Terrey Hills update for 23 Oct

Status:
Green/Open

Perimeter and Long are almost as good as it gets right now. There are pockets of sand in the usual places and it's damp behind 210 Kulgoa Crescent but aside from that all good. We ventured down Cowan which has couple of fallen/low hanging branches but is all rideable. Nice view from the end and surprisingly fun - should do that more often.

Perfect day, perfect conditions...

Because it's dry there are some sandy sections on the outside of some corners so watch for that.

Smashed the 40 barrier

Date:
23 Oct 10

My target has been sub 40 since I got back on the bike 4 months ago. Felt good decending today although still slow'ish up hill.

Very happy to hit 35 minutes.

Target now is to find another 5 minutes to drop under 30... Any tips?

Canberra accommodation for 4 to 6 ?

I'm heading down to Canberra mid-November with 3 to 5 mates for a weekends riding. Can anyone suggest reasonable priced cabin, house or unit that sleeps 4 to 6 people. Have searched on Internet sites but they keep coming up with hotel rooms for 2. Thanks Ecca

Super Slow Terrey Hills

When:
Saturday, 23 October, 2010 - 09:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Terrey Hills / Duffys Forest
Meeting Point:

Park opposite/beside Terrey Hills shops, corner Booralie Rd/Yulong Ave. Or in the small carpark next to the RFS station & community centre.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

Late notice ride for tomorrow... I haven't ridden on the dirt for over 2 months so this is going to be slooooow.

Plan is just to trundle out to the end of the Long track and return. Depending on how that goes might also do duck hole + centre, but that is an optional extra only.

Hope this sun lasts, if it's raining I'll be at home on the trainer Sad

Forum Round up for Oct 22

Haven't done one for a while, so here's a quick forum round up for those looking to pass time on a Friday.

Sunny started quite a discussion about servicing tools - a worthy investment for any budding mechanic, right? For those already competent with a hex key or two there were lots of new machines shown off. Then there's that nice story about a Lost Phone & Multi Tool in Cascades that ended well... lucky!

Hopefully the pain of the 24 Hour Solo Worlds Champs has faded for those who did battle recently. There was a very nice Pit Crew Report too. Crazy, the lot of you!

Speaking of races, the Highland Fling is now only 3 weeks away. Surely the pick of this weekend's rides will then be the In for the Fling Mega Loop. Or would you prefer Sunday's Berowra fun stuff?

Finally, a big thanks to everyone who has taken a moment to complete the NPWS MTB Discussion Paper feedback form. Those comments are closing Monday so you still have time if you haven't added your voice yet! Sticking out tongue

Looking for a Sydney Ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I ride regularly in the Newcastle area, trails such as Glenrock, Awaba and also frequent Ourimbah. I will be in Sydney on the weekend 13/14 November and am trying to tee up a ride with some locals who can lead me around, Manly Dam, Oxford falls or any other trails south in the National Park or in the mountains (happy to travel to see something different). I don’t get to Sydney often to ride, don’t know the trails real well and the guys I normally ride with in Sydney are doing the fling.
