New TWE Wheels

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I recently bought a new set of TWE 29er wheels and after a couple of runs I can say they are great. They have made a considerable improvement to handling and I can really tell the difference between the weight of my old wheels and these new ones, make climbing and lifting the front wheel a lot easier.

I'm glad I bought them.

Hey All,

Well i finally picked up my new ride last week and over the 5 days i have had it i have managed to do two tracks down in Dwellie and the KC loop, I have to say Giant have done a great job on this bike with the change to make it a 29r, even with the following little issues. I haven't had a huge amount of experience or trials on different bikes but for jumping on for a ride it has felt very controllable.

I have a few little queries though...

Which Shimano Rear Derailleur

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey all,

So i've smashed my fourth rear derailleur in just over a year today. I had a cage fail on a xtr shadow (with a carbon cage) then bought the same one again and caught a branch that ripped the cage to pieces.. Switched to an xt and a crash took that one out and bent another cage on an xt today thats beyond repair. So ive been having a look online and it seems shimano have stopped developing 3x9 (please correct me if im wrong but i cant find anything new in 9 speed)

Support your local club 2013

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was at my local club round HMBA - Hunter Mountain Bike Association on the weekend, and the club president was discussing the importance of club particapation to keep the clubs healthy and to provide support for the maintence and creation of local trails.

Given 'legal' trails are few an far between, it is important for us to support the ones we have, which are in most part built and maintained by our local clubs.

Father + Son (or other family combination) Mont 24 team members wanted!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Looking for a father + son pair to make up a social team for the Brady Bunch Sixes classification at next year's Mont 24.

We have 2 dad+son pairs committed but the son from our other pair from last year is unavailable due to having to prioritise studies this year (a little thing called the HSC I believe).

I think we'd still qualify for Brady Bunch even with another two non-related riders at a pinch, but if we could get another family pair (mother/son, dad/daughter, brother/sister, aunt/uncle, grandad, cousins... hubby/wife) that would be awesome.

New forks are sticky

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Fox 34 Talas:

Still waiting for a frame to attach the fork to, but working them they feel very sticky. After a few pumps they get smoother but breaking that initial friction always takes a lot of effort, and after hours of no use the travel is... sticky.

Normal?

Reba Dual Air

Has anyone had trouble setting up Reba dual air forks, I just can't seem to get mine right? The Fox forks on my old bike, 5 years old, seem to give a much better ride than my newer Rebas.

Lefty oil leak

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Having only returned back to riding after a 4 month layoff.
Noticed the lefty air was all but gone and my front brakes non effective.

Then saw the boot cover covered in grease.
Pulled the boot down to see runny residual oil everywhere.
Read it could be the oil cartridge not being sealed properly.
Cleaned it all up and put some air back in but I worry if I continue to ride it, I may end up with a blow out.

it had only been serviced a few months before by a city LBS.

Any opinions on this?

Leaking Rim

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Has anyone ever had a rim leak air from the rim joint? I've just bought a new set of wheels and the rear one is leaking air form the rim joint, admittedly I haven't put any sealant in it yet but my old wheels don't have this problem so I'm thinking maybe something is wrong?

Adding Sealant

Looking for opinions on adding sealant to tyres when going tubless, through the valve or straight into the tyre before you finish putting it on the rim?

Cheers

Cape to Cape on a 1 x 10

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was just wondering if anyone did the race sans front derailleur?? or even a 2x10, and just wondering how you went on the climbs mainly day 1, although there were a few granny gear climbs on day 2 early on.

I am looking at a new bike, but am not really sure if I want to go that way. Not that I want to buy a bike to do 1 race, but I would like to be able to do the cape to cape on it again next year. Bike wise I am thinking a santacruz tall boy or a yetti sb95, so going to move to a 29er.

Four by Three - Gee Atherton - Rampage 2012

Not sure how many of you follow Gee on Twitter, but there have been a few stories knocking about, that Gee suffered a nasty stack, well anywhere here is a short film from Rampage 2012.

http://www.redbull.com/en/bike/episodes/13315788...

Suffice to say, the stack is extreme.
