Hazelbrook Dirt Jump

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Don't know if anyone on here does dirt jump but I walked passed the Hazelbrook dirt jump site last night and noticed council have been in and cleaned up all the scrub (Poisoned the weeds) around the track so it's all pretty open and looking good at the moment. I am more inclined to let my boys go down and mess arounds now.

I figure it's probably one of the only legal dirt jump sites in the mountains, looks like it's getting a bit more use that It usually does.

Cnr Oaklands Road and Hall Pde Hazelbrook if anyone wants to know its location.

Maybe needs an entry in the trail database??

Camelbak anyone?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey guys,

Just a brief message as to racing gear. I currently have a 3L camelbak which I give a good thumping to, and is perfectly good. It has a good zip up compartment and a food pouch etc, and is great for the full day rides and walks, etc.

Garmin, Strava or KML of Convict 100?

Does anyone have a Convict 100 GPS file they can send me fr the convict 100?

I'm keen to do the 100K course but want to run through it on Google Earth and if I decide to do it also want to be able to load up a course into my Garmin Edge 500 so I know how big the next climb is.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Just in case you didn't already know

All national parks closed to the public across NSW

In light of predicted catastrophic bushfire conditions all of the State's 800 plus national parks and reserves and other public lands will be closed to the public tomorrow.

NPWS Director of Conservation Operations, Bob Conroy said today this means that people are not to visit national parks tomorrow and those currently in parks should make immediate preparations to vacate camping areas for the day (8 January).

Killingsworth MTB Questions

I have never been MTBing at killingsworth but would like to go and try out the trails since HMBA are hosting races there this year. I have a few questions about the track:

- Where does the track start?
- Does the track go in a loop or are there separate tracks (like glenrock)?
- Are the tracks sign posted?
- How technical is the track?
- How many km's is the track about?

I thought Cranks looked quite strong; good brand, good locations, good stores. Looks like they're gone though!

Fox Remote Switch

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at getting this addition put onto my Trance for both F+R shocks, kinda getting sick or bending down all the time to change the CTD settings and would like the option to be able to do this on the fly all the time without waiting for a smooth section of trail.

I have been told from one of the guys at TBE I need to send my rear shock over east to get the knob changed and could take 2 weeks...Surely i can get this done in WA somewhere..

So my question is are there any licensed Fox shock service agents in WA?

Ergonomic bike setup

I'm looking for someone who can set up a MTB for best ergonomic fit as I'm starting to develop a bit of pain here and there. It is worse on my training bike than on the racing bike so I'm hoping I can rid myself of some of the discomfort by getting the bike properly setup.

If any of you have had a good experience please advise where to go to get it properly done.

Thanks

Bargo Colliery

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I went yesterday to spot called Bargo Colliery, which is 20min further south of Mt Annan.

After much research and planning from various logs I could find online, I had finally a course ready and loaded in my Garmin… well unfortunately the first few single trails I went were unused since a while and therefor too much overgrown; so I gave up and went to Mt Annan!

But it looked that someone marked trails there, as per the blue tags attach on the bushes. Unfortunately, they were hard to find and the area is big.

recommendations for tyre to help with climbing

At the moment I'm running Hutchinson Bulldogs 26x2.3 on front and back, but more and more I'm finding the rear slipping or flinging out in faster technical sections when it rides up against a sloped rock...also wouldn't mind a little more grip with handling the occasional rocky uphill climb.

Any recommendations in this area?

A mate at work just bought a new roadie and had the setup done at the shop. They used laser levels etc etc to make sure the saddle position, stem length and all the other malarky were "right". Now this was a bit more than the "knee bent at bottom of pedal stroke" thing but less than a full on bike fit costing a few hungy.

IMBA Manly Dam audit

Hi all

We have been meeting with Warringah Council discussing this proposed audit and it has just been announced that IMBA are the successful applicant to their request for quote.

This is great news to finally get an mtb specialist to take a look at the place to guide future works.

It is likely this may begin this month including some rider consultation.

We will keep you all updated.

Help with replacing chainring

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi guys,

I have a noob question about changing chainrings. Basically, how the heck do I do it! I have a copy of Zinn which hasn't help much. I want to replace the granny chainring. The crankset I have is a Shimano FC-M442-8, Octalink Spline. Do I need to take the whole crank off before I can get to the chainring? Or can I leave the crank arm on and slip the rings over it?

So far all I have managed is to take the bolt off the crank which is pretty pitiful! (see pic). I haven't tried undoing the chainring bolts.

I'm looking to have a go at doing a basic service on my suspension and I have some questions for those of you who have serviced their own Fox forks and air cans. Firstly, I have a 2011 Anthem x3 with the initial forks and air can which as far as I can work out are Fox rp2 air can and Fox F-series 100rl forks.

Suggestions for new rims?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I'm looking to ugrade the rims on my 2008 Trek Fuel EX-7. The bike came stock with Bontrager Select rims which have held up fairly well but they are relatively heavy and I have had to replace a number of spokes on the rear over the years.
I want to get something Tubeless compatible, sturdy enough to suit my occasional dodgy line selection in around WA trails but light enough for racing club rounds and/or enduros.Budget would be limited to under $1K for the wheelset.
Thoughts & suggestions?

Cheers,
Chris.
