How to fix your Garmin Edge - Extreme Edition
We've previously talked about fixing Garmin Edge units here: http://nobmob.com/node/7864
And in that other thread there was a link to someone who bypassed the spring loaded connector for power.
Well, recently, Steve01 threw his old Edge 305 at me in disgust and taking up the challenge I decided to have a bash at fixing it. Here's what I did...
Edge 305 & GPX Files
I have exported the route created on bikely and tried to load it in my Edge 305 but I am having dificulties. Has anyone loaded routes from bikely before or am I doing something wrong. To load to the GPS unit I am using the Motionbased Agent but it says something like invalid file.
PS. If someone has the Edge 305 and could test it using the below link that would be great

Cheers

How to fix your Garmin Edge
For all those who have an Edge that powers off randomly - this might be something good to try:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t400936-garmin_edge...
There's a nice thread here on how to disassemble the device in the first place:
http://forums.motionbased.com/smf/index.php?topi...
BTW - while we're at it, if your Edge seems completely dead it might not be. If you haven't used it for a while plug in the USB for a while to make sure the battery is not dead then try this:
PDA software MyMotion for GPS route tracking
I was looking for software for free that I could use on my PDA Dopod
D810 aka HTC P3600 which has inbuilt GPS. I came across:
http://users.bigpond.net.au/ian_pendlebury/mymad...
Provides tracking info and data such as altitiude, distance, time etc
unfortunately no HR ability.
Unsure on battery life as can't ride at present due to a hand injury
at the dam but a test in the car with the file saved to a kmz file
and emailed to my PC showed excellent accuracy with distance markers.
MotionX-GPS on my iPhone
I just downloaded a free app on my iPhone from the app store called MotionX-GPS. I got the light version which is free and there is another version which you pay about $3 for. The free one is unreal, but i may end up getting the paid version to support this great developer.
Anyhow below is the information that it gave me after a ride when i chose the option to email the ride (track) to me. To test it i just did a road ride around Homebush and didn't start it properly until i got to Silverwater.
more garmin talk!
been looking at getting a hrm or gps/both and would rather spend in australia than overseas if the price is anyway competitive. does anyone know of the cheapest deal on a garmin edge 305? i know hans recently got a good price for a 705 but after yet another bike purchase i cant stretch the budget for the full colour blingy one!
Knight Rider GPS
I can't believe it, but seems true. Here's the perfect GPS for your Raleigh Grifter!
...those LED’s on each side not only sweep just like the real thing but also sync to voice...
I made a .crs and .gpx compacter tool (reduces size to less than 20%)
Hi all!
Thought I would let you know what I?ve been working on till dawn (and a little more) this night:
I created the "CourseCompacter" application to compact (compress) the size of Courses for my Edge 205.
However, I made it compatible with .crs & .tcx and .gpx files so that most GPS devices should benefit from this "track compacter".
I have done some tests, and they are pretty amazing.
The results vary depending on what kind of Course or GPX file you load.
Cool iphone application
This is very cool if you have an iphone...
Its no Garmin edge, but still has the main stuff which would be useful.
Loz
El Cheapo GPS
We've had some talk about GPS lately, here's one for 180 bucks:

What is really rather good is that it has an electronic compass - a rare feature indeed. In case you don't know, without this a GPS can only tell which direction it's facing when moving.
What's the catch? Well, not specifically for riding or fitness so no NRM and no virtual partner and all that. The Edge is still the only one with these features from what I can tell.
Anyhow - I find this on the 'net:
