Epic ride planning: ZigZag + Wolgan Valley + Glow-worm Tunnel - any tips?
Hi
I'm thinking of organising a ride with some mates in the Blue Mountains and came across the page below whilst doing some research.
http://www.railtrails.org.au/states/trails.php3?...
Seems to me that you could string together a pretty good loop starting somewhere near Zig-Zag railway, down Blackfelllows Hand Fire trail to Wolgan Valley, then back up the old rail trail through the Glow-Worm tunnel to finish the loop. Probably 80Km all up.
Has anyone tried this before? Any tips or traps I should be aware of? Clockwise or anti-clockwise for the loop?
cheers

Help with rear derailleur sizes
Hi all. Was hoping someone mechanically experienced might be able to help me with my move to a shorter cage rear derailleur and quieter drive train. I've got a 2008 Giant Reign 1 which i've modified to have just a single 32T chain ring up front and still the stock standard 11-34T cassette at rear. The stock standard long cage SRAM x9 rear mech is still there but I'm looking to buy a small or medium cage SRAM x9 for a tighter ride. Can i go to small? Thanks for any help. Happy trails.
red hill
hey, just wondering what happened to red hill from the trail status on the left?
its gone today?
Saturday morning 12th Sep - any takers?
I've finally managed to get another MTB after having a roadie for a few years and it's about time to start exploring the Sydney tracks.
I'll be a bit rusty, and I'm not 19 anymore, so you should get a load of free entertainment thrown in with the ride.
A bit of XC somewhere remotely close to Ryde would be good. Then again I guess "close" probably ranges from Hornsby to Manly to Menai, eh.
I know Cascades, etc is closed this weekend, so where else is good for a middle-aged fart getting back on the saddle?
Classifieds Section - Tickets Wanted/For Sale
There has been heaps of forum posts for tickets in the angry doctor and highland fling wanted and for sale lately. I was thinking the classified section would be a better place for these rather than the forums. Perhaps people could start putting them there in future.
What do you think?
Nigel

New mountain bike tracks in the Blue Mountains
Thanks to some tireless campaigning by a few fellow riders it seems that SCA have taken a small step in the right direction and granted access to some land around Woodford Dam.
I'm not sure about any specific trails in this area, but as noted, it is a step in the right direction. In the words of Oliver Twist, "Please sir, may we have some more?". There would be some real epic rides available in the Blue Mountains if other SCA lands are opened up.
Anyhow, press release here and quoted below:
FOR SALE: Irate Intern 50km Ticket - CHEAP!
I have an Irate Intern 50km ticket for sale. My mates all piked last minute and left me with no way to get there and no accommodation, so unfortunately, i can't go either. I'm happy to sell the ticket for $50, but remember that there will be a $30 transfer charge at the event registration.
I can probably get the TWO extra tickets from my mates (the one's who piked!!!) at a similar price.
First In, First Served!!
NOTE (from Angry Doctor Website)
Angry Doctor 50 KM Entry For Sale
Unfortunately won't be able to make it to Mogo this year. Disappointing given that this is the race not to miss. Anyway, enough self pity. My entry is for sale at the purchase price ($80). Note, you will have to fork over another $30 when you go register on race weekend. First person to post a message on this forum gets it. Cheers, Mick

accommodation wanted for angry doctor.
after being in canberra for the weekend and seeing how cold it can be at night, martine and i have decided to try and get a room for the night prior to the doctor rather than camping. i know the south coast wont be as cold as our capital but we thought we'd put the word out just in case someone drops out and has already paid for accomodation.
if anyone IS camping, let us know where as i havn't got a clue where the closest place is to the start of the race.
cheers,
gazza
Maxxis Ignitor bulges
Has anyone else had this problem? This is the second time I've noticed an Ignitor 2.35 with multiple bulges along one side.
The tread is only halfway through. I'm not happy about it and they certainly arent super cheap. ideas anyone?
Slow Sunday Laps?
Anyone feel like a few (3?) laps of the Dam tomorrow? Not too early... perhaps 10:30?
I won't be looking to break any records, just a nice steady pace.

6 days with a leaky brake
First post...yay me
Being relatively new to MTB, and the world of hyrdaulic disc brakes in particular, I need a word of advice.
Riding to work southwards down the Spit during the week my front brake decided it would be of no apparent use. The back works fine. I tested it once I rolled over the bridge, finding that it did very little to stop me, and barely even slowed me down. They're Tektro Auriga Comp hydros on a Mongoose Amasa Comp.

The glow in the dark ride
Hiya,
i'm coming up to Sydney to do some work at ANSTO from 19-27th September and would like to get out to check out the local trails while i'm there. First suggestion would be to meet up on Wednesday night - but i'm reasonably flexible to get out with some locals rather than have to ride on my own.
hope to see some of you out on the trails
Martin
The Pinch ride
Now that spring has hit, time to start planning some rides down at the alps.
Browsing the site I see there are some great photo's of the "The Pinch ride" down Jindy/Thredo.
Does anyone have a google maps file and/or gps file for this ride ?
If so could we get it posted on the site for reference ?
