Ku-ring-gai Unstructured Recreation Strategy - please comment!

A heads up to all those wanting to work for better trails in the area: Ku-ring-gai council have their Unstructured Recreation Strategy out for comment. Please take a couple of minutes to have a look and comment (not here - I mean in an email to the council) with your support.

Comments on the document should quote reference number S06520 and be directed to [email protected] or post to: The General Manager, Ku-ring-gai Council, Locked Bag 1056, Pymble NSW 2073

Just a quick, "I enjoy mountain bike riding in the area and fully support and encourage the council in their plans for better facilities for mountain bike riders." is enough Smiling

Submissions close 16 September 2010

More details on the link below, but briefly:

As part of a commitment to transparent and participatory decision making, Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking comment from the community on the draft Unstructured Recreation Strategy.

The strategy was developed to meet the following aims and to:

- Address current and future unstructured recreational activities undertaken within community land, such as walking, cycling and rock climbing, particularly within the Ku-ring-gai Bushland Reserve System;
- facilitate planning by addressing key infrastructure within the council area, which is not addressed by the Open Space Strategy;
- provide clear restrictions, permissible uses and guidelines for these activities, including the responsibilities of different user groups when utilising shared or multiple use facilities;
- provide guidance to bushland management and booking processes for relevant activities.

There are already some good trails in this area and I'd encourage everyone to write in and supporting this strategy to ensure these are not removed and also to encourage council to work with local riders for more of the same Smiling

Hi all,

I have a 2006 Norco six 1 AM bike just sitting around and I am looking at giving it a makeover and but at the same time do not want it to cost me a fortune. I am looking at starting with Crankset, cassette, rear derailleur and possibly the rear shock and wheelsets down the track.
Does anybody have any idea's of what parts/brands I should be looking into?

thanks

T7 Bike Bag back on special

With the recent chat of trips to UnZud just a heads up: I notice T7 have their bike bag back on special:

http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7BCCN9BB/ti...

One of the guys used this bag on last year's trip and seemed to go fine. We (Pratiwi & I) have the Ultrasport Ultra Bike Bags from CRC and the T7 one seems remarkably similar.

Ride - Pennant Hills to Berowra Valley and back

Check out the calendar for details (ref: Pony Club). A training ride prior to the Angry Doctor in a weeks time. The vast majority of this ride is off road and joins several trails together to form something about 50kms long with the least possible road riding.

Hope you can join us!

Cheap Helmet Light

CREE Q5 LED 300 LM 7W Headlamp available on eBay for $16 delivered.

Was able to modify to fit on helmet by removing the strap and attaching with velcro. Makes a great zoom-able spot light. Uses 3 AAA batteries in a separate battery pack. Runs for more than 2 hours on high using rechargeable NiMH batteries.

New see saw

Leaving Menai early morning yesterday there was a man "Mick" and his dog building a new see saw. Should be loads of fun, just hoping the trail bikes don't F it up!

Accident at Manly Dam.

I saw a guy getting stretchered out from the dam today. He was lying there with about ten other people and looked to be in a fair bit of pain. My guess is a shoulder dislocate or broken arm as i didn't see any head blood.
Anyone got info on who it was and his condition?

Warning | Snake season has started early

Just a warning, almost ran over 1.5m Red Belly sunning itself in the Wildflower Garden yesterday. Looks like we're not the only ones enjoying the nice weather this weekend.

I thought we had at least another month or so before dodging any snakes. Looks like my compression bandage is going back into the camelback.

Ride safe

Broke a spoke at Awaba the other day and took it in to a big bike shop on Griffith Rd on Wed, my wheels being Mavic SL's need spokes to be ordered generally, so I expect that but after feeling like I really was interupting the bloke that served me's day, I asked how long I might expect to get it back. Got a dunno mate we'll call you in a couple days and let you know, when I then asked how long after they got the spoke I got dunno mate depends on the workshop.

Canberra

Am thinking of going to Canberra for the October long weekend. I have never riden there before and am extermely keen to have an explore. I am looking for advice from those that have been there and done it and interest from anyone that maybe keen to join us. I would really like to camp - is this an option and if so where abouts - it would be nice to kick back and have a few beers around a fire if possible.
Cheers Steve
