Nalini Bibs

Just a heads up, Nalini bibs on special again at T7:

http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/NLB3SW9TB

Dam the Columbia design changing from black to white (I already have pair of them in black).

But still, I find these so comfy that grabbed a couple pairs: Caisse d’Epargne (closest to black) and Liquigas (well - they do have a Crack'n'fail logo on 'em) Eye-wink

Yes, yes... I know, but wear 'em under your baggies. Or for <cough>road riding</cough>.

USA order - postage saver

I''ve got some Twenty20 cams coming, through BongoUS.com

most places get you free shipping into USA, so
if you get it shipped to CT USA quick I can have it in my box to save you postage.

but, I sort of want the cams quick, so be quick.

someone mentioned import duties on large items (or perhaps collections)
think about that as my order is already 2 x $500
and not sure about being to pay for ppls duties, if any.

anyway, it's a thought.
pickup would be in Carlingford NSW (Parramatta)

HSMBA Letter to Hornsby Council

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey all,

i recently received an e-mail from HSMBA suggesting that we keep writing to Hornsby council to show our support for MTB trails. If you're on their mailing list you will get the e-mail at some point. They are staggering the e-mails so that Hornsby council doesn't just get one big influx of e-mails, but rather gets a steady stream of e-mails spread out over time. It's simple to do, if you're too lazy to think of something to write, i have attached below what i wrote, just copy/paste and change any relevant bits.

Cheers.

Dear Hornsby Councillors,

Lost car keys at Manly Dam

UPDATE 22/09 - Went back today, which is the earliest I could get there and they are now gone.......Found a branch in the midle of the trail before the rise, as described in some of the posts below, but now no longer there. If anyone has picked up for safekeping, please get in touch.

thanks
John

I was riding Manly Dam with a mate this morning around 7.30 and on returning to the car in the lower car park I discovered every mountain biker's worst nightmare - my car keys stashed so safely under my seat had vanished.

Maxxis tyre problems - bulges

This 'little' bulge appeared 4 days after the Angry Doctor, while the bike was simply on its rack.
Shocked

Seems to be quite a few Maxxis tires (not sure if it's isolated to Crossmarks - which are my favourite tires) with these little bulges appearing (mid ride), therefore rendering the tyre useless... Sad

Not sure exactly how many ppl had had the same problem, but would be keen to write to Maxxis and ask "What's up?"...

Tennis anyone? Tennis anyone (side view)

CenterLock Disc Rotors with Avid Brakes and installation...

After a bit more research.. a few more questions:

Has anybody experience with centerlock disc rotors with Avid brakes? Shimano obviously says use centerlock rotors only with Shimano brakes...
What rotor brand did you use?

I could find Avid rotors on CRC in 185 (Shimano apparently only has 180...).
The only 203 I could find was from Shimano.

Do I need a special tool to install the centerlock rotors? Got the impression but couldn't find any conclusive information.
What is it called? Any shop recommendation?

Thanks
Sascha

Fulcrum Spokes

Hello,

I'm considering buying some Fulcrum Red Metal Zero wheels (CRC has some good deals...). I tried finding a website where I could buy spare spokes, but that seems to be rather difficult. CRC has a few sets but not for the Zeros.

Does anybody have any experience with Fulcrum spares and where I could get them either on the web or in Sydney?

Any hint appreciated. Thanks
Sascha

Warringah Council Unstructured Recreational Plan

According to the agenda on their website Warringah Council are to discuss the Exhibition of the Recreation Strategy next Tuesday night (Sep 22). Agenda is here:

http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/council_then/War...

Draft strategy can be downloaded here:

http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/council_then/doc...

The strategy recommends:

Undertake a mountain bike and off road cycling research paper in an attempt to address the increased use of natural areas for cycling and to investigate the provision of at least one other permissible riding area in Warringah.

I hope we can view this as a small step towards a second authorised riding area.

It is slightly disappointed that the report doesn't make recommendations for better management of the cycling trails at Manly Dam but at least MTB is recognised as a significant recreational pursuit.

