Asking a massive favour!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All,
I'm posting here as I'm hoping someone can help me out. I know it's really late notice, and my chances are probably pretty slim, but I might as well ask and see what happens.

I'm hoping I can borrow someone's DH bike for some riding on Saturday. It would need to me a Small sized bike, or smallish Medium would probably also work...

So, here's the longer version of the story...

Abused By a Cycle Courier This Evening

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So yeah was abused by a cycle courier this evening on my ride home from work, I was basically riding over the bridge heading towards North Sydney and when I got on the bridge, I could see a light in the distance so put some effort in to try and catch up, basically I managed to pass and over take this soon to be abusive rider and continued and infact increased my speed on the downhill before getting to the steps.

However Mr Courier person did not like this as, he proceeded to bark at me "Up Up" over take me and then proceed to abuse me for passing him and swearing at me as well.

Niterider Minewt 700 DUAL LED Li-Ion Bike Light

People often ask about the best deal for lights and I've just noticed this on today's CBO mailing:

700lm for $299 (US) looks nice:

Nope, I have no affiliation or anything with this, just like their gear.

Hub grease recommendation?

I repacked my commuter front hub about a month ago and already the grease I used is thinning and getting pushed out of the hub and the new bearings are feeling 'gritty' already Sad

I'm about to put in a CRC order and was wondering if any of you can recommend a good grease for Shimano Hubs?

Thanks
Phil

Mount Hay (Butterfix) ride

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi guys,

Looking for some good rides around Sydney, I've google pretty much a lot and find a nice ride on outdated website called trailfix.com.au.

The ride is called on that website 'Buttefix', but I would call it more Mount Hay.

I've trace the trail on Google Earth, check it here on Google Map: http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&...

Put this on the wishlist for all the Yeti fans out there.

Oxford Falls and Red Hill Narrabeen Lagoon Catchment Area Forum

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Not sure this is big news, but wanted to share these events just to let everyone know that various parties are still (always) working towards better trail access in the area.

Last night (Aug 16, 2010) a number of riders, members of the local bike industry, conservation group members, a representative from the traditional owners, National Parks Staff and Councillors met at Warringah Council for an open forum. The topic of debate was mainly Narrabeen Lagoon catchment which encompasses the riding areas at Red Hill and Oxford Falls (the latter being mostly unauthorised of course).

Another round up

Seems like it's time for another round up, so let's see what everyone has been talking about the last couple weeks.

First up, nix85 asked about bike cleaning and got some answers... and a whole lot of discussion about chain wear. tubbsy asked New rear shock, where can I get one? and got some answers... and a whole lot of discussion about shock issues and the fabled Drop Bear! Budboy73m asked Noobs first MTB choice...any comments? and... wow... actually got answers about a beginners bike Eye-wink

On the race scene a few people are getting a bit concerned about the upcoming Angry Doctor Enduro. There's a check list thread but beware: Supagav warned, Angry Doc is very very hard. Meanwhile the three Mixed Nuts took out Masters Fours at the JetBlack 12 hours at Dargle Farm. Reports from each of them here, here and here - well done guys!

Elsewhere on Global Riders, the BMORC guys looked forward to Clean up the World day 17-19 September - why not follow their lead and arrange some action at your local trail?

Finally, don't forget while planning your weekend riding that ee-lec-shun thing that is coming up - how annoying! Eye-wink flubberghusted suggested there might be A reason to vote and depending on your location maybe there is. If you're still undecided, remember to take a look around at which pollies help the MTB cause before making up your mind.

XTR CRANK FITTING - help

Hi, Fitting XTR cranks followed intructions - just want to double check I did it right.
I have a 68m bottom bracket so I put the two spacers on the drive side and one on the left - with the crank arm fitted there is a gap between crank arm and bearing - doesn't look right i.e. will let dirt in - and what does that adjustment nut do that sits inside the crank arm?
Thanks

3 servicing questions

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm just about to go over my bike before the 'Angry Doctor' in a few weeks.

1 - Do I need any 'special' grease for the front neck bearing after I clean it? Or will just normal bearing grease from SCA do the same thing...

2 - Is it possible to 'service' the derailleur? Not adjusting gears, but actually applying some lubricant to springs etc.

3 - If I have to change brake pads mid-race, do you have to push the pistons back in? And if so, how do you then bleed the air out of your brakes mid-race??? I have always bled my brakes completely when changing pads.

Yeti 575 frame ... Fantastic support

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I have been a yeti 575 owner for about two and a half years; absolutely love the bike. Recently, after a fantastic biking trip in Scotland ,upon return I put the bike in for a badly needed service and received the bad news that the frame was cracked down near the bottom bracket. However, I have just had the most fantastic support from yeti: within 3 days of the bike being picked up by Paul Rowney himself, I was in possession of a brand new 2010 frame fully rigged up ready to ride......how's that for unbelievable service !!!!

Buckled Wheel

After Rob inspired me to do DH with his recent video post, this is what happened to my front wheel going through the 'stairway to heaven' section of Awaba DH. I did a nice flip too!

Also a good review of Stans Tubeless as the tyre held, only lost 5psi after burping and spewing sealant on the ground.

And if anyone is thinking of lacing a wheel themselves it is not as hard as you might think!

RP23 shock upgrade for Scott Spark

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am looking at replacing the rear shock on my 2010 Scott Spark. The bike is fitted with the DT swiss M210 which does an ok job, except for the bob. You sort of jump out of the saddle then go "oh" and sit down again.

So I am looking to upgrade the rear to an RP23. Others have done this for the Spark and given good feedback on forums.

My question is about sag setting. The manual for the Spark says 5 mm. This is less than the recommended sag for the RP23.
