Northern Beaches
Hello
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking on here for a while and thought I would sign up and say hello. I moved to Sydney a few months ago from the UK and have been sampling the local trails (Manly Dam, Royal National Park & Blue Mountains) and am loving it (well except for all the rain).
I ride an grey Orange Five, so if you see me out and about say hello!
Child friendly trails
Any suggestions on which trails around the northern beaches are particularly good for kids? My eldest daughter is 8 and really keen to get out mountain biking. We sometimes ride parts of the dam but in general it's too technical and hilly. Any suggestions on trails (possibly around Terrey Hills) which are not too hilly and non-technical (but challenging enough for an 8 year old.
cheers
Barney
Manly hotlap
Does anyone think that the wet conditions slow you down at all? I'm grasping at straws here but went for a spin this morning and seeing I didn't have a lot of time thought I'd do a hot-lap. Managed to post a time over 4 mins slower than my best - I think it's age and fitness but it felt faster and I was wondering whether conditions have a significant impact or not.
Best Wishes
Hi all, unfortunately tonight something really bad happened to a fellow Mountain Bike rider out on the Perimeter trail. To whomever it was, a whole bunch of us know you're hurt real real bad and we wish you the best recovery possible. If anyone knows the gent, please pass on this message on behalf of the MTB community.
All the best mate - whoever you are.
Oxford Falls - Morgan Road Tracks
Hi
I've been browsing the site and forums over the last few years and enjoy what a great local resource it can be!
I live in Narrabeen and walk around the bush in Oxford Falls frequently. No agenda, just nature photography etc. Obviously I notice a mixture of MTB and power bikes.
I've seen discussions/maps on the site regarding tracks that are not to be ridden ie Moon Rock/Little Moab/Chicken Run/Lookout. I haven't noticed signs on these tracks for a while and wondered if anyone knew what's up?
When it stops raining, i can get this thing out...
Well after 4 months of waiting... The new ride has arrived, only to be pulled apart and made to look - well - different.
When it comes to racing, the tyres will be swapped over to proper tyres... The red bling can stay...
Wet weather: common sense...please!!
Observation during the last two weeks of heavy rain at Many Dam....
Crazy Ideas
How much would it cost to build a mega shed somewhere for the purpose of housing an all weather indoor Mountain bike track? If you were clever you could design trails to change routes (like train tracks) to go from being a low tech XC run to a more challenging one??? Think big, like Woolworths warehouse big! Also think of Golden Jubes, but undercover. You could keep the greenies happy by collecting all the rain water! And we'd lighten the load on wet trails...
Yes i know, the rain is driving me crazy! But if this was Dubai....
Tools on the road
Forgot to add to my hot lap blurb...
On my return to the Terrey hills car park whilst riding back up McCarrs, some tool in a new Black HSV Maloo Ute decides to try and clip me with his mirror and at the same time rev the buggery out of his normally sweet sounding engine - i say normally because, it doesnt sound too nice right next to your ear.
What has the dam cost you?
Not wanting to have a witch hunt about Manly Dam as I really enjoy riding this track and it's my local but I'm keen to know what cost it has had on your bikes?