Yellowmundee Closed?

Came across the page below on the NPWS website stating that:

"Yellomundee Regional Park (except for Yellow Rock Lookout) will be CLOSED until further notice from Saturday 19th September 2009."

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/...

Has anyone heard they were closing the trail out there?

Bar Mounted Lights

Hi All

I am loking for opinions on the best BUDGET option for a Bar mounted light to be used at The Scott 24 at Stromlo . I have a great helmet light , Cygolite Triden X which is great for sniggle but not quite good enough for fast fireroad ....or dodgey eyes . I am not looking to flash fry native animals , would be a great bonus but not necessary, but be able to do double night laps without going cross eyed . Battery life , cost , brightness , charge time and availability are all improtant ,1700 lumens aint ...

Thanks

Northern Beaches HR Burns update - Track & Road Closures

News just in from the local rangers:

This weekend, Sept 19th-20th, a major HR burn in will be undertaken in the Smith Creek – Cottage Point area of the Northern Beaches Area.

Therefore the following road / track closures will be in place:

* General San Martin Drive from the intersection with McCarrs Creek Road to Akuna Bay will be closed on Saturday (Cottage Point residents or persons attending specified events at Cottage Point will be allowed access under escort).

* Smiths Creek Track, Smiths Creek East Track, the track from the Perimeter Track near Nerang Av to Smith Creek, Centre Trail & Hungary Trail will be closed to all persons from Saturday & until further notice after the burn to ensure they are safe from falling timber.

Anyone ignoring the track closed signs that will be in place will be risking up to a $500 fine & potentially their lives due to the high danger of falling trees.

Anyone found on those tracks or roads while closed on Saturday will also be putting fire fighting personnel at risk as they will have to be removed before the HR can continue.

We will have helicopter surveillance of the whole area during the burn on Saturday.

Red Hill Burn Off

I saw the firies and residents this morning... they said they are back burning Red Hill on Saturday morning and also parts of Oxford Falls - I am fairly sure the Oxford Falls part won't affect mtb but the Red Hill parts will...

Hi there. Just wondering if someone might be able to explain why I'm getting "Access denied... Sorry, but the page you are trying to view is not publicly available." messages when going to certain threads, most notably from the "Latest comments" section on the main page. An example is this link here... I can't get to it : http://nobmob.com/node/10612#comment-37160 This is not the first time this has happened and yes, i am making sure I'm logged in first.... so I don't know what's happening.

Getting into endurance races ...

Hi all, quite new to the whole mtb thing this time around although I used to ride a bit many years ago.

So anyway I'm getting right into it again and reading about these endurance events I am really interested in maybe giving one or two a bash. Would love to hear any thoughts, experiences etc around preparation, training, the level of skill and fitness required, and smart ways to work up to these events.

Cheers,
Pete

MTBing in Tasmania,Show your support

Please everyone send a favourable reply to this draft, I'm sure many of us would be more inclined to visit Tasmania if this is implemented.

Draft Tasmanian Mountain Bike Plan Released for Public Comment

Sport and Recreation Tasmania has released a Draft Tasmanian Mountain Bike Plan for public comment. Individuals and organisations wishing to provide comment on the Draft Mountain Bike Plan have until 11 October 2009 to provide their submissions.

The Project

Sport and Recreation Tasmania recently engaged consultants from Inspiring Place to develop a state mountain bike plan for Tasmania. The plan, which is expected to be released in August 2009, will provide a framework for the coordinated development and marketing of mountain bike opportunities in Tasmania.

We need to get these people to do a proposal for NSW.

Also much of the draft can be reused in future advocacy work, so maybe even save the pdf

http://www.development.tas.gov.au/sportrec/curre...

Individuals wishing to provide comment on the Draft Mountain Bike Plan should e-mail the consultants preparing the plan at [email protected] or write to Tasmanian Mountain Bike Plan, Inspiring Place, 208b Collins St, Hobart 7000, by 11 October 2009.
