New Hornsby Trail - Open Yet?

Anyone have an update on when the new trails out at Hornsby can be ridden? Last update on the Synergy Facebook page was that a couple of trees came down across the track (The Big Dippa) that had to be removed. That was back on December 12.

I know it was due to be opened early to mid December, so it must be close now??

Full suspension 26" XC? Sorry ms we only have 29ers!

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I popped into TBE this evening on the way home from work to enquire about a new sub $2000 full suspension XC bike for a 5'3" girl friend of mine. She currently rides a heavy 5yr old $500 giant but has been riding more seriously recently & wants a 26" FS bike in XS/14", preferably WSD & she feels that any 29er is just too much bike (not proven yet).

The ONLY 26" wheeled mid dual suspension XC bike in stock was an Anthem 3 in medium.
In 29" there was a choice of about 8 different models available from Trek, Giant & Scott in most sizes.

Sign of the times eh?

Is anyone from anywhere near Orange going to this?

I'm keen to go though would like to share travel.

There's a mate from Melbourne going who told me it is a fantastic event.

Seesaw's

Chatting with a fellow Mountain Biker the other day and Seesaws came up in conversation. We both had different view points so I figured I would gather a broader perspective.

Should there be more Seesaws in mtn bike parks/sites to help develop and improve mtn bike skills or are they just fun but we don't really need them and can do with out.

What is your perspective?

Thredbo XC

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

hi all,
heading to thredbo for the first time ever this christmas and just wondering what sort of XC tracks there are on the mountain itself. I've obviously had a look at the trail map and it seems the only ones rideable on an XC bike (100mm front and back) would be the new Kosciuszko Flow Trail and possibly the Merrits Traverse (and that one says guided tours only).
i don't mind the occasional hike a bike section but if it gets any harder than say the 'bunnings' trail here in sydney then i know it's not for me.

What 26" full sus 100mm bikes are left?

I'm not looking to buy, but since I'm fixing my Spesh Stumpjumper FSR 100 up currently I idly searched around and I didn't find a single XT level 26" bike, or race light frame, from any of the big brands.

They all appear to be fully pushing 29ers, even though they may prove to be a fad and/or get superseded by 650b.

I'm only about 170cm tall so I can't imagine a 29er working for me, especially as I like to carve through singletrack best.

Flats

This should be interesting... He he. Discuss.

"Being pro-flats isn’t the same as being anti-clipless and misapplying either pedal system in the name of blind ideology isn’t helping advance our sport as a whole."

Has the Dam smoothed out recently?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All

I had my first ride in a couple of months today which was also the first ride on my new dually (Superlight 26") frame coming from a hardtail. Even though I am out of form the bike was great and smoothed out a lot of things.

Time for some gears I think, but how many?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Well building and riding my SS over the last year was fun but now I'm wanting some gears back on the bike and thinking a rear cassette is the way to go. The old bike once ran a 9 speed cassette. While I do still have the old cassette I want to put some new parts on the bike and change the gear ratio around. Would my old hub be compatible with a 10 speed cassette? or should I stick with a 9 speed?

Off road HANDCYCLING down under!

Hi All!

Has anyone come across anyone using an OFFROAD HANDCYCLE in Perth or Australia in general?

Most of you won't know what an offroad handcycle is or looks like, so check out the picture I have attached. There are different variations but this is the most robust design and price I have found on the market (Poland).

Simply speaking, its a tricycle primarily for those with no, or limited leg function. I broke my back 4 years ago MTB in QLD and will be getting one of these beasts mid 2013 and hitting the tracks again before my 5 year mark.

Mavic spokes?

I've broke a rear spoke on a Mavic Crossmax ST wheel and am finding it acpain to find a replacement.
Can anyone suggest a shop they know in Sydney(North) that deals with Mavic?
Or an even longer shot, has anyone got a spare spoke, maybe from a damaged/old/worn out Crossmax ST?
Thanks in advance,
Gazza

Wentworth Falls to Glenbrook via Woodford

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I wanted to ride down the Queen Elizabeth Drive, Ingar Fire Trail, up the Murphy's Fire Trail and down the Oaks Trail.
Is this feasible? Is crossing between Ingar Fire Trail near the Picnic Ground over to the Murphy's side OK even if I have to hike-a-bike.
Am I going to get lost? It looks reasonably straight forward
Does anyone want to come?

Strava help

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've recently started using Strava and quite like what it has to offer.

The only thing I'm having a problem with is, if I have my ride as private, I cant see where I'm ranked on the segments. Is there a way of changing this?

I don't mind having my mtb rides public as I don't start from the front door of my house. But when I'm doing a road ride, I don't like the thought of advertising to the world that I have a half decent bike in the shed. Surely there's a lot of other people with this opinion or am I just missing a setting in the program?

Brakes

More help . . . . .

I wanted to replace my 'banshee' Avid Elixir 9's with some Shimano XT's but can anyone tell me the difference between [apart from the big difference in price . . . . . . ] and which do you prefer . . . . . . .

Shimano XT M785 Disc Brake

and

Shimano XT Disc Brakes M765

and

Shimano XT M775 Disc Brake

or

Shimano XT M775 Dual Control Disc Brake

Cheers,
