Cape to cape mtb race, Margaret river region, Oct 2010

has anyone here participated in this race in previous years? I'm somewhat of a newbie and am wanting to hear first hand experience of the level of technical difficulty, the training required, how well the race is organised and any tips and traps on offer. Thanks.

Bell's line to Wolgan Valley

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Morning all,

Planning on a camping and climbing trip to the wolgan valley some time soon. Driving up from Sydney I thought it might be possible to jump out of the car with the bike somewhere near the zig zag railway on the Bell's line and ride down to the Wolgan Valley camp area and meet the guys in the car there.

Two things to clarify...

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was riding at Terrey Hills on the weekend and was pretty much keeping to the left of the fire trail...came round the bend as was nearly taken out by another rider on the same side of the track as me. Is there an unwritten protocol here for us?

Why do I get punctures?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Out at Manly Dam today and got a nasty puncture on the rear tire. Double snake bite... Lucky I had just got a pump and repair kit...also had some co2 canister which made getting up to pressure easier.

Clipless Pedals

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Had a good ride at Faulconbridge Point, Rid out and back twice. Only fell over 4 times. Twice at home in the driveway and twice at the trail. First time I have used clipless pedals, I got the Shimano caged SPD. I guess only repetition will make it second nature to twist rather than lift.

How many times did you fall over when you first tryed clipless? Do you still fall over?

No on-course water at Back Yamma Bigfoot

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I put in an email to the organisers asking where the water stops would be, and got the following response. Haven't done a 50km before so not sure if this is an issue:

I hope this doesn't throw a spanner in the works, but we won't have any
water on the course. The only water stop will be at the event centre for
those doing the 100km. We are trying to minimize costs. However, if we
receive enough requests for additional water stops we'll look into
including another one next year. The course is pretty fast and not too
