/truvativ-hammers...

Giant Trance X range

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey all. I know there's been a shedload of talk about the Trance range and other similar bikes on the site lately, so i hope i don't tip people over the edge with another query. I know people's opinion of a bike is largely personal to the point where some consider the X0 to be xc/trail and others would call it all mountain, but what's going on with these AMB reviews?...

32 t or 34 t on rear cassette?

Opinions please...

I am about to order a 11-32 teeth SRAM PG 990 rear cassette...on special at CRC..

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?m...

My Enduro has 11-34 as standard...how noticable is the difference?

http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spi...

Riding style is mainly XC ...and I haven't run out of low gearing yet on the current 11-34 ratio...

What is your view / experience on this?

Thx Hans

Awaba trail Photos and Build Day Info

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

For anyone interested, or with nothing better to do, the next build day is on this sunday (17th August) at 8am.

The following is from a club email.

Hi all track builders!

I am sure you have by now heard that the track construction has been progressing very nicely. We have had some keen volunteers turning up and landing a helping hand, so much thanks must go out to all that have assisted so far. Unfortunately it has been the same faces and we will burn them out pretty quickly without your help.

Chain Rection order - now closed sorry

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi guys, well here is another Chain Reaction order you can be part of...

I'm currently looking at getting around AU$270 worth of stuff, and paying AU$52 delivery.
I am around $330 short of qualifying for free postage so thought i'd see if any other NobMobers would like to add to the order, saving on postage and possibly reducing it to $0. Smiling

I am looking at placing this order online on {edit} Thursday morning (8am), 14/08/2008 {edit}.
Also note that i would like to keep this order below $900 to avoid any issues with import duty.

So, any takers?

Cheers,
Will.

Holy grail of saddles anyone?

Hey all,

Having experienced the old Johnny Cash special on more than one bad saddle choice in the past I thought I'd throw it out there to see who swears by what for their cheek comfort over long distances.

Your responses may affect my next choice of purchase....

Which Bike <$4000 ?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm looking to buy a new mountain bike and was hoping for some recommendations as to what to buy and where from.

Currently riding Manly Dam & Oxford Falls on a Merida hardtail and want to upgrade and am wondering what would be best for me. I've read the posts on the Giant Trance X1 which seems like a good option, are there any other options out there ? Would the Giant Reign X1 be suitable, or is it a lot heavier than the Trance X1 (I don't do any downhill at present).

Hi to all!

Have only been riding for approx 6 months am pretty much hooked. I ride a hardtail as I started mainly riding on the road for a few hours on the weekend trying to get fitter but then went off road once or twice and got really hooked. I try to get out every weekend just for 1-2 hours and have riden Terry Hills long track, the track that starts at Wyatt ave and winds down to the creek crossing(first face plant!)and Manly Dam twice (2 nervous rides).

Sydney's roads

I was reading the paper this morning when I stumbled across this article on the appaling state of Sydney's rodes if you're on a bike and just how bloody dangerous it is.

Although this looks like a fall could be painful. Imagine this kind of stuff built over a foam pit - how cool would that be? For softies? Eye-wink

I'm happy to say

And just for the record too! that my bike now weighs 12.4kgs Smiling

This bike retails for $1999. It is as new. Ridden once up the road (and across a grassy front yard). It still has the nobblies bits on the original tyres.

This bike is immaculate. Try and fault it. Email me for photos. I'll take plenty so you can see it's good condition.

How long for Manly Dam trail to dry up

Just wondering, what's the consensus on how long Manly dam takes to dry up after it rains. it rained on thursday and i'm planing to go out tomorrow on saturday, do you think 2 days is enough time? i know that we probably should be riding there if it's wet so i don't want to bother coming out all the way from the city and have to turn back.

thanks

Technique: Get faster by riding slowly

Article forwarded by our friends at MTBOz:

Technique: Get faster by riding slowly

Are you a pupil of the ‘no pain, no gain’ school of training? New research says you’ll get fitter faster if you take it easy.

Sounds good doesn't it? But we're not quite saying you can get fitter by sitting on the sofa. The trick is to ride in the least taxing of your training zones, the levels of effort that actually have an effect on your fitness. Let's kick off by taking a look at them....

Andersons+Oaks 10/08/08

I don't know if anyone is interested but I am planning on riding Andersons+Oaks on Sunday. My bother is over from London and last Sunday he went on his first ride at Terry Hills. We ended up covering 35kms and he wants more. The pace will not be fast but it will be consistent. We are just sorting out the logistics in more detail but will probably look at getting the 8.23am train from Glenbrook.
