First Aid - just like a spare tube
Riding over the years we have seen and experienced some cuts-n-bruises. You get that - but just like a puncture or broken chain you need to carry spares. I carry a small pack of wound pads, gloves, antiseptic wipes a bandage and mobile phone in case of something nasty happening. This post is to encourage the same.
Don't forget to comment on Warringah Council Draft Recreation Strategy
If you value riding Manly Dam and would like to see more council initiatives for MTB then please don't forget to comment on Warringah Council Draft Recreation Strategy 2009. The document can be downloaded here:
http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/comment/document...
According to Warringah Council Public Comment:
Comments on the Draft Recreation Strategy must be in writing and must be received by 5pm Friday October 23, marked 'Submission – Draft Recreation Strategy' and addressed to the General Manager, Warringah Council, 725 Pittwater Road, Dee Why 2099 or emailed to [email protected]. For more information call Council's Strategy and Policy team on 9942 2716.
Personally, while I commend the council for operating Manly Dam it is clear that a massive user base exists and Manly Dam is under pressure with these rider numbers and the current, rather lacking management policies there. I'm of the opinion the council should properly recognised the importance of Manly Dam to the riding community, give more resources to MTB management at Manly Dam and make finding a second (or maybe more) riding venue in it's jurisdiction a priority.
If you'd like to see more riding and better planning for MTB then simply write into the council (at the address above) and state your case. You don't have to be a Warringah resident to do this - the council are well aware that their facilities are a draw card for riders from many other areas (and indeed they should be proud of this and the economic benefits it brings to their community).
Pain in the Arch
Yes... that's A-R-C-H
For the last couple of days I've had a pain in the arch of my right foot. I'm not sure, but think my right foot is also swollen - that shoe certainly felt tighter when I put it on yesterday.
What's the go? Has anyone heard of this kind of pain being caused by riding? I haven't been doing much else

Urban Polaris or Metro
Has anyone taken part in this event? https://www.urbanpolaris09.org.au/
Looks like it might be fun, relaxing and ends in less then 24hrs.
Not sure if a Road Bike would be suitable, as the site is lacking detailed information? Plenty of MTbikes in the pictures, but plenty of Tarmac in the foreground! confused...I'll email the event co-ordinators!
Highland Fling ticket no longer wanted
Got one already. Thanks all..
Yes, fresh from all of 3 laps at the Scott 24 hr and with all of about 6 hours riding since I got my bikes back I'm gagging to get out there.
If anyone knows of a spare Fling ticket, think of me (110 preferred as I treat pain like I treat my women - take 20 pills and hope it doesn't start talking until I'm asleep)
Ta.

Appin after work
Hey all,
I work in Liverpool and have been thinking about the opportunity to bring the bike and hit up Appin after work for a lap or two.
Wondering if any locals would be interested in starting a regular after work weekday ride?
Race Across The Sky - HD Trailer
Looks like it could be a nice mix of the battle between superstars mixed with a few stories from the masses:

Awaba Pump Track
Work has begun on the new Awaba Pump Track. The following pictures are from the start of the first section of the track. Once these have packed in nice and hard, additional more technical lines will be added.
mt buller
Is Mt Buller worthwhile . They seem to be pushing mountain biking but the rides given on their web site are very short . For a full day driving each way one would want 2 or three days of good rides. It would appear to be more XC orientated than Thredbo . Has anybody been recently
Oaks-Ingar-Andersons-Oaks
My friend told me that i need to open a can of "harden the f... up" so this was number two in my new 6hour Sundays. Total time 6 hrs 40 minutes Glenbrook to Glenbrook. I noticed there has been some previous chat on NoBMoB about this ride.
Awesome training and my nutrition, hydration and hill climbing technique are improving drastically.
140 bpm average (75%) and 160 bpm peak (86%).
4948 kcalories. total distance is 106.40 kms @ 16km/h average.
Bring on the Fling!
End of Scott A line crash
First time I came to this I was on the Rush and didn't realise it was a huck. I was going too slow and had to roll it. Luckily getting well off the back without incident! Last time round was on the Yeti and got some serious air!
MTB-OZ reports the guy in this video broke his nose - ouch! Get well soon mate!

Manly Dam OPEN
Bumped into the MD ranger Warren this morning. He was doing some weekend work to clear a fallen tree on the MTB track near the bowling club. He said that the dam MTB track is OPEN, despite some "closed" signs. Apparently he couldn't unlock/remove the signs due to the weekend office closure. Track condition is OK (probably the driest of the NB area, due to limited rainfall over MD compared to say Terrey Hills, where it was bucketing). Few remaining puddles, but no biggies. Thx Warren!
