Ourimbah State Forest
As the single tracks are being closed around our ears we may have to travel slightly further out to train for the Angry Doctor. Aim to get at least 2 laps of the XC course and perhaps the downhill as well. This means The Valley, Big Gully Road, Jurassic Park, Potters Gully Road, Five Ways, The Roller Coaster.. it's all on the trail and all brilliant.
Aiming to ride at a fair pace, but the main idea is to get the single track skills up a bit. I'm happy for anyone to come along.
2008 Highland Fling
Ferndale Oval, Bundanoon (see event website for details).
The VAUDE Highland Fling is a mountain bike marathon to challenge you all. It offers a scenic and challenging route through forests and farmland in the Southern Highlands of NSW. A mix of singletrack, forest tracks, dirt road and less than 2km of blacktop.Do the Full Fling (approx 110km), the Half Fling (approx 55km), the relay Flinging Threesomes or take an even bigger challenge on the 100 Mile Fling!
The main race is on Sunday 9 November but there's plenty happening on Saturday 8 too, including the Bundanoon Dash, a fundraising 6km 'sprint' race (it's not compulsory!).
Hornsby/Galston Explorer
"Crosslands" car park, at the end of Somerville Road, Hornsby Heights. Somerville Road is off Galston Road. Drive for 4km to reach park gate and it's a further 2.5km's of gravel down the hill to the car park.
A jolly Sunday morning jaunt exploring some of the best (er, only) dirt in Hornsby Heights!
Using as little tarmac as possible one can string a number of fire trails together to make a 45kmish ride in Hornsby/Hornsby Heights which provides a good workout - it's just over 1000 metres of climbing I think. I like it because I don't have to travel very far; you can move at a reasonable pace, making the downs interesting enough, and a couple of the ups are challenging. I'd equate it to the Centre/Duckholes/Perimeter/Long tracks + connecting road bits, with more hills.
Parra Lake - Easy Cruise

Come along. A couple of us will see what AlexD thinks of the new Trek Fuel X 9.
The XC Loop will go past a jump area. We will probably do 2 laps.
This little XC Loop boasts lots of variety. Well worth seeing. It does not take long to get there from the M2. Takes me about 25 minutes from Thornleigh.
Manly Dam night ride
As discussed in last week's ride, let's do Manly Dam as a change.
As you will all have seen we can only do the main Manly loop now as Bantry Bay is now closed. If one lap is too short then you can always do a second loop lights permitting.
There's no pub nearby here so bring a beer or two for the whinge session about trail closures after the ride
