Snakes alive

Specifically avoiding Salvation track due to the 1,000s of spiders two days ago instead I encountered this fellow. It's about 5 feet long. Spiders. Snakes. What next?

Morning blast of the gorge

When:
Saturday, 16 February, 2008 - 06:15

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Quarry Road Track (Berowra Valley)

My rear derailleur is a bit stuffed at the moment so I know this will be a frustrating ride skipping gears climbing but Shano and Gary have tempted me too much with their run earlier in the week. I can understand if they want to lie in bed still recovering though. I'll be there with my next door neighbour.

Sponsors?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hmmmm... some of you might have just seen me giving T7 a plug and dropping the 'we now have a referral' link thing going with them. Anyone think this is a good or bad thing? I'd guess most are indifferent - if you have no feeling, no need to say so. Sticking out tongue

I think most of use know about their service and what they are about anyhow. If we stuck a little 'sponsors' box on the left (under the random image for example) this would promote them to people who don't know who they are, and also provide them with that referral.

Cascades - Four Gates

Ride Database Entry:
Cascades
Exact Distance:
15.4Km

Start at the gate at Cnr of Ralston and Elm Sts Belrose. Yes - this challenge starts/ends at the gate not top of Heath Track (and certainly not the newish gate part way down).

Follow Heath Track to bottom and then take Quarry Track up to park gate #1.

Back down to Heath and then take Lower Cambourne/Cascades up to St Ives gate #2.

Back down Cascades and up to Davidson gate #3.

Back down and then Bare Ck/Heath back to start (gate #4).

Put gate split times in sound bites.

A great fitness ride!

Heart rate monitors - accuracy question

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi there

I have recently bought a cheap heart rate monitor/cycle computer from eBay (oh no, sounds bad already doesn't it?) and I reckon the thing is wildly out. If I measure my resting pulse it's about 60bpm but the HRM says it's about 90 and bounces around quite a lot. The seller is telling me there is nothing wrong with it and in fact you can't measure using a watch and a fingers technique, that the device is far more accurate. I wonder if anyone with experience of these devices could help me out?

Wilderness mountain-bike expedition

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Any interest from any one in a 5-6 day wilderness mtb expedition in Wollemi/Yengo NP's?
Probably best time autumn or spring.
My rough idea is to start at Dunns Swamp near Rysltone on western edge of Wollemi NP, climb Mt Corricudgy then continue on the Hunter trail via 3ways to the Putty road and then Howes Valley 4WD trails via Finchley aboriginal site to Bucketty, pick up Old Great North Rd south to Wisemans Ferry then Womerah Range track to Putty and back via 3 ways to Dunns Swamp.
Makes me breathless just writing about it! Probably a couple of thousand metres of ascent!

Manly Dam Open

Hip, hip... Smiling

Have just heard Manly Dam is officially open again.

If anyone rides it in the next few days can someone post a comment on how it's dryed out and coped with the rain?

Update 15 Feb: The word from the... erm... trail is that there's still a lot of standing water and quiet a bit of erosion gone on. If you possibly can stay away and let things dry out this would probably help a lot!

More Menai Madness :D

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Menai (Lucas Heights)

So another roll around Menai is in order? Oh yeah!! Menai is one of Sydney's better tracks for water drainage, so I am sure we will enjoy this one. Plus we may have some more experienced hands for finding our way around.

Park in the normal spot on Old Illawarra Road. For the hard heads amongst us, my advice is to avoid a slab of beer the night before. Sticking out tongue
